Ya loved that game, tried to reintall but could not get it to work. Shame I wanted to see the changes.
EQOA - that's the one for PS2 that's closing down, not EQ for PC
You can't use the install CD anymore, the game has changed far too much for that. Simply download the installer from their site. One tip is not to put it in program files directory on windows 7/vista. Microsoft decided it didn't want programs to change files that are in the program files directory, well that was never wrong before so plenty of old programs do that.
The game is great and they are still putting tons of work into it and adding improving features. Yes, some people can't get over the graphics, but for the rest of us it is a blast. Eye candy does not equal good fun.
Game is still beyond awesome. If they were to copy almost all the game and bottle in a new package with updated gfx we would have a winner.
Everything you need to know about Elder Scrolls Online
Playing: GW2
Waiting on: TESO
Next Flop: Planetside 2
Best MMO of all time: Asheron's Call - The first company to recreate AC will be the next greatest MMO.
I would almost say that is the problem with gamers now a days. It is all about how impressive the graphics are. People who think that way are constantly disappointed as they jump from the newest pretty game to next newest pretty game to find everything else lacking and unoriginal.
Gameplay trumps graphics everytime.
Absolutely right - we will continue to see fantastic looking games launch, bolstered by fanatical hype, enjoy a brief period of success, followed by a slippery slope into "one of the many" mediocrity. AC is one of the few that sets itself aside as truly original.
truly the best MMO ever made
I tend to agree, but at this point the game would do well with a new engine and a minor graphics overhaul. Doubt that will ever happen though
saw the thread title on the recent posts lists and it made me go wtf consider EQ is over 100k subs and AC is less than 10k.
Gameplay over graphics is true, but AC's graphics are pretty tough to get past even with that said.
I wish they'd do that for both Asheron's Call and Ultima Online.
What happens when you log off your characters????.....

Dark Age of Camelot
As others said, it's not EverQuest that got closed. It was EQ: Online Adventures for the PS2. Two totally different games.
EQ is still going strong.......I always wanted to try AC but until it goes f2p taht wont happen......I'm surprised people still sub to either AC or UO with both being so graphically challenged.
Do they still allow things like plat-macros and botting? Ah, good times.
And EQ is different how exactly? Besides, the graphics point is moot. People didn't play them for graphics to begin with, and many aren't so petty that it would even be a detering factor.
If you can't see past the graphics far enough to realize all of the areas that this game (as well as EQ and UO) dominate, then that's unfortunate. Graphics never have, and never will, make a game great.
People love Minecraft and let's be honest Minecraft has a stylized retro look. Same for Terraria and many other retro games. So why can't people see and play Asheron's Call like Minecraft or Terraria? It's retro gaming goodness!
AC has a monthly fee, not many are willing to pay to play a older game.
How is not wanting to play games entitlement? People use this word all the time and it doesn't make sense. I don't want to pay for swtor or wow. Not because I am entitled but because I don't want to play them at all. I would love to see some older games get put onto a new engine. Everquest and AC on a new engine would be interesting.
Looks like a title failure.
I prefered UO/EQ myself. Graphics in UO do not bother me, and I prefer the 2d client, but I do not like the new skill systems and changes....If their was a official classic server, I would go back (have like 4 times).
