Its funcom, don't fool yourself. The game will bomb, which is why no one cares.
and this is why i am glad there is no hype, funcom have done the hpye thing with games in the past. they know it does not work in the end. no hype no major let down, unlike GW2 all hype. both games i am really wanting to play.
TSW like the idea could be good, will see.
GW2 damn the game sounds so good need to play want to play, i just feel i am going to be let down.
Also not a big IP game-AoC, TOR, even GW2 has a brand recognition that brings extra hype.
Game is going to bring the much needed resfreshing changes to the MMO world that is sought after by many of us veterans that are bored of the same ol same ol.
"The King and the Pawn return to the same box at the end of the game"
Seriously who cares for another subscription based mmo when gw2 is on the way and its b2p.
Because GW2 isn't perfect, or for everyone, that's something you're going to have to accept. Fanboys sometimes.
The point is that he believes buy-to-play is a superior model to subscription. Calling GW2 superior to TSW is something you through in to the mix.
What's the difference? B2P doesn't mean crap to someone who doesn't want to play the game, and would rather play TSW. Read his words again "Seriously who cares about another subscription based MMO when GW2 is on the way?" that's saying hey play my game, don't play the one you're looking forward to...
This is a TSW thread not somewhere to go advertise GW2!!!!

I would say GW2 is mostly hyped by players not the developers. The developers has been so transparent with their work and the amount of footage you can watch and read, this hype is not based on basless assumptions/hype.
Because GW2 is hyped so much, its getting more attention than other upcoming mmo games. Funcom so far to me hasn't really been transparent with their development. TSW's hpe is hyped by the developers, not the players. Their hype is is based on baseless assumptions, I have yet to see more or less footage content from Funcom.
I can't say TSW is a good game or bad, but the lack of information coming from Funcom is so far based on their word. Until they're transparent, I have yet to make my decision on this game. Hopefully this game is a success, I don't want to see any game fail.
Also, isn't like 3/4 of the games buy to play. Counterstrike, Call of Duty, Battlefield 3 is B2P, they should charge monthly fee for online multiplayer. RPGs should be charged for monthly sub fee because we can use that money for next upcoming game or expansion content. Someone could point out many reasons to charge sub fee on current gen B2P games. B2P is always superior than sub fee, but that does not mean A is B and B is A.
Well, I did not play AoC, but a lot of people seem to feel burned by it and FunCom....So they think TSW will be the same. The delay could be viewed both ways, one that they will not release it in a unfinished form, or that it is proof that it isn't ready and will not be ready....I would trend towards the former.
I do not see a reason why they cannot deliver a good MMO, especially with more experience behind them, the only thing I worry about is if they can mesh their concepts together to make it fun/exciting and all work nicely together.
I am interested in the game, but I also worry for them that they are going to get too close to GW2, and maybe lose out on a lot of people trying their game, that may not if GW2 is releasing very close to TSW...I will probably get both, that was my plan, I hate the delay, but I think it's better to release a better product, games don't recover from bad releases usually.
Every thread I see on the main page is for TERA/GW2, two of the most overly hyped games. With the impending release of this game why are not more people talking about this game? I for one am really looking forward to it.
Problem is more like, ArenaNet ,En Masse ,Funcom.
Their problem is their reputation which is kinda bad these days.

Absolutley understand this. The problem here is you will load TSW up and it will be a Funcom product = you will be pissed that you wasted your money on trash.
Wait for it to go Ftp. Then skip it since it went Ftp because it sucked. = saves you money.

Yea.
AoC after getting initial horde of players after it went f2p is getting deserted again. Blood & Gore new pvp servers are empty , many people left and especially at december-january people started dropping again.
Why?
Each patch bring new bugs or bring back old bugs. Gamebreaking ones as well (game kicking ppl from raids , latency spikes , bugged AH ,etc)
Don't believe me? Go at official forums. EU or NA does not matter.
Not to even mention still broken sieges - that many years after release and it was one of main game features...
It's Funcom. As interesting as this game looks both gameplay and lorewise, I can't help but be leery of it. I got burned by AoC, and as the saying goes, "Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me."
I do hope it turns out to be a good game. I'll probably be getting GW2, but I'm incredibly sick and tired of fantasy games, and it would be nice to have an alternative which is more than just a WoW-alike in space.
Have you realised that the whole industry is switching to F2P hybrid model? How many subscription only games are active at this point? More than 5?
Pretty much all the major MMORPG developers have switched to F2P hybrid or planning to. Don't be surprised if by the end of 2014 there won't be a single P2P only MMORPG active.

Was that supposed to be an insult?
But you have to consider that all those games that went F2P werent developed to do that. They went F2P when they couldn't generate or retain a significant player base.
As far as the initial post in the quote, AO and AoC are failures largely because of the way FunCom has treated it's loyal paying customers over the years. They have a proven track record of taking and taking from their player base and giving absolutely NOTHING back.
What gives a company the right to charge a sub for their games? I would like to think it's because they use that money to continuously add to and improve uppon said game. I, along with others, will continue to fund this game, but if I am expected to play and pay in the months/years to come, then you as the company need to keep the game current and relevant.
FunCom does not do this. AO went years and years with no real updates. no additional content. But they collected those monthly subs. . Then finally, a couple years back, they put out this pissy little update that has some gear upgrades and soem quests and instances to get them from. This after years of nothing. It was way past time where FC owed it's paying customers something. So yeah, they delivered this cheap shet exuces for a content upgrade and called it a "booster" (a what?) and had the nerve to charge 20 bucks for it. Really?
And now look at the next game due out. They think they got something so special and unique that they can chage 3 times?
No thanks. Good bad or meh, TSW will be one thing for sure. Expensive.
Oh and the game you buy at launch, will be the same game you play forever. Dont expect updates and fixes. That costs money.

? Now this is just stupid and a lie: if AoC is any indication, then there'll be a hell of a lot of updates, patches and content additions.
Whats there to hype? I can't support a game that has the last 3 points so its a pass,
Yeah. This + lack of information / footage. I won't be jumping on this boat until other people have played it extensively and were allowed to give their opinions. i.e. a few months post launch.
I will be playing this because I love Ragnar Tornquist's storytelling / writing abilities. So....whether I end up liking or loathing (or somewhere in between) the game, I will be reporting back here.....especially for YOU! (Yes....I'm e-flirting on a forum...I'm naughty.)
Anywhoozle....I will be reporting back on the pros and cons of TSW. I already said that. Oh my....I got flustered. I will give my "official" review about 3 months post-launch, per your suggestion.

This.
As much as I hate to jump on the Funcom hate bandwagon, I've been dealing with this company for nine years now and my experience has taught me to expect the worst. I genuinely do not believe that they are capable of producing a quality product, of maintaining said product in a satisfactory manner or of providing adequate support for it.
Of course, there's always a chance that they will prove me wrong
This game is underhyped because it is funcom. This will release the same as AoC if not in worst condition. This game is just a cash n grab by funcom. This company has tarnished its reputation already and that is why it is not appealing to the masses. The failure of AoC is why more people are not jumping at this game.

You know what? I really hope they do, because the concept of TSW looks great. But I question the company's ability to deliver exactly what they promise.
I hardly think it's under-hyped but you have to take into account that both Guild Wars 2 and Tera are in beta, so we're at least getting a taste of what to expect. Another thing to consider is the fact that you're not looking at a traditional fantasy setting and for many players, that's a deal breaker. I think it sound interesting but if I'm being honest, I'm still okay with the whole Everquest/WoW/Guild Wars type of setting. This, I'm not so sure about.

Alright, I'll give you this much: I should have been more specific about my references. I admit my experience with AoC is virtually non-existant and I wasn't clear. My experiecne comes from the other title.
That said, take a look at the game that most people are refernceing when speaking about FC's history and why they don't trust FC. They are all citing AoC. So While I cannot claim they didn't properly update the game, others are saying they didn't properly deliver.

Let's internet
I wouldn't worry about GW2 release, it doesn't have a release date for a reason (aka won't get released any time soon).
On the other hand, TSW release date with so little actual gameplay to be shown is worrisome.
AO = failed = F2P
AoC = failed = F2P
TSW = save money, wait for F2P

After getting 1st degree burns from AoC (yes i brought the CE) I have forced myself not to even look at this game until 6 months after release.
