Looks kinda cool, but what stops an army like that (designed to take on a castle) from just steamrolling small towns? I'm not saying open world PvP should be taken out (as the PvE looks pretty meh), but are there any checks and balances in this game so say a small guild don't spend months building something only for it to be destroyed in minutes (or even hours)?

Tanks? Where have you seen this? That's new to me, but I admit I haven't watched every video or read every write up. As for the mix of fantasy and tech.... You got a thing against steampunk?

Actually, I'll ammend that, they are more like ridable cannons. It's in the OP's video.

I don't have anything against steam punk but I suppose I'm more used to stuff like this as "steampunk"

I'd love a completley steampunk mmo. However, I thought Archeage was more fantasy. I'm kind of getting that it's art design and concept is sort of a mash-up of a variety of things. I mean, Didn't I see a video for a disco in the game? I'm not sure if this is just a promotional thing or if it's in the game but just not my taste:

My god this game is going to make insane amounts of money. Please release it before the mayan calender is up. It is insane the powe they are giving to the player. Wish to god Trion would watch this and take a lesson. There is nothing like this.

The more power given to the players the more some players will use said power to get advantage and gank/ grief the rewst of the world to destroy it.

Seriously canons vs a castle sure cool but when one guild gets those army of canons first and uses them to steam roll every other house / farm / minor comunity this are somewhat less fun ( for those being griefed anyway.)

I may well be wrong but this just looks like a prettier Darkfall (darkfall 2.0?)

As far as the 'Disco' effect, if enough people are dancing together the light effects and even a record player can appear.

@Sovrath yeah I guess steam punk is a stretch. Wasn't really trying to say it is steam punk, more like if steam punk is okay, then why would the canons/tanks be so out of left field. I mean, castle building and siege warfare changed dramatically with the emergence of canons 1500-1750s. Look at some of the designs for siege weapons by Leonardo da Vinci from that period (and gliders based on the shape of bird wings). The stuff in AA looks like a stylized "early renaissance" fantasy setting to me (with many fantastic embellishments of eastern and western designs). The tanks are just mobile artillery platforms. Clearly, they are not like a totally realistic weapon but they are not completely out of the realms of possibilities. Must admit I would like better if other players or mounts had to move the canons though.

As for the disco lights that's actually IG and happens when enough characters in an area emote /dance (or whatever the actual command is). I admit its cheesy, but I see potential there. It would be awesome if devs take it to deeper places, like say triggering a natural event, if players danced while forming a circle and all moving in a giant clockwise or counterclockwise fashion. Maybe too politically incorrect, but I think it would be cool for IG RP/religion if players could have things like "rain dances" where the dance emote would actually trigger related animations (e.g., storm clouds, lightning, wind, rain)....

I still see far more to like than the things that don't fit. It's a pity the stuff bothers you so much but games can't appeal to everybody, I suppose.

PS CyclopsSlayer beat me to the disco light explanation. Hate typing on my phone xD

Hell even EVE's new ground war game will probably be played on some corner of AA.. So even space stuff is in this game.

Sure some of you don't read much of anything, but the guy aboves strawberry story is just one of the endless possibilities in this game. A hungry adventurer stumbles into a farm and eats some fruit, angry farmer yells and attracts a nearby pestering spider that chases him up a tree. Adventurer kills spider and clears debt.

Its almost obnoxious how many different things you can do in this game. Sadly.. Without a north american server. I fear this game will never be playable by the likes of me. :(

spare me...i'd go a bit further than "not excited" to say it looks like a crap game.

sandbox type MMO with open world PvP is the suck. sure all you ganker kiddies (all 30 of you) will love it.

c'mon name one MMO like this that was worth a damn. Even Eve, arguably the only half ass successful one just has its niche player base. this game will come and go, prob just like mortal online or other similar craptastic games.

not to mention, you fall madly in love with this game and its hardly even out of the gate? it could be a year of promices followed by a toss into the vaporware bin.

I should be the one "sickened" lol

    Mortal Online? Seriously?

Your the second person I've directly seen compare this game to that POS. *BIG* difference between MO and AA: $35million budget and JAKE SONG (lead dev behing Lineage)! The two games don't even deserve to be grouped together in the same sentence.

AA, as it exists now (not all the way finished, missing half its races, whole world is not ready yet, etc.) is still far more playable than most AAA mmo's that are released. There are a few points of the game I could do without, but the tools and features that already are IG and functional are something I haven't seen in a AAA title in a looooong time.

Frankly, if people don't like this game, I guess that's good. Just stay away and let the rest of us enjoy its gorgeous world and open-ended gameplay. Have fun riding the rails in the FOTM themepark. I'll be too busy building castles, sailing, climbing trees, fighting PK's, RP'ing, etc. to even notice you're not there ;P

+1 to all of this lol. Im with you bro. I hope people like the above poster sticks with his WOW, Rift POS and stay the hell out of the world of AA. Wouldent want them there anyway.

So if you have homes and the like on the first 2 conts your shit should be fine. thats what im lead to beleive anyway. If im worng someone please link soure of info leading to the contrary.
