And then I played it. It has nice graphics and smooth gameplay, but what seems to be a nice combat system at first, becomes very boring after a while. Swing at monster, swing some more, monster does attack animation, right-click to dodge, swing some more. The little girl race is also quite disturbing.
I felt there was so much potential for TERA but they made another thempark WoW-clone and I'm dissappointed.

Someone's Jaded level is over 9000.
I'm sorry, but I had such high hopes for this game.
the combat is different enough to hold my attention for a month or so. i really like the healing. you have to actually pay attention to what you are doing, and manage your mana. i also had fun with the pvp over the last cbt. it's a themepark mmo, i didnt expect anything too ground breaking, it is what it is.
I've got the straight edge.
I enjoyed my weekend with Tera, however, i walked away in the end. The combat alone almost had me, it really did. I enjoyed the crafting, as i did when i played Aion at launch...then i thought about it....it's Aion's crafting system. To the letter. So is the flight point map, although i gotta say don't do any form of drugs and watch the light speed warp during the flight. I thought it was pretty nice, but my wife was attempting to look and couldn't
The combat is fluid and i honestly didn't get bored of it. The questing system is so tired, so instead i reversed my entire way of thinking when playing these games and actually took the red story quests only and began grinding like a madman. Grinding in this game is amazingly fun and i hate grinding.
The sad note is, and it really is just a personal thing: I coudn't get over the Elin. I just couldn't. It's a different mind set over in the East as they view these types of matured and sexualized little girl characters very differently than the West. It really is just a matter of personal choice, but i seriously coudn't look at them. I am the father of a girl and i'm not sure if it's because i've matured over the years or what but it turned my stomach to even accept a quest from one.
I had a hard time with the people playing the game as well. I've been through several betas over the past few years, and i have never seen that amount of vitriol and venom spewed in chat before. Relentlessly. For the entire event. It was a non stop war. Every group had at least one amazingly rude person in it. Most times it was entire groups. That, in reality, is what really did me in. If that changes i may give it more consideration.
Even with a pleasant grind, amazing combat, and THE most stunning visuals i've seen in a MMO at any point, i just couldn't take that next step. My thought process on this was that GW2 is coming and it will be quite stunning in it's own right. It has no sub and i'm already deeply vested in Tyria and have been for years. Tera just has unfortunate timing of coming out within 6 months of GW2 (or whatever the timeline for release is). I couldn't make an investment in the game based off of my experience this weekend, however, i wish the game the greatest of success because i did enjoy my time there this weekend.
Since when was WoW FPS combat?
Since when did WoW have open world PvP?
Since when did WoW have an extensive political system?
When you awnser these, your thread may become valid.
So I see you've never played the game and talk about it. Cool. Its FPS.
And wow doesnt have world pvp.
WTF has WoW got to do with anything. You are the first person to mention it in this thread. Fixate much? Does Tera have, dynamic events or WvW? (See what I did there?)
I thought the visuals where stunning. Gob smackingly (and suprisingly) so, not only that I cold play everything maxed out on my laptop. Combat was interesting. I found it a bit dull at first then fun as I opened more skills and got to mess with chains. I could see it starting to get a bit dull once those where optimised for different situations. The themepark quest hub to quest hub was really uninspiring (arent they all?).
I think I'll probablly go with it to tide me over to GW2 (or TSW). Just not completely sure about it.
I would like to try this game out, can eny one say if its another game that you can top out and complete 90% of the content in under 3 weeks?
Wow do have open world pvp, in vanilla , most fanous is in TM, southshore, sacking of stormwind.
Iirc, but the honor system which is easier to get in BG kills it...
RIP Orc Choppa
OP did mentioned " themepark wow-clone"
They look kind of like fae folk to me, which are typically smaller than humans. As for the whole east/west perception of sexuality (as well as fae folk), I've always thought of Tinkerbell as pushing the sexuality borders for a western cartoon made for kids.
WTF are you talking about. FPS stands for first person shooter. You cant go into first person in TERA. Its 3rd person.
And wow had tons of open world pvp. Its not common in todays game anymore, but they had it.
Please do your reasearch before you spit out random non true facts about games.
How do you target in TERA? Oh right you dont, its FPS.
Well I was going to apologise but seeing as you went on a full blown personal attack I'll pass on that. I searched the page for "WoW " rather than "WoW-" before posting, an honest mistake. I rather doubt you know 'my kind' let alone having 'met them'.
Ok this post will mostly be useless but
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
No targeting = FPS?
Ah mah gahd! Tetris is an FPS!?
This post should win an award of some sort.
There are certain queer times and occasions in this strange mixed affair we call life when a man takes this whole universe for a vast practical joke, though the wit thereof he but dimly discerns, and more than suspects that the joke is at nobody's expense but his own.
-- Herman Melville
we can call it a third person shooter: TPS
i didn't really care for Tera personally. combat was cool, but that's it for me.
MMOARPG.
Massively multiplayer online action role playing game.
Like how Zelda is an ARPG.
I just got to level 10 in WoW, I can't cast Rez on anyone? I mean I'm a paladin I figure you'd get Rez....
I only have three abilities? I can "judge" things and hit my level 10 spec ability "Templar's Verdict" which pretty much one shots anything, talk about easy mode, oh and I have "crusader strike" to build up "holy power" seems like a rip off of combo points...
Ok now maybe some of you caught on that I am pointing out to the OP that judging a game by the first 10 levels, even the first 20 levels, is frackin stupid. Sorry it is.
"Oh but if a game doesn't captivate me in the first 5 minutes its the games fault! Boo hoo hoo!" When you judge a book by the introduction there is no one to blame but yourself. If you had read merely the first 20 pages of the hobbit and gave up, guess who THATS on.
You.
I have played many MMORPG's, and over the years and I've acquired the talent of knowing when the first 20 levels of a game are the exact same as every other thempark MMO ever, that the rest of the game tends to be like every other thempark MMO ever.
