One of the defining theme about gw2 is the action you did will affect anyone around you , so i feel every activity we did should have an influence onto others. Then the only thing pops into my mind is only 1 thing : politic !!
So just few days ago i saw the upcoming turn-based mmorpg wakfu , i found this interesting system they used, kinda old concept i think. Itsa politic system where voted individual can govern certain city /land , electing officials and well affecting citizen living within the city .

You can read all about it there, but basically as governour you do:
-setting tax , probably the deposit money within the auction house and price of items sold by npc
-Making laws, in wakfu u can set a law not to kill certain mobs , because it is endangered specises .
-Managing internatioanl relationship within other cities , declaring war or alliance .
This politic system in MMORPGS has been in existence for long time, but never implemented in high-end mmorpgs . I am not asking areanet to implement it , but how would u imagine if it is implemented ?

So one schmuck or a group of them can determine how enjoyable the game is for me? Sorry, I get enough politics in real life. GW2 doesn't need it and I'm glad it's not featured.
yeah but it would keep those hard core raid guild leaders, who are control freaks with anti social priorities, distracted enough to keep them away from the rest of us

What the politics should be is the relations between player races which could cause wars and alliances. Taxes have no reason to be in a game like this, and halting attacks on mobs is dumb.

First of all, consider the fact that GW2 is a themepark mmorpg, not a sandbox mmorpg. Second of all, Anet does not want competition in GW2's PvE world (outside of minigames).
Besides, isn't it part of at least one upcoming big-ish mmo? TERA I think?
See here is the interesting part , gw2 has tons of small cities right ? ppl , who has citizenship in one particular city can vote for the mayor of the town . And in wakfu u can only govern 2 weeks, then reelection .
If you dont like the guy running in your town , maybe you can leave the town or re-elect someone else.

Yes. Guild Wars is about guilds warring. To Anet it refers to two things. PvP seperate from PvE (in GW2 this comes in the forms of Structured PvP and WvWvW) on the one hand and a lore event on the other hand, not actually wars between guilds in the PvE world.

I think you'll have plenty of that between Guilds and lots of temporary alliances and basckstabbing in WvW.
Sorry, but the way GW2's PvE world is set up does not leave a lot of room for politicking.. Hopefully someone in the future will take what's best from GW2 and put it in a more of a sandbox setting.. but I don't see it happening in GW2 directly..
Unless they decide to go crazy and add new sandbox/FFA/guild-based areas in an expansion, like what ArcheAge is doing. That would be awesome and really not that big a stretch of imagination...
I don't think politics are necessary, but I can see ways to tie them into the dynamic events. so a year or 2 down the line when there are enough DE's they could implement something that gave people ways to influence which DE's are more likely to happen in certain areas.
I don't think it'd work well in GW2, the different nations in the game already have their governor's. The main one being Queen Jennah. The game focuses very heavily on story, so your character may be able to eventually reach a high governmental station story-wise. Having a political system in the game would only complicate the potential for the PvE in the game, not to mention it allows other people to dicate how fun the game is for someone else.
politics=largest guild wins so all large guilds will try to avoid eachother and choose a server with no large guild so they can dominate so it defeats the purpose of politics when there is no competition to start out with.

Not every game has to have every feature. ArenaNet is building GW2 around a spirit of pure PVE cooperation. Politics, as described in that Wakfu page don't seem like they fit at all with what ArenaNet is trying to do.
Don't get me wrong, I love that Wakfu is embracing it and I hope it's very successful for them. I think the genre needs a bunch of different varieties of games.

Whereas I really like political games I find GW offers enough in terms of influencing a certain region. Once a guild claims a castle/whatever in a WvW region they can chose what kind of buffs will be granted to players roaming the region. To me GW2 will be more of a game that you just enjoy without taking it too seriously.
I don't like the details you mentioned. In GW2 you can do quite nice things in towns and guild possessions already. For example, you can buff something you own in WvW to affect all nearby players or turn all of the city guild's banners into your banners. Imagine your guild's banners waving all over Divinity's Reach.
Personally, the stuff you listed affects a lot of players in a negative way and can really change your gaming experience for the worse. Imagine you have a good reputation with the local quaggan camp, but all of a sudden some stupid declares ware on them. Setting tax and controlling the economy is like a big joke and could really danger and deflate the ingame economoy. Imagine every two weeks another guild would set up a monopoly on crafting materials.
Also, laws dictate how you should play the game. A good game, sandbox or not, allows everyone to choose what they want to play and how they want to get there within the realm of possibilites.
So far, the guild system of GW2 blows the system of wakfu out of the water.
No doubt about it , wakfu never had the itention to be anyone's killer . I am just saying ,"what if.."
I've honestly never seen it well implemented in an mmorpg so I really can't say if it would be good or bad. I suppose it could be cool - not something I'd care to take part in much though.

Politics would ruin the game, its about PvP.
There is NO way, any game would last, if it had politics as an end-game, what a nightmare of egos that would be!!!
I think there is enough "politics" involved in guilds themselves, that we don't need to impliment politics in game. Politics would be better served in an open PvP game I'd think.
Unless the gameworld has pl sandbox elements focused on a player driven world including player created cities/communities (ala SWG) and a totally player driven economy/society than political game mechanics=nothing more than a drama generator and endgame for the epeen.
politics in video games ISN'T good, all it is is a way for people to harass others, you get one jerky but powerful guild in control and everyone but them suffers.. I have seen it in L2 it will happen in Tera and many other games that try it. There are just too many a holes in the gaming world these days to make a political system work well.
