Those familiar with skill trees will find slightly different take on things. As you adventure and gain character levels your skill tree levels as well. Spending a point may gain you a skill, but skill Sword Swing 1, while awesome at level 1, would rather suck at level 50. Normally a Skill trees level will be the same as a players level, but player can pay to unlearn a tree and learn a new one, the new tree starts at L1 and needs to be leveled up anew.

I understand the guide correctly you start with 3 skill points and gain another every even character level. Each skill tree has 13 active skills and 5 passive skills.

The 10 schools are as follows; (names may change with localization) (pets are not in game yet)

Combat, the ability of destructive attack skill that can crush many foes at once. Melee attacks primarily.

Conjury, the ability that does not deal direct magic damage to enemies, but instead weakens and debilitates them. Buff/Debuffs and Spirit pet?(not in game yet)

Fortification, the ability that boosts your health and defense, allowing better protect you and your allies

Will, the ability to inflict severe magic damage to your enemies or prevent magic damage to your allies

Death, the ability that summons the power of the dead to deal strong magic damage to enemies and cross the border between life and death at will. DoTs, Debuffs, Feign Death and a Undead Pet?(not in game yet)

Wild, the ability that allows you to chase and kill your enemy with deadly ranged attacks. Ranged attacks and a Tamed pet?(not in game yet)

Magic, the ability that grants you powerful, traditional magic spells with great versatility. Basic Elemental magics, single target and AoE.

Assassination(Calling?), the ability that enables you to approach enemies quietly and deal fatal damage through assassination techniques. Typical rogue skill sets, stealth, crits

Artistry, the ability that boosts your combat performance by increasing movement speed or recovery speed. Typical Bard set, enhancers, recovery and run buffs

Devotion, the ability that increases the viability of your allies by healing and reviving them. Heals and buffs

Skill sets also combine effects, either from a single player or across a party. For instance Will skills usage builds charges that some Conjury skills will concume for increased effects.
