Questions about Vanguard

Looking for that old love and feeling. EQ had it, you would get together with a few of your buddies and just strike out across the massive universe, well it felt rather large back in the day, to kill mobs and gain XP. This would usually turn into a total hair brained adventure that either got everyone killed, or proved to be profitable(sp).  There were few quests, and some epic quests for legendary weapons. There were some zones better then others for random drops and what not. There wasn't an invisible line that would only allow 5 of you into that zone full of named mobs that dropped nice loot. Everything was public, you had to fight over spawns for raids..

I don't mind the quest model, but would also like to just roam the game and find my own trouble sometimes. I tried to go back to EQ, but can not stand the UI nor the graphics. Vanguard trial island so far is decent, little older, but still somewhat bearable. What was nice about EQ was the mystery, not everything was known. Wouldn't mind seeing that again in an MMO. I know there is like 1 developer, but hear rumors with it possibly going F2P that it could gain some more. I believe DDO and LOTRO were totally saved by the F2P model, so its not a bad thing, but I tend to be a straight up subscriber.

Wife and I are playing swtor but with the mass exodus we have seen with server populations etc we may be ready to bail ourselves. Just tryng to get a feel from anyone STILL playing Vanguard if it may be coming a bit more active and wheter it has that old school go play in a sandbox and find some trouble worth getting into feel?

Well, that's pretty much how I play Vanguard when I play it. Actually my problem with Vanguard is that I tend to lose myself in the game and spend more time than I intended which is why I cut down my playing of it for now. Limited time.

Having said that I rarely do the quests as I tend to wander. Having said THAT I would warn that there are many difficult places where you can easily get killed doing this.

As far as whether it will get more people, well, apparently some cm or someone on a twitter feed said that it was going to to f2p. I find this hard to believe but if it does it will most likely get more people.

Other than that it has a low population of devoted playeres so you would have to deal with that.

Thanks for the reply! Sounds interesting, used to always get ourselves in trouble wandering into dangerous areas. Always vowed to come back when we were stronger and wipe the place out! I usually travel the MMO universe with a few friends and family so I know at least three of us would start out together. Priority I imagine would be to find a somewhat active guild.

interesting.  i just downloaded the trial and played the last couple days.  i couldn't believe how fun the game is..it had that old school mmo feel i used to get when i played DAoC.  i am resubbing as we speak. i played about 4 classes to 10 and i have met a number of people.  i really don't know what to expect once i leave noob isle.... seems everyone i have grouped with or were playing were subscribers.  having played the game in beta and launch i can tell you that many of the bugs have been resolved with a number of fixes on the class balance issues that were rampant. this game is actually challenging and i found myself grouped with the same 3 people from level 2 all the way to completing temple because we were so intrigued and feeding off each other... i havent felt that in an mmo in a LONG time.  if any of you start playing i am on Telon server lvl 10 druid named spankyou.

If your looking for a guild, try Twighlyte Song.  It is an excellent guild, especially for new players.

The game is a lot of fun.  I had a great time as a paladin and enjoyed all 3 spheres.  I never made it off the beginner island but remember from beta how large and open the world was.

I will likely play it a gain soon (maybe in the summer). . FE has me for right now.

Wa min God! Se æx on min heafod is!

SWTOR has hit Vanguard very hard in december, but now we see many people return and an influx of new people, though I dont think we are already at the old numbers again.

The EU server Halgar is dead, though (every time I logged in it was exactly 9 people plus me, a strange coincicence).

About leaving IoD: Dont expect to see people exept in the main spots (Khal, Vescals). Vanguard is MASSIVE. So, in order to get groups, you really need to use the LFG tool. Preferably even join a guild. Twighlyte Song is a great choice for newbies, very friendly, very casual, and very tolerant. Its even tolerated if you keep your alt characters in the guild and join a raid guild with your main.
