Class-Race Restrictions?

TechpriestTechpriest Member Posts: 104

Sorry, I know this must have been answered a hundred times, but I have not found it yet.

I am an old EQ1 Junkie.  I just spent several hours trying out the EQII demo and am very impressed so far.

Having EQ rules stuck in my head I can not come to grips with the fact that it appears there are no class-race restrictions that I can find.  I see that evil can't be a paladin and good can't be a shadow-knight etc, but can I really make a Halfling Monk, Troll Assassin or Erudite Berserker?  While I know stat-wise they may not be the best options but some of the combos do sound fun.

If you will allow me a second question, is there a Bazaar in EQII?

Thanks!

You got it right... there are no restrictions on races playing classes. Sometimes you have to "betray" your starting city to do it. Like if you want to be a Dark Elf Paladin you will start as a DE in FP then at level 15(ish) "betray" Freeport via a series of quests and wind up in Qeynos ready to follow the path of the Pally. I am a living example as the the first Ratonga on Faydark to beomce a Ranger image

As for the Stat question. The Devs maintain it all evens out in the end and depending on what "traits" you choose you can even out do the more suited classes in primary stats if they made other choices in their journey. Again with me as an example I have put everything into my AGI, traits, armour, weapons, jewlery the lot. I have yet to see a Woodelf my level with higher AGI than me yet woodys are the prefred characters for rangers.

Yes there is a "bazzar" but it is a little bizzare. You need to stand in your room with your gear for sale on you, then go into "merchant mode" and your stuff gets displayed on a "broker" NPC  for others to buy. As long as you are online you can sell. image

Yes I know..... we all think they were on acid when they designed that too....image

Thanks for the help!  I am going to get EQII now.

I can sort of see the idea behind the "home business" approach.  While I loved the bazaar I understand many people with weaker PCs had a terrible time there.  With the bazaar approach though I knew that if I needed somebody to craft something all I had to do was gather the ingredients, enter the bazaar and yell, "Looking to hire a smith to..." and somebody would help out.

If your not going to be forced to sit with others and a third party is handling the deal, I agree with all previous in asking, why do you have to be in game at all?  Let the NPC take a cut from the selling price, 5% or something.  He could be named "Ebaylius"!

When I'm looking for someone to make something, there is a chat channel called crafting.  There are also societies where you do all your crafting. Look for one with a lot of people (if you go to your EQ2 button, then click on societies it will list all the societies and how many people and the rank.

Also I probably should have mentioned. If you get in a guild you can buy crafting tables for your room so you can craft while you sell. There are some restrictions that I wont go into about how this works but its another small balance to the silliness of having to be online to sell things image

Imho we REALLY need vendor NPC's that we can place in our rooms like in UO.image
