Why archeage will save sandbox.

Bobbie203Bobbie203 Member Posts: 136

Guys i strongly believe archeage will save sandbox genre, even though it is made by koreans. I assure you, the director of archeage is famous, he is the grandfather that started the largest asian mmorpg especially in korea, he has tons of money and expertise behind it. What is more the director clearl stats  he wants more of UO sandbox feature into this game.

guys, this game isnt a clone of any themeparks at all, this is it, the real deal, its not from unknown game development team .

This game is also not from some small indie with small budget. We are talking big big fnancial development team.

Not just sandbox but also pve epic boss fights included with your clans and guilds. Merg sandbox elements with pve= winner.

This game is also was inspired by UO according to the director.  from sandbox crafting materials, to guild vs guild pvp, sieges, build houses and your own castle. Amazing huge potential.

I did not mention the director of archeage is the asian counterpart of richard garrott.

If it's successful(and it will be), I'm going to have an awesome time reading the hypocricy on these forums.  We will see all of the WoW'ers come out of the woodwork, claiming how AA is so awesome.  When it wasn't so long ago that they were arguing that sandbox was dead and would never, could never come back.

I always said that all it needs is a AAA developer.  These new kids just never had a chance to play a truley good sandbox.  So they think that it's like a unicorn, and the best representation that we can get is DF and MO.  That's all they know and they can't  figure out how it could be any different.

I hate the visual theme of the game but apart from that it seems to have a lot going for it in terms of gameplay. Not sure how they have managed to deal with the PvP ffa/non ffa loot/no loot dilema but I hope it turns out to be a great game. I am probably not going to get it simply due to the visuals but other then that hope this game is what you want. As for saving sandbox....don't think it will simply because sandbox is too niche. Now if they had a sandox without ffa pvp.....

I really hope u are right .. tried playing aion and lasted about 5 mins in it ... on the other hand , i had a really awesome gaming experience whit dear esther , a fresh breath of air of what gaming could be like if developers use their imagination instead of what's popular ...

Sandbox never died. EVE and others still exist.  Sandbox games do not get launched as a rule because making a wow-clone themepark game is a safer investment.  Not saying that AA won't succeed, just that there are games out there.  Myself I like that the majority of people play wow-clones... less whining in the sandbox games = less nerfing of the game.  "Oh this is too hard". Just my opinion.

    Currently bored with MMO's.

as there are no plans for the game to be released in the West, or at least outside of Korea/China then i don't see how Archeage will be saving anything, you even need to have a Korean social security number or something in order to play the game, unless that changes, i doubt anyone will even notice Archeage doing anything. Perhaps the reasons why there are no western publishers for this game is because it represents such a risk that nobody is willing to take a gamble on it. Wouldnt be the first time after all.image

I am really waiting for this game but i hope it can save itself first ebfore it tries to save sandbox genre. Sandbox MMOS just fade away into dark corners after realease.

I don't know i'm a bit reserved about this game. I really love sandbox games, i play almost only them, but for some reason i just don't feel it that much about Archeage, it just seam to be to much focused on level/gear grind which is like the opposite of what a sandbox is supposed to be about. I hope i'm wrong and the game will prove other wise, but for now, i'm just in a "wait and see" stance. But when i watch some vid from this game it just look like an other L2 with some sandbox elements added, which just doesn't feel right. Sandbox is a question of philosophy, its not like added few feature will turn your game into a sandbox, so i'm reserved here.

Also to be comparable to UO, they will really need all that richness with some real in game support; with items, mechanisms and all. Whatever you played in Uo you had something to back you up in game. Hardcore rper, pvper, murdered, community builder, greifer, pver, they all had very strong elements in this game to support their play style, damn a lot of those mechanism created some play style like the witch hunter or the treasure hunter. So i really have yet to see something like this happen again in mmo design. Up until an mmo prove they did that, no mmo will be comparable to UO to me. So many claimed to be the next UO and fell flat on their nose because that richness were nowhere around.

Im sandboxer from sandboxer.org and I tend to agree with OP. Many low budget sandbox mmos made it look like ALL sandbox mmos are bug ridden gank fests. This doesn't have to be true. Archeage will help the sandbox genre lose its low buget image.

Forget the hype, it's at least a year away, it was designed with the western market in mind, it will have been beta's and polished to death, so any western publisher will just need to agree a price and possibly translate, video's look good, gameplay sounds good, let's wait until we play it before cranking up the hype wagon.

The visual theme is one of the things that keeps me watching this game.  To my eyes, it is one of the best things it has going for it.  I have a lot of concerns about how they are going to deal with PvP, because it sounds like there is going to be open PvP which for me is a no go.  I don't want PvP in my day to day gaming.

I truly hope sandboxers get what they have wanted with this title.

It's gotta make it over to the west first... would love to see that happen.

Every MMORPG is AWESOME, until it's released!
    I don't want a game so much as I want a WORLD!

the producer and director specifically said he wanted uo features  in a recent interview.

he knows what AA will be. its big budget, and a famous producer director to go alone with it. AA wont go wrong im sure.

This game will have ffa pvp unfortunately for those who dont want ffa pvp. This is a sandbox, and ffa pvp goes alone with it.

Your mount has health bar and it could get killed.

So it will help losing the low budget image, what about the gank fest part??

the producer said in the interview to let players put murders to trial and possibly jail time. The game wants to let players to policy murders and gankers.

Unless its moved recently, im pretty sure thats still not in the west..  though the only publishers on the website that i saw were for the korean and chinese versions, no mention of a russian one, but irrelevant, unless its also released in west, how would that make any difference ? image

XL Games seem to be throwing so much love into this game. Like 60% of the world still not completed, 4 more races to add, 1GB patch every week atleast, normally a 50mb patch every day as well, my god it's just going to blow everything else out of the water.

ArcheAge will not only save the sandbox sub-genre but the MMORPG genre as a whole which is now in a state of decadence with an endless stream of WoW clones and Pay 2 Win games.

West of the Urals is Europe, that's like saying East coast isn't US compared to West coast.

I'm a huge fan and will definately play this game but... it can't save a genre it's not part of. It's a level oriented theme park with sandbox features... it will create the market for a sandpark though.

Everything I say is my opinion or personal preference. You may or may not find it useful to your cause but regardless I am entitled to it.

Okay but the game wont be in the USA for another 2 to 3 years at least. They set themselves up for failure when they created the whole game for the Korean nation, they should of had hired people that could of translated to English the whole phase of the development. Others have said it will take them 5 years to make it into proper English version of the game. I am skeptical cause they have poor translations when they do games in this manner. I love the game and how it looks but I just can't wait that long to play it.

Wrong wrong, Jake stated they are aiming for the market of west and not east mainly so i doubt it will be 2 years even, more like next year Q2-Q3
