In how many zones is Kryta divided up in GW2? I dont mean cities btw. In the videos so far I mainly saw loading screens for personal story instances and entering/leaving city.
You can walk across the whole world and never hit one, so long as you dont fast travel or enter a city/dungeon.
Which is why this whole thread is just silly nonsense.

They had instanced PvP in Guildwars so I have problems understanding why they would bother to design the game around PvP when it is instanced. That is only necessary where the two mix. Isn't 2 similar or am I wrong.
This is what I've been trying to explain to adal, even if there 500 players in wvw and it lags, it won't affect players out in the world. But he just call me wow fanboys >.<
but I agree with him sitting at orgi waiting for battleground to start is boring, unlike wvw which you can join and leave anytime.
so ultimately pvp is not the reason for zone world.
Have you guys been drinking...lol
That is a flat out lie, you never said anything about lag. And again, its obvious you have read nothing about GW2 or seen the videos, which proves your just here to flame.
The PvE and PvP have been seperated, into 2 zones, each with multiple areas. It is not the instanced PvP like GW1. If you cannot understand that, then you have no clue what instance is or the difference between a zone and instance.

Is this true ?
If you can travel across the world without any loading screen (as long as you don't enter cities/dungeons or use a portal), then that's great ! /thread
You can demand a lot but you're not a realist if you demand the same. Are you honestly expecting the same performance from a car that costs $1000 and a car that costs $100.000?
The difference between B2P and P2P during launch is zero. You pay for both a box price. The similarities end there, simply because the subscription fees for a year's worth of gaming add up to three times the box price minimum. So by the end of the first year, one game still cost you $50 while the other cost you $200.
Do you still have the same expectations from both those products?
I blame GW2 fans for this because Anet never made any claims that they are going to kill P2P market and make B2P a new standard. I think people are expecting so much because of the hype surrounding it and assumption that B2P model gives same content and quality as P2P..which is yet to be proven and seen.
I gave up on AoC because the developer decided to develop a new game engine for a year while offering no new content. They were happly taking that subscription and providing nothing to the gamer. Just because it cost more doesn't mean your getting that value. In fact they seemed lazy to me, the subscriptions had to be paid to play the game. I understand it was cost effective then to develop the TSW engine while taking money from the AoC customers and promising them that everything will be better in a year.
Even take your car example just because you paid 100,000 for that car doesn't mean the maintance cost and reliablity are going to 100x better then the 1000 car. In fact there are many examples where the maintance cost of the 100,000 is far worse.
A track record and experience was set with GW1. For me the maintance and on going development of GW1 was superior to any MMO I've played. The question is will the MMO GW2, which is more ambitious then GW1, be able to build off this? At this point it's anyones guess but I'm not betting against.

Well no one had the time to walk to Lion's arch since it was walled off, but a few beta players who went exploring went for long walks and just kept going. The point is, no one knows how zoned/instanced it is yet. PvP is, but that's obvious since its a seperate game.

People just make up their own stuff to convince those who have doubts about the game. Nothing new here.
ANet are without a doubt skilled coders & designers...
I really have no idea why people keep saying this. You did play GW1 right? I would say they are skilled game theorists but definately NOT skilled coders. I honestly believe the GW1 interface was technicallly one of the poorest interfaces of that time. If there is one thing that keeps me skeptical of this game it is I have very little confidence in their coding skill. I actually think they will get the theory down right, with good balance and gameplay features. But I fear their lack of coding skill will be the potential dissapointing aspect of this. This will manifest itself as clunky performance, graphical anomalies, poor control scheme, subpar graphics, etc. The youtube clips certainly don't give me much more confidence either to be honest. The features of the game sound pretty fun though...

GW is nothing but little instanced zones with static mobs and restricive pathways you are forced to take.
The "ONLY" reason the crowed is excited about this game is the fact that its FREE to play. This is the spoiled entitlement generation that feels that like owes them something, just because they were indulged by their parents, and given a free ride through the public school system.
Have fun playing your "the world owes me" game.
Wait, what?
I invested over 190 euros in GW1. How's that free?
Needless to say I got more than 4500 hours of fun out of it, but since when is 50 euro/60dollars per copy cheap.

Also, the interface of GW1 could be repositioned and resized as much as you wanted. That's pretty skillful coding. Of course, they don't tolerate third party ui addons, but any game who needs ui addons is pretty badly designed anyway.

You do realize the interface has a lot more to do w/ their UI designers than w/ their coders, right? Their coding has more to do with how smooth the game runs, how many bugs there are at release, and how fast both of these issues get addressed. I dunno how your GW1 experience was, but in mine I can honestly say they were pretty on point about all 3 of those things.

LOL. One of the best UI's??? So I guess having the camera peg down so you couldn't see into the distance whenever you were on even a slight incline was great coding? Having invisible walls everywhere, even to the point where you couldn't drop down a 3 foot cliff or hop a small fence was great coding? Not even having the ability to jump at all was great coding (seriously might be the only avatar basd game post 1990 that didn't even support jumping)? And even the visuals, although ok in detail, were completely static and were technically dated regarding environmental effects. I really don't want to rehash this argument though as GW2 is a whole new game. I just am skeptical because I thought their coding skills were very poor. I give them credit as game theorists though so hopefully for GW2 they expanded their team with some more technical talent...

I think it has got something with the engine that is being used, it is after all a heavily modified version of the GW1 engine. What also matters is the fact that TERA's world is rather static, compared to the world of GW2 (dynamic events and such) and allows less interactions between characters and the environment.
In how many zones is Kryta divided up in GW2? I dont mean cities btw. In the videos so far I mainly saw loading screens for personal story instances and entering/leaving city.

from GW2 wiki itself:
Are there going to be loading screens? Is it a completely seamless world?
There are loading screens when you travel between waypoints within a zone (this is because the player's computer has to load the environment at once, rather than gradually as the player's character approaches the destination). Between some zones there are portals which will trigger a loading screen like those in Guild Wars. Aside from access to cities and outposts, portals are rare.

Because of PvP lag. Anet wants to put 100's of players into one zone, with sieges and multiple points of control. That zone has 4 maps, so by instancing them you can get smoother game play.
If you kept the zone open, there would be some 300+ players along with dozens of siege weapons and several towers and other control points.
Does TERA have this? NO, thats why they can be a bit more "seamless".
Remind me why it matters... would travelling to a different continent in WOW in 2 hours with no loading screens be better than the 30 second trip with loading screens somehow?
What is it about no loading screens that makes the same boring old, grindy gameplay better than superior features with loading screens?
Tera looks absolutely gorgeous but I see all the signs of a standard run of the mill MMO. GW2 on the other hand may have loading screens but I'm about 20 times more interested in it because they are doing the things that actually matter in new and inovative ways.
GW2 also doesn't have lightsabres, does that mean that SWTOR is better? You guys are confusing me

I don't see how that :
a) Breaks Immersion
b) Presents a system issue other than allowing older systems with slower/less memory the ability to play.
c) Can be considered deal breaker on game purchase imo
The game still looks immersive, innovative and fun regardless of how many seams it has.
Then again, it's all about the user's expectations....
