My biggest concern will be the level of difficulty. I just pray that they do not dumb this down just for the sake of sales. It needs to be challenging but not impossible because easy = boring.
Judging by how Story Mode (read: E-Z mode) of the first dungeon that players will experience, was described widely as "brutal", I don't think ArenaNet is planning on giving us too many cakewalks.
Real life? Wtf? Are you trying to tell me that if I go outside right now, I wont see any houses unless someone invites me to their house, then suddenly it'll appear?
Seriously, have you just not played any MMOs? And I didn't say allow houses to be placed anywhere, I only said for them to be in public space. DAoC, LotRO, Vanguard, Darkfall have all had houses in a public space. Some houses even leave their doors open for people to go in and admire their trophies. Can't do that if your house only exists for you and 1 or 2 friends.
Between this, the rampant instancing, the instant teleportation, and the lack of death penalty... I'm starting to lose sight of whats so appealing about this game.
You can choose to take it out of context is you wish. it makes perfect sense, in context of your story to invite other heroes to see your place.
All the games you mentioned are quest based games. in context of GW2 this is not possible because events are running on all over.
It sounds like this game is not for you. I hope you find something that you like in this life. I know GW2 will be perfect for me, so I am really happy. I'm glad it's not like those games you mentioned!
3. No housing feature likely to be at release. Yes there are guild halls, but no personal housing. I hope they add it as a later content update. I'm hoping for something along the lines of EQ2's housing system, with more social rewards to get you to want to visit other's housing.
Your home instance is your house!
Ugh... MORE instancing? Why can't we have houses out in the world for people to visit? This game is shaping up to be too close to WoW and its clones for comfort...
uhm, instancing is how they tell the story. WoW does not even have this feature, so there is nothing "too close to WoW".
I said WoW and its clones. I prefer houses to actually be a public space. Whats the point of decorating a house only you and 1 or 2 real life friends can ever see? There is none.
Everyone can see it. You just have to invite them. Much like you would in real life.
I havent played a MMO that had public housing since SWG.Obviously, with the dynamic events and everything they got going in this game, that would not be possible.

You need to learn what instancing means, theres basically no instancing appart from the personal story. Your confusing instancing with zoning. About the rest of your complaints, they are entirely subjective. I personally love the teleportation and the death penalty that is used here or w/e you would call it.
The healing ability you and have can that spell be used on someone else ?
For instance its a 2v2 fight and i use my healing cooldown on my friend ? or is it a self heal only ?
Havent heared anything about it
Agree with many points already made here.
I played Warhammer to and i understand Walls and Doors are strong to buy keeps time to reinforce them in time before a whole zone is taken.
I think its a good idea, but keep in mind that in the press beta there werent a whole lot of players
On live servers there will be alot of players and then it will be a totaly diffrent story.
Healing others is a choice of utility. For example, Rangers have a self heal (around 7-8k at lvl 80) but if he puts in healing spring, its a heal over time AoE (2-4k) over 10 seconds. You can't have both, you have to choose before you start combat.

I love sandbox games. My first MMORPG was UO, and I've been looking for that experience ever since in vain. That said, I like other kinds of games as well, like Everquest or WoW.
You basically have to realize that GW2 is not trying to provide a player-driven sandbox experience and will probably never pursue the features that are are asking for. You can either enjoy GW2 for what it is, or choose not to play it, it's your call.
You may respond saying that you weren't asking for GW2 to be a sandbox game, you were just asking for it to have public housing. But well implemented public housing is probably the defining feature of a sandbox fantasy MMORPG. It's a MAJOR feature and requires a lot of work.
Either the game world has to be designed so that it's big enough for every player to have a house without crowding it. OR you have to provide HUGE player housing areas that are separate from the main world. It's a big undertaking, and a lot to ask for. I would love if ANet implemented public housing areas in the future, but I really don't think that's the direction they will take GW2.
I agree with pretty much all of the OPs points. I'll add a few myself:
1. The death penalty. It's the standard durability hit you see in most games with a few differences. I really just feel it's a flat out unnecessary timesink and there are better ways to make death hurt (put the waypoints further away from combat areas for example). Plus you'll get instances where people forgot to repair and you have to wait for them to go repair due to their stupidity.
2. Crafting / harvesting doesn't seem to be innovative or anything. I know there is little information about it right now, but from what I can tell it's just the standard we see in most MMOs. This is one area they certainly could have improved on.
3. No housing feature likely to be at release. Yes there are guild halls, but no personal housing. I hope they add it as a later content update. I'm hoping for something along the lines of EQ2's housing system, with more social rewards to get you to want to visit other's housing.
4. I want to see more organized PvP modes than Conquest. It's a good start, but it would be nice to see some CTF or TDM style maps. It's actually a good thing that they are focusing on a single mode for now, but I hope in the future they implement some new modes.
War should not be about capturing flags, or cute little instances with balanced teams. That's whats made PvP so horrible in most WoW clones.
And there really needs to be an ACTUAL death penalty, not a gear hit.
My biggest issue is that there's too much instancing and you can instantly teleport anywhere, so the world is just trivial.
War should be about standing on specific points on the map? Not sure what you are getting at. More options are a bad thing now?
3. No housing feature likely to be at release. Yes there are guild halls, but no personal housing. I hope they add it as a later content update. I'm hoping for something along the lines of EQ2's housing system, with more social rewards to get you to want to visit other's housing.
Your home instance is your house!
It's not the same though. I'm looking for something with a lot of customization even though it's instanced. If they expand on the home instance feature then that could very well replace my want for housing, but for now it doesn't seem to have the full fledged features of housing in say EQ2 or Vanguard.

So basically, if you're vegetarian, don't expect the menu to cater to your tastes when you go to a steakhouse for dinner.
Never played any of those games. Wouldn't that be the same as Realm Rank from DAoC or WAR though? It sounds similar.
Hmm you can say that those are also AA but in Rift, Aoc and EQ2 you get extra set of skills to make your character more powerful. It just lets you progress your character further than artificial level caps.
Wouldn't that be the same as Realm Rank from DAoC or WAR though? It sounds similar.
Rofl Blind leading the blind , :P , j/king.
Yes rifts AA is pretty much a minor mimic of daoc's , which today still have the largest impact on end game strength in skills that i have seen in any mmo.
We don't know about this for GW2, We do know that end game advancment via equipment pretty much doesn't exist (a big flaw if you ask me). But w/e.

1) No character progression (AA system) at max level...
2) a weak crafting system
To be fair, we don't know enough about crafting to call it weak. We haven't seen anything that says "we've done for crafting what we did for everything else that was stale about MMOs", but the lack of obvious flash doesn't tell us anything about how well it will fulfill the role of crafting in an MMO.
3)So far it seems in DE's people are playing next to eachother instead of together..
What are you expecting of players fresh to the game? At least they are playing cooperatively, rather than running the otherway when other players show up to "steal their kills and mess with their XP rates and quest objectives".
Besides, who says that players have to strategize together and be firing off cross profession combos to be playing together and supporting each other? The game encourages soft cooperation along side formal grouping.
4) No information yet about how the game will look with fully scaled down graphics
Some of the videos from the press event had the graphics truned way down, due to performance issues with FRAPS running and hardware limitations. One thing that was obvious to me right away is that with the lower quality settings, the lower res "painterly effect" seems to render much closer to the character. It still looks good, but not sharp. I'll definitely strive to play near max settings on my desktop, but I think the lower settings will be fine on my laptop.
5)Not enough trees and hills in the WvWvW areas that could give players with extended terain knowledges an advantage.
I'm always for more trees and thicker forests in MMOs, but I appreciate that in WvWvW, performance issues in a massive zone designed to hold hundreds of players are the top consideration.I'm sure their will be terrain features that will map map knowledge very useful.
6)Only one type of structured PvP
I hope we will get more types in the expansions, but I understand why they chose to go the route they did. I'm more concerned aboutthere being a lot of varied maps, rather than the lack of game types. TOR's PVP featured three completely different PVP game modes, but that variety didn't mape up for the fact that there were only three maps total in the rotation.
I'm hoping for at least six at launch, enough for variety, but not too many to have to learn at once. I'm hoping they will then rotate in and out additional maps to keep things fresh.
7)Its not finished yet
Yeah and Arenanet don't provide a time machine so we can skip ahead to the release date.
Yeah, I would also like some other SPvP modes. When you say AA system progression, what do you mean exactly? Like realm rank?
Sprinting would have to have a cost otherwise players would just sprint all the time. There are no mana / energy bars. They could implement it as a bought ability and give it a long cooldown but I expect that this will be a cash shop item such as a totem or such.

Indeed I will say I wasn't asking GW2 to be a sandbox game. Housing is NOT the primary feature of a sandbox game, I'd say. Especially not the kind of housing I suggested. I listed about 4 games when I talked about housing, and only ONE of them was a sandbox game. Having a housing zone is not even remotely difficult. It can even be in its own zone like it was in DAoC. The point is being able to see other people's homes. Whats the point of having a trophy room no one can see, pretty much ever?
What I'm asking for isn't "sandbox" design. The GW2 defense foce needs to stop using that as a scape goat. When someone suggests a good feature they say "oh well GW2 isn't sandbox, its totally different". That doesn't work, that's not a good excuse. These features exist outside of sandbox or themepark classification (and lets call themepark what it is, WoW clone). These are good ideas. Full stop.
And to Kalfer..
"All the games you mentioned are quest based games. in context of GW2 this is not possible because events are running on all over."

A big flaw? How? That's probably one of the smartest things they've done. Raids shouldn't be hard because you don't have the proper gear. They should be hard because they're actually well designed challenges. Raids and content shouldn't be gated off forcing me to grind in dungeons I don't like just to do what I want.
In DAoC I could do any raid I wanted at any time if I had enough people with enough skill. Player freedom is what we need.
Sprinting would have to have a cost otherwise players would just sprint all the time. There are no mana / energy bars. They could implement it as a bought ability and give it a long cooldown but I expect that this will be a cash shop item such as a totem or such.
Actually there is the dodge energy bar.... Which is, atm, used only for dodging. It would be a perfect resource pool to draw on when sprinting.

I really hate the constant jumping and grunting for the skill point quests, I wish they would have left the arcade out of an MMORPG.
