The so called "mmo" game which is SW TOR is a poor production like everything else LA released since 1990 - BioWhore was silly enough to follow that trend and became a laughing stock of gaming industry like every other EA offspring - for the love of god even ME3 is getting ganked by x,y,z fanboyz (not that it doesn't deserve it).
One/two years ago I've heard rumors in gaming "world" that the game was a disaster and that people from Lucas went ballistic once they saw its final (alpha - mind You) version. I'm sure that this game won't last longer than 3 months from now (25.02.2012) - and I'm afraid that BW might share its faith due to colossal looses they've generated. We will see but the future's grim - the future's BW....black I guess.
That all depends on Funding. simply put at this point (and i am leaving out afew variables) so long as the money coming in is enough to support the servers they are making a profit.
...and You know that the money is coming mate?! Support how many servers is also the case... besides why the hell am I poking the dead horse ("it's dead Jim"). Pard me.
Simple the removal of unused servers will fix that. the only reason there were so meny servers to begin with was because of the MASSIVE boom at launch. im giving it till the end of 2012 before it dies out. 3 months is too soon, ive been apart of dying games. they usually give atleast 3 months warning prior to closing the doors.
3 months is too soon for the final end but it will be the time that SW TOR really dies - the game will still be around but very few people will be interested in it - if any. I'm sure EA will think of some other silly ways to keep it in a phase of "life support" until the end of 2012 but never the less 300 mil USD will go down the drain and what's more important and why people are moaning - another SW dream (long awaited mind You) will be forfeited...such a waste.
You guys are right, however you have to find the develpers who are in for it more than just money. bascially the devs who are changing things instead of releaseing the same cookie cutter game over and over. Bioware tried and failed, but atleast they tried. The Secret World and Guild Wars 2 are the next 2 that actually look different, Archage might also be on the list but my research into the game hasnt really come up with enough knowladge into the game to make a verdict.
how did they "try"
they copied wow, removed half the features, took out all choice in leveling areas, then stuck in a load of voice over. Theres nothing innovative in SWTOR
They tried by incorperationg new things into the game. did you forget about the cover system, how Huttball as annoying as it became was something actually new or least something old with a new twist. focusing on story over grind, the space battles. removal of auto attack. originally they allowed all weapons and armor to be upgraded to be as powerful if not more powerful that the coveted endgame gear (however this was scrapped before Open Beta), or the enviromental things you could attack which causes a powerful AoE that usually drops your opponents.
now not all of these things could be deemed as good but they did bring in a new form of flavor. if anything SWTOR SHOULD be disected take the good ideas remove the bad ones and put into the next gen games.
I will add some.
The lack of people knowing what the f*ck there doing. Oh wait.. not having to group and learn how to play your class is not new.
Lack of content or filler. I am max level, max geared... what to do... make an alt. Where are the good days of continue to level 1 character and improve em.
i was speaking of new Features, not new players.
back to Spike, the game will still be around. people will still enjoy it. thats almost needless to say, i dont think its Biowares bad decisions towards making a MMO that will kill it either. if anything i would say that its BEST decision was releaseing it when it did. on the horizon we have some MASSIVE titles, i dont think bioware thought that they would top these 2. im sure some were hopeful but needless to say GW2 has a Ron Paul like Following and TSW is gonna be a sleeper hit for the Challenge or Hardcore/Puzzle crowd.
im confident that SWTOR will stay, probubly until the 3 months probation passed GW2 and TSW ends. (so 6 months instead.)
Because i can. I'm Hopeful For Every Game, Until the Fan Boys Attack My Games. Then the Knives Come Out. Logic every gamers worst enemy.

You are right in all those things (even if I'm exaggerating) - but do You really think that with all the mmo development from let's say even as late as 2003 SWG - 2011 RIFT this is even worth mentioning. This is not some small company developing a game in a garage... honestly most of the people were comparing SW TOR to WOW during beta - it's like comparing a 1990 car with a 2010 car? I love Star Wars but BW and EA care shit about us fans and only focus on earning money striping us from a decent game.
sorry to burst your bubble, but EA doesnt care about "stripping you of a decent game" EA's only concern is money. thus the developers that want to change things should see this as a golden opportunity, going to Blizzard and saying we have a great idea that will change all these things in the MMO genre will get you laughed out of the building. EA will say sure, so long as we get a profit we will pay you to make it. EA had 0 input in SWTOR, same as it has 0 input in TSW, same as it has had 0 input in any other game its producing. why because they know regardless they will make a profit. so why would they even care if the games successful or not. they are basically throwing a handful of stones and hopeing one hits the target.

The server I play on had over 200 players in fleet Tuesday at 330 am server time. Where is the decline coming from? Please note that they keep making incremental press rrleases that show an increase in numbers. That said, a decline wouldn't be out of question, but if you're out there trying to prove said decline, then you need to come with some really solid evidence.

and its only a shit hole if you look at he genre as a whole. i never have, if you wish to look at it as a whole you will see its pathway is the same as all the other genres. they got worse before they got better, but they ALLWAYS got better.
So i vote to stop getting angery at EA, they are doing the best thing for the genre right now. its like Medcine, Tastes aweful, but it works.

Questing doesn't work. Everybody is just so bored they are willing to give a game a month or 2 in hopes it will be half decent... but from my experience.. all these quest to solo level games SUCK, thats fact not opinion.
Debatable, that becomes about how they approch it. the problem lays in when you decide to make the levels either too small or too big. i will use SWTOR as a example. Hoth and Nar Shadda, Hoth was huge, and they kept making quests on the opposate side of it. got really annoying and old. Nar Shadda felt like you were crammed into a tuna can completeing quests. Bioware didnt take either of these into account. also the quests didn't change, repeated Kill, Fetch, Boss structure. when making something in a set area you need the sizing to fit the quests and the quests must change.

Hmm sounds more like a crusade - individual goals are the ones most important. I think that after WAR, SWTOR is a major setback and by consuming more and more game studios EA simply force their dumb down version of meaningless but possibly financially worthy gaming experience. As gamers and societies we agree on that and that is our biggest failure - it's not that we only remember that the games and movies were better in the old days - they simply were better.

Sorry nope, if a company was gonna go out of buiness over a bad idea then they were gonna go out of buisness period. Once again EA isn't forcing anything 0 input into the games the publish. EA is a enabler, much like McDonalds. some people see eating at McDonalds every day as a bad idea, Others don't. Natural selection claims those that don't. Thus Some people See their new game design as a bad idea, others don't. EA doesnt care if the idea is bad or not, they will enable you to make it.

I shall play till my interest dies, which so far hasnt. ..Its how Im sure many have said before, if you no longer have fun, leave. Why the big deal of posting about it, not like it will fix what you feel is wrong with it to begin with. And sadly, the luck of the draw with what server you chose does seem to be the case, cause mine is always busy on fleets, both sides. *shrug*.
Just checked the server status page - A grand total of 1 heavy server at 8 pm est. Yeah, this game is thriving.
Hehe yeah I saw that as well.
Before this game was released, I predicted that it would have a lot of success in initial sales, but fail to maintain any sizable amount of players for a long period of time. I like to check back here every now and then to see if my prediction comes true or not.

Reps rerolling Empire has what to do with overall game population, exactly? Even saying that much means giving you the benefit of the doubt, as I have never wanted to roll Rep side, so I wouldn't know what a Rep population decline would even look like.

I'm not nessessarily hate mongering. i feel the game was bad (mainly cause im bitter about them removing everything i loved from the game before it was launched) but has some strong points that should be noted by other companies and encorperated into their respective games.

Not true. If Bioware read these posts (hopefuilly they do as these forums people can post on who do not have an active SWTOR account) to see why people are not playing, and are in a position to add/change/fix the problem then they will do.

you asked where is this declining population coming from. To see it for yourself just roll a republic char on pretty much any "light" server and you will see how empty this game can feel.. i'd like to see some official numbers but my guess this game is probably about 70% empire overall.
