Well i've mentioned GW2 hopefully bringing a change in the now standard Mo Fare when i first saw the potential with dynamic questing and the subsequent dulling down of standard quest chains which has been the default for many a moon. Now after following a few indie projects it does seem that at least indies are trying something different and hopefully GW2 will be one of the biggest PC hits ever, other devs will at least attempt someting different so i am stoked that 2012 is laden with possibilities and too many Alpha's/Beta's to cope with and that is not includeing Archeage as i think that will land in 2013 anyway.

I agree with the OP that we'll see features copied fairly soon. However, you don't need to have a great game, not even a good game to have your features copied. After all, the entire PvE gameplay of GW2 is seem to be based of a feature of another game that is not doing particularly well, WARhammer.

Bottom line. Yes, features will be copied. No, copying GW2 doesn't make it a great game by itself.

This is true, though I hope that if GW2 is successful and companies do start to copy it, the industry won't be stuck on copying the success of GW2 like it did with WoW.

Why? This copying bring new ideas to the table and develope them to better ideas. This proccess apply for everything. The problem with current copying is that the ideas behind it are dull, boring, static. Especialy the dynamic content and the "more action oriented combat" should be the future and I'm sure that it can be add to it.

yes but when they announce their intention on adding it RIGHT at the same time as a successful press beta.... It comes off as very desperate and a lot like trying to ride the coat tails of GW2.

i may be ostrisized for this, but whatever,  in my eyes, gw2 is taking the good elements of the past 10 years or so, and combining them together to make a more complete game.   if and when other game developers realize the success gw2 will have, then sure they will try to implement the successful parts of the game into their game(s).  but in my estimation gw2 is not the beginning,  but rather the end of an era. will it be an awesome game?  all signs point to yes.  but, after a few years of games copying, experimenting on things they've done/improved on from previous games, something new will come out and blow them out of the water.  that's the beauty of progression.  gw2 will (supposidly) give us everything we've been waiting for.  but other developers and games have the right and hopefully the creativity to expand on the ideas futher.  it's not even out yet, but it doenst take a rocket scientist to realizse that this game has the potential to be a classic game when we all sit down and look back on the history of mmo's.

I didnt say GW2 was the first one with a public event system. In my opinion that was really rift as I have no knowledge of the WaR ones.. I only played a 2 weeks trial and have little memory. Rift however took it to another level that in my eyes failed... this might be different now but when I was in the beta for Rift(not speaking of the starter zone I know that was hyped up and rift crazy) the rifts opened up on top of your quest hub and you were the only one in the area.. so you couldn't play. You couldn't solo the rift and you couldn't quest... you were stuck. This was thier original fatal flaw from my POV. So a year later we find out the truth of what GW2's events are and they are quite polished and I think ALMOST perfect. My original point was right after it was shown just how amazing the DEs were Tera comes up with an idea for future content with the same model.

in summation.. copying and refining 1 yr later is fine, jumping ont he band wagon 1 week later... not cool.

Hmm this is interesting, when a peanut butter jelly Sandwhich was first introduced, was it new? Or was it old because bread, peanut butter, and jelly where existing seperately? That question could go towards new and innovative as well but I'm only curious. this is a learning experience for me so bare with me.

I might get banned for this. - Rizel Star.

I'm not afraid to tell trolls what they [need] to hear, even if that means for me to have an forced absence afterwards.

P2P LOGIC = If it's P2P it means longevity, overall better game, and THE BEST SUPPORT EVER!!!!!(Which has been rinsed and repeated about a thousand times)

Common Sense Logic = P2P logic is no better than F2P Logic.

To be honest i hope we get clones.  DE seem to have a lot more flex room then quests and work better with open world and sandboxes mechanics.

Meh, you beat me to it.

so I had to add this.. I am in an alpha of a F2P game, obviously I cannot say which only that it will most likely be F2P pay to win type.... anyways towards the end of the starter area there is a boss that uses the red circle dont stand in me thing, exactly like the GW2 one. Not a big deal but I thought it was interesting.. all in all I like the red circle but it does, I hate to say it... but it "ruins the emersion" a bit. I don't want them to change it because then you end up with needing extra help.. like deadly boss mods in WoW or wtf was that one they broke fast that put the circles on the ground for you.

Calm down guys lol. I get it you are excited but let's wait and see how GW2 doing 2 months post-release before making a thread like this hahaha.

Currently Playing: SSFIV AE, SFxTekken, SWTOR, WoW. Waiting for: GW2, Resident Evil 6.

Well, if enough people pay attention to the innovations of GW2 and try to emulate them, I'm not so sure that's a bad thing, especially with the idea of dynamic events, and the elimination of tank/heal/dps.  Obviously I want to see innovation continue in the industry, but most of all, I want to see games that enhance immersion and give the player the feeeling that he/she is really there.

How many months/years do you think it will be until guild wars 2 inevitably has its own clones with features such as WvWvW pvp (I know GW2 wasn't the first to do this, but if it is successful, when will games start including WvWvW in their games again?), underwater combat, dynamic events, and all of the other features that will make GW2 a big hit?

Think I will wait and see how well Guild Wars 2 does before I start worrying about "clones"...

  • Hmmm what do Companions remind you all of?  Henchmen?  which really harkens back further than GW1 to Solo games.

Basically all Devs take the kewl stuff and figure out how to incorporate it into their own games, some with more success than others.

So LOTRO is letting you take Skirmish Soldiers into the landscape and SWTOR is discussing Dynamic Events and GW2 has mentioned that mounts might be in an expansion.

Guess my point is that we are lucky that there are many different games out there and many different implementations of the mechanics so we can all pick the games right for us.
