This is an odd comment. TERA is coming out in like two months and GW2 is much further away, It's not like you're choosing between the two at this point. What's stopping anyone from trying TERA in the mean time while waiting for GW2? Personally I will play TSW while waiting for GW2.

I'm sure I'll try GW2 at some point, I personally know enough people who plan to play because they liked GW so much. I like the direction they are taking with certain MMO elements but I'm not convinced it will be deep enough to overlook the standard combat. I know it has block and dodge features but I seen far too much tab target stand there and trade blows in gameplay videos.
For the sake of the dynamics they are boasting I hope I'm wrong, the genre could use some re-tooling on the "standard".
So like Warhammer Online? How'd that work out for them?
No idea what happen to warhammer online, little history be nice.
They tacked their dynamic events on to a quest grind system. It was an after thought. You can't just tack something like that on in an MMORPG, the world has to be built around it.
Also, it was prophecized to be the actual WoW killer. It might have 1 server left. It tanked hard because of the leveling process - the same as TERAs. Even though Warhammers pvp was actually quite good.
You know, that's the oddest comment. GW2 as presented in the videos is WARhammer 2 in its heart (well, if they had stayed true to DAoC and implemented three factions instead of two). The main issue that killed WAR was not questing along with DE, I see a lot of selective memory here. The major issue was that WAR had spread their population too thin. They started with too many servers, set the launch server cap too low. Then they raised the server cap but it was already too late because retention leaves started to kick in and the servers were getting less people instead of more. Less people meant less things to do as group in the open world, less DE and so on. Only the warzones remained fun, because whenever these kicked in, they were guaranteed to have enough population.
Now, GW2 seems to have learned from WAR's mistakes. They fill their servers to the brim, to the point of having a second and third server kicking in, they are scaling all their events, they are doing everything they can to avoid issues with lack of population.
So, comparing Tera to WAR was a mistake, mainly because GW2 seem to be evolving in so much more a natural evolution of WAR, a DAoC 3 if you like (without healers).
Honestly, I'll probably pick up gw2 and see how the game holds up to the hype, while still subbing to TERA. I mean it's only box price and then f2p afterwards so no harm right? If GW2 turns out to be fun then I get two fun games (^.^)b !!! If not then oh well...I'll still have TERA
GW2 does seem interesting, I didn't really know much about it until a few weeks ago (NDA lifted). I never did try GW1, I saw NCsoft and said "meh." After burning out on RIFT I'll try anything that sets itself apart from WoW formula even if it's just combat .
So why should we play TERA, pay a Box and Sub fee, because they didn't have the development money to put in a good quest system?
TERA has a lot of competition coming into the market at the time it's going to, especially with GW2. GW2 doesn't charge a sub fee, and put in the development money to get rid of the linear quest grind.
Plus GW2 isn't even modified tab targetting, each weapon or spell attack uses the idea of AOE attack, if it is in the path of the attack, it is damaged as well. You can play the whole game without using tab.
Targetting is more for bosses and focus targetting at its weak points.
How much WoW could a WoWhater hate, if a WoWhater could hate WoW? As much WoW as a WoWhater would, if a WoWhater could hate WoW.

Execpt you got an auto target system where you look at the enem your automaticly targeting to it. So only use free targeting give you is aoes, which really doesn't mean much since most game let you land aoes where you want it anyways. Also the fact that range attacks hom..... GW2 combat

Maybe you aren't my point here, you don't have to target the enemy in the first place, or you can set it onto a target and run up to another target and melee it, instead of having to tab between the targets.
One thing I'm sure is that, projectiles are not homing in GW2, I think you are refering to Thief's pistol attacks, if you can dodge a bullet, I'll give you a bullet, just because a bullet travels faster doesn't mean it is homing. There are many ranger videos that shows arrows doesn't home.
Another thing better about GW2 skill design is that, skills are vesatile.
A quote taken from an interview with Jon Peters
"Many have skill chains that you can go through or break out of, toggle skills that can detonate previous skills for other effects, and a lot of versatility within each skill. For example, Savage Leap can be used to close on enemies, escape from enemies or jump over terrain gaps."
Im not sure how vesatile TERA skills are.
Plus one thing still isn't answered, How is TERA's dye system better than GW2? I mean.....its just dyes? Do they have more colours? lol
How much WoW could a WoWhater hate, if a WoWhater could hate WoW? As much WoW as a WoWhater would, if a WoWhater could hate WoW.
Idk about the dye, so no idea, i doubt it is though there really wasn't that much color but nor do i really give a damn about dyes lol. As for GW2 combat we will see once game is in beta, nothing like personally trying it to see what its really like.

Well that video seems to show alot of tab targetting, but I'll still keep my opinions on GW2 and keep an optimistic attitude / outlook until I actually play it myself...Till then, TERA all the way!
From what I've seen in Tera, you can dye all armor pieces primary and secondary colour. If you played Aion, you'd know how that works, although Aion could change only the primary colour at the time I was playing it.
Rift has in theory a similar system with primary and secondary colours. The problem is that a third colour layer is more prevailing than the two colours you're allowed to change, so dying clothes in Rift is not very effective.
As for GW2, noone has a clue before they actually play the game. It may work properly or it may "work" as Rift does.

...
Well, watching the combat videos of GW2 gave me a strong deja vu of my LOTRO minstrel war-speech combat.
What Tera defenitely does not have (or not present in first half of the game) is the interraction between skills, like arrows becoming fire arrows when flown over a firewall for example.
really have to see how vertile they are. The example he gives is using a leap skill to engage or disengage. For lancer i can use my charge skill the same way, i can charge toward or charge away. Also have a other charge skill that allow me to push through mobs of enemy when i'm surround or just use as a pure dmg skill depending on how i am it. So really depends on how vertile you want. Multi use for certain skill in Tera yes. Skill interaction? Beside skill chain together to allow faster casthing animation, no. As stated if you shoot an arrow through a fire wall it won't be a fire arrow. Although interesting concept should send suggestion to EME about it.
My guess is that TERA might appeal to players who are looking for more open world ffa pvp. I don't believe that is something that GW2 offers.
I will still buy GW2, TERA has been one of the few MMORPGs recently that has kept my interest, personally I also like the Korean style MMORPGs so it comes down to personal preference.
Like Sovrath said the PVP and the political metagame is what I am looking forward too, you can see that TERA has the L2 sould when it comes to small details that made Lineage a great game.
During Tera's cbt2 it was nice to finally see some world pvp...lot's of it in fact. Granted, this is only cbt and I imagine quite a few ppl preordered, won promotional beta keys, etc. to try the game out but still it was a fun experience. If the endgame politics and GvG/OWPvP are as good as ppl hope in the TERA forums then I'll probably stick around for a while
Here is an example of some of the combat and graphics:
A few coworkers of mine told me about Tera and I began to investigate it. They both preordered and got into CBT2 and I preordered right after it ended. They both told me they were unsure if the game was amazing or horrible. I decided to preorder the EU version aswell so I could try it over the weekend without waiting for CBT3.
At first the game was amazing, but I quickly saw what they meant about it becomming boring fast. (around level 13-14)
This is about where both of my coworkers got to at the end of the last beta. I decided to push past it and quickly found that the boring repetitive feel goes away entirely. The bright fantasy world style goes away right after you get passed lumbertown, all of the zones/areas from level 15 to 25 looked amazing. The combat system only gets more fun as you level and get more skills.
Are the quests repetitive? Yes, but frankly once you have you main skills you honestly don't care because combat is so damn fun. Grinding in this game is actually inrcredibly fun unlike your standard tab-target system. I had so much fun killing mobs I went from level 15 to 20 without noticing any annoyance from quests. This is one of the few games that allow you to kill mobs that are a much higher level than you are if you are skilled enough.
Also the best part of this game is the PVP. Nothing is more satisfying than killing the guy who keeps stealing your quest mobs or is farming "your" area. Going around as a PVP team with my buddy as 2 cats named "mittens" and "boots" is just too damn fun.
Oh and for the people who say the game looks blurry, change your lighting enhancement down to 1.
I like Teras quests. Sure they are linear as all hell and making alts may not be the most fun and exciting thing for most but i thoroughly enjoyed the quests. From protecting the bridge to going into the dungeon solo with the npc priest. I truly feel Tera tried to make it not so monotonous.
Once again. I am enjoying questing in Tera.
On a side note on topic with others posts: I have personally played every class to lvl 14. Sure some characters may have dodge and some have block. None ever felt the same to me, not even close. Grab the quests for the bonus xp if you do not like them, ignore the story. When i played a new class in Tera it felt like a NEW GAME TO ME!!! It has been awhile since i felt that kind of enjoyment in a game.
Hero Evermore Guild Master of Dragonspine since 1982. Playing Path of Exile and deeply in love with it.
I tend to agree that quests are simply a means to an end.
A game doesn't really start properly until end-game in an mmo, particularly if you enjoy PvP.
Yea this is how it has been in the past. But is it a good system? Is it really worth it to spend the time and the money, NOT having fun playing a game?
When GW2 promises fun the entire way, and also at end game? For less money?
GW2 looks fun at first but it has nothing to stride for and you can start the fun from level one, once I get to 80 itll just feel like I beat the game and ill just slowly get bored and stop playing.
as opposed to getting bored of tera before you even hit level cap, like millions have done already.
IMO, don't argue over this when you are an obvious GW2 fanboy.
Has anyone had much experience with dungeon xping and the stamina system? It seems like the stamina system forces you to do quests or you cant continue playint, but dungeond and BAM killing seem like the better pve aspects. Can you do these activities for xp or will the stamina system think you are a bot because you would rather not participate in their quest system?

Your stamina at 50% is basically your base hps/mps. Anything above that is a bonus. The stamina drops so slowly that it will never reach 50% even if you complete the whole starter dungeons without pause. The pause to max btw is a couple minutes. Only way it may affect you is if you die somewhere in the dungeon and you don't have a stamina recovery pot.
You're not handicapped by stamina in any other way beyond hps/mps. Your damage stays the same and so does the rest of your stuff. You can in theory kill monsters 24/7 without replenishing your stamina, but you'll eventually need to return and sell your loot.
0%-19% Stamina - Poor Condition - HP and MP debuff, also decreased damage.
20-39% Stamina - Average Condition - No stat penalties or bonuses.
40-79% Stamina - Good Condition - Increased HP and MP
80-100% Stamina - Maximum Condition - Further increased HP and MP
When you have 100% stamina and are next to a campfire you have the ability to use Talismans. These are items which can grant very large buffs to your hp, mp, or attack. They also effect nearby party members, and last for 15 minutes.

The stamina guage. The one that starts out at 120% right in the middle of your screen. I'm assuming if you've played before, you've seen it. As you earn xp from monsters, it decreases. At 0%, you no longer gain exp until you "rest" by a campfire for an extended period of time. It's like rested xp in other games, but reverse.

no. stamina affects how much hp you have. you stand by a campfire to replenish it. has no affect on the amount of xp you earn. if you wanna be a douche, just for the hell of it then go ahead, but no matter how much you want to tiptoe, you should just go full on dick and not kid yurself. look up some info before you post about a game you obviously have no idea about. go eat some more sausage.
I updated my earlier post with the actual conditions affected by stamina. You only go below 20% in realistic conditions if you die. Your stamina seems to replenish in a campfire by 1% every 3 seconds or so. Thats about 5 minutes from death to full. There are however potions that can bump your stamina to max and NPCs in settlements that you can pay to have it restored.

In actual conditions it is really hard to drop below 80%, because campfire camps dot the whole area, plus you have your portable ones. You can easily grab 20% by the time it takes to deliver quests and get new ones near a settlement campfire. Regaining in a portable campfire seems a bit slower, but not by much.
