Is Tera going to be grindy?

ipekaipeka Member Posts: 222

For anyone who played the beta , does this game seem grindy to you ?

I remember Aion on the first release , and boy ...how many bots were there .. I understand this is action-combat oriented .but that makes it even worse,  if this game needs you to kill loads of mobs  then ,it'll just be spamming butto spamming game .

It won't be grindy in the sense that it will take an eternity to level (like Aion/Lineage) but it will be grindy in a sense that you have to repetedly kill the same mobs via questing (like WoW/Rift).

One thing I do want to point out is that questing give alot of xp- so much that you won't ever complete all the quests in a zone before you outlevel it  - I recommend picking up the quests that give alot of xp and skip the ones that don't give alot.

When the going gets slow- move to the next area.

Follow your main quest and try to complete it if possible but you don't have to complete it before moving to the next province.

Well some friends of a friend of mine in the current beta got from 1-26 in not even 24 hours, and they did it in a group of 5 people the entire time, and they all have rl obligations and such, some work, go to colledge etc, yet they still were able to pretty much hit the level cap of this beta in less than 24 hours, The proposed max lv on launch I think is gonna be 60, but also, the beta could have increased exp rates, I am unsure tbh.

Being a pessimist is a win-win pattern of thinking. If you're a pessimist (I'll admit that I am!) you're either:

    A. Proven right (if something bad happens)

    or

    B. Pleasantly surprised (if something good happens)

Either way, you can't lose! Try it out sometime!

You make it sound very linear.... thats what really annoyed me about Aion, hope Tera isnt the same

Somebody had mentioned in game that the xp was increased for the beta and that the devs had mentioned this on the forums.

Personally I don't mind this but since I think leveling is too quick I imagine other might like the quick leveling. Which means (if this is true) they are going to be in for a rude awakening.

To the poster mentioned the game being linear; the story quests are of course linnear but I had picked up a quest which made me roll my eyes and just head out on my own and explore. The world, at least from what I've seen, seems pretty wide open so you just head out and explore if you'd like.

I really like the art design and combat but I strongly suspect that people are going to be dissaponted if they aren't into pvp or some sort or whatever they have cooked up with this political end game system.

The quests are very shallow and the writing is very pulp fantasy. Short of finding your own fun I can't help but feel the quests and leveling aren't really enough.

I mention pvp because I find pvp to be a valid "end game" if not a purpose in and of itself. But other than that for the player who is not a raider I'm not sure what they will find that is worthy enough to keep them in game for a long period of time.

Could not be more right. I don't know about everyone else, but I am really sick of this type of grind. IMO it's worse than straight mob grinding anymore!

There are quest hubs and the likes... but there are different area's you can go to at the same level, so i wouldnt call it linear but not go any where do anything type either.. somewhere inbetween

Definitely quest-driven levelling, although as I look back at lvl27, there are LOADS of quests I simply ignored, as they weren't needed. And (so far) they've tended to involve fairly small numbers, 8-15 kills maximum, which honestly limits the appeal of grouping, since they're over so fast. Both of the dungeons we've been given access to each have half a dozen repeatable quests attached to them, so if you're running them repeatedly, you'll complete those rep quests as you go as well.

At this point, the XP/level grind is very light. Not everyone will like the mechanics of it, but compared to your stereotypical asian grinder, there's no resemblance at all. Guess we'll see if that holds true in the higher levels. Enmass has said that side from the batches of quests added to TERA over in KR, they've actually thrown a few more in themselves.

Fast leveling is not all good unless there is a very rich end game.

No, it won't be grindy. In fact, it's part of the reason why Koreans aren't too fond of it.

I'm thinking this was part of the reason they delayed NA launch for so long, to allow for more endgame content. To be honest game isn't really my cup of tea so I'll probably be passing on it.

the sentence "getting lvl cap in one week" is really worse then the word "grinding" for me.

like someone on this forum say once, grinding is a state of mind, it depends how ppl face the repetitive actions in game, and all mmorpgs have it. There are some ways to make "grinding" (the repetitive actions) less bored but making players reach lvl cap in 1 week its the worse solution imo.

For me i only considering a game grindy if at certain moment or lvl, i only have one option to make progress. As long i have diferent hunting zones to go solo, diferent hunting zones to go on party, progression on craft, playing with economy, etc, the game is never grindy.

In the pass L2 wasnt grindy for me, now it is from lvl 1 to 85 because all it matters during this lvls is reaching next lvl as soon as possible.

Going to try Tera on May, but for now dont like the idea that leveling is super fast.

to be perfectly honest , i am buying this game to fill the time void after quiting wow+swtor and waiting for gw2 . I MIGHT actually subscribe this game as my new subscription mmo (considering gw2 is subscription based) .

Knowing that this isnt asian grindy fest , i might actually feel a tad of excitment  right now.  But no...no feverrrrrr...
