People should go right on ahead and be hyped if they want to. There are far too many miserable sods in this world that just cannot handle seing others being excited about something. Misery loves company.
A sign that hype has gone to your head, is a display of ignorance toward what people are trying to say.
I agree, however generalising 'all GW2' players as this is no better than the above, as with trying to insult posters with 'clever' insults ye - its just divisive and perpetuating the problem at the end of the day.
rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar
Sigh - if anything post like this shows that there is a long way to avoid fans go crazy with wild expectations.
I think GW2 is already the highest hype game ever on this site and then you want another scale. What about getting real , and realise the real job is not building unreasonable hype, but educating fans in what actual to exspect from this game. Some thing hardcore fans of this community have done for years.
sigh again!
Wayt untill you get your hands on the game, if you're a true MMO player, you're atleast going to like the game enough to play it for a couple of months, but chances are most likely that you're going to love it as it will enhance your MMO experience with something new.
Take that from someone with hands on experience... Fun PvE, awesome PvP and lots of more nice things..
And if you have been observant- you would have know i have been a steady poster here in GW2 forum for several years, and you wouldn't be a second in doubt that i will love the game and have really high expectations to the game! I have been defending and praising ArenaNets decisions here, when most people posting here where clueless about what they where up to.
But wanting higher hype , when hype is so high already, is simply forgeting how much work there actual have been and still is in telling people what to expect, and avoiding unrealistic hype. I told you to get real , not because i don't expect the game to be good, or even the best for a very long while, but because i don't think what you did in the original post, contibutes to anything but loosing groundcontrol. Praise can be done in many ways, and i don't dismiss thats what you do.
I am just telling you that imho wanting to break a scale that MMOrpg.com have posted never have been that high up, sounds like fanboism, and instead get working cloth on and be a true fan and help the community to set their expectations right.
It's not about winning a prize it's about showcasing inconsistency based on personal bias. As an example I felt the same way about TOR hype as I do about GW2 hype or AA hype or TSW hype or any other flavor of the month.

I certainly hope you're not referring to me, what do i have to be bitter about? I enjoyed the time I spent in TOR then moved on, now I'm watching GW2 and a few others, doesn't change the fact I can't stand people who generalize posters to fit their needs and petty posting habits.

Indeed... I hope this hype is confined to this site at least. Does anybody know how hyped people even are outside this site?
Well around one million people signed up for a beta that only had a 48 hour window. I'd say people outside of MMORPG.com have heard of it and like what they have heard.

TC have you played GW2 yet? Also by your post i am judging you have played the game and have a max level character already. So i am lvl 80 what do i do now? just grind WvWvW and BGs with no hope for a new gear?
If your only reason for playing an mmo is to grind gear (even when you're not enjoying it) then Guildwars 2 might not be to your liking as that's one of the things ArenaNet seems to me moving away from. They are aiming to make an mmo that is actually enjoyable to play rather than being filled with huge amounts of tedious boring gameplay whose only hook is addiction to collecting gear (which is all basicly the same anyway). They just dont seem to be particularly interested in rewarding players for enduring boredom for long periods of time........but then there isnt a sub fee so there is no reason for them to waste the players time like other mmos do. I guess they could have stuck the tired old "carrot on a stick" crap into their game like nearly every mmo has been doing for years, but fortunately they want to make a game that relies on good gameplay instead. Phew!
However if you do play GW2 and enjoy the time it takes to reach level 80 and then after several months you run out of stuff to do and start feeling bored then the answer is simple. You stop playing it (happy in the knowledge that you have got better value for money than any other mmo can offer) and play something else instead and come back later (free of charge of course) whenever you think there is something else worth experiencing. You dont have to live there. It's just a game.
Anyway who knows? Maybe after playing GW2 you might find it difficult going back to the old grinding mmos anyway as the terrible gameplay they offer might become more apparent in comparison.
This post has no place int his thread. Too logical. I really liked the part in green.

What it is is a disgust for double standards, we all know how you've posted about TOR, you know how you've posted about TOR, now you're trying to call out those who do it to GW2.
I'm all for calling out misinformation, calling out those who toss around the labels fanboi or hater, but only if you do it because you believe in it, instead of doing it just for certain games you may like.
If i didn't know your history I would have +1000 your post.

Just a game????? But I need a real life replacement!

oh wheesht, go read my entire post history rather than trying to prove a poster is this type of person or that by plucking out 'evidence', Dont you get it, posting about other posters to disprove anything rather than debating points to hand is what I was talknig about above, its just a cycle of negativity.

Yep ok you win im an inconsistent TOR 'hater' and a GW2 'Fanboi' whos points about people being nagative is invalidated by your carefull and brilliant investigation of my character. Well done. And yes I have had a look at your history, ooh maybe i should call double-double standards to further this debate? Or maybe stick to the bloody thread and join in with something a bit more meaningful and postive..
'If i didn't know your history I would have +1000 your post.'
oh so you agree, however you must attack because of your negative opinion on a poster. Yes thats how to solve issues with forum debates breaking down..

The hypemeter is to low, with all the hype around this game it should have been the first game topping the 9.+
Never before have so many people been looking forward to a game, never before have so many people put their trust and last hope for an MMO intoo a single game. But most of all, never before has a game had so few negative reactions, because despite all the little criticisme out there, there are so many things that will make the game fun for almost everyone.
Now lets all try and get the hype-meter above the 9, let everyone that hasn't hyped the game yet cast their votes....
(No, i dont think the game is perfect, far from that, but its the best game this genre has seen since WOW took the genre to the mainstream)
I dont know how perfect the game is going to be,but i know that subscription model is like Chuck model of Sub Norris.
Well this is already a fun thread . I wanted to say a few things...
First, I don't really support trying to artificially increase the "hype" number on this site. It's already really high, and starting a fan campaign to raise it isn't going to make a difference in the long run...it's just a number.
Second, to the people saying that you shouldn't try to increase the hype for GW2 any more because it's already really hyped. You do realize that the OP was just trying to increase the "hype number" on this site right? However silly that request is, increasing the hype number in no way actually increases the real hype of a game...once again, it's just a number.
Third, I really don't see why so many people are annoyed that there is a lot of excitement around GW2. This is the same "hype generalization" BS that goes on with every game, where there is a group of people that just wants to stamp out excitement surrounding a game regardless of why people are excited.
And well, that's silly. Sometimes games deserve excitement (Skyrim), sometimes they don't (WAR). Trying to just apply a general rule that all excitement = hype and thus must be destroyed is a rather silly philosophy...special cases people, everything is different.
And when it comes to GW2...I really think that it's looking like the game deserves excitement. There's TONS of media out there that gives people a pretty good idea of how it will play. Hardly anything that ANet has promised has not been demonstrated in one way or another.
Finally, if you truly believe that GW2 is overhyped and you feel that you need to point this out, then by all means do. But please provide an actual ARGUMENT. Just saying it's overhyped...because...isn't enough. You need to bring some reason to the table and then we can have a discussion. All of the supposedly "overhyped" fans have lots of arguments why it's okay to be excited about this game. Where are the arguments in favor of why it's NOT okay to be excited about this game?

That was what I was getting at in a roundabout way, the game looks good, the feeling is that it probably will be good. There is just no need for this generalisation and personal insulting and point scoring as Ive just seen. The game appears good, lets discuss the positives and negatives, its why we are here

Or maybe in the past you just got offended by something I sasid - or do you investigate every poster you see. Honestly you agreed with what I said in this post (or at least part of it)
Seeing the word morons multiple times in one post tends to make me see red. Yes I agree calling people fanboi's or belittling them due to their hype is uncalled for, and i agree it's perfectly fine to be excited for a game. But that's where my agreement with what you said ended.
And thats all you needed to say then. The only people i was referring to as morons are just that, the people who continually ignore threads of discussions and just post pure bile for the sake of it, its just ugly madness imo.

This I can get behnd, no attack or generalization of TOR or other players, no name calling, and a concise example of personal reasoning behind your hype and excitement.
Personally I don't know if GW2 is overhyped or not, I haven't played the game. Videos and hand's ons don't really tell me much either. Look at previews for every bad AAA game that came out, and you'll see lots of excitement, well scored previews etc.. it's teh name of the game really (hype).

I respect this. The wait and see approach is definitely viable. And you're right, a lot of disappointing AAA games did get lots of positive feedback from previews and even reviews.
I think in the end you really just have to decide for yourself. Based on my gaming experience, what I have seen in gameplay videos, and yes, third party feedback, I have decided that GW2 will very likely be a great game. But as always, YMMV...maybe you feel that you need to actually play the game before you make a call and that's fine.
And you may actually wind up hating me when GW2 comes out, because if it turns out to be disappointing, I will criticize it . But I won't criticize it out of any false expectations that I imagined, I will criticize it out of false expectations that the game Dev created. From what I have seen though...I don't think that's likely.

From what I've seen from the videos, GW2 seem to be at it's core Warhammer 2, if the original warhammer was a natural successor to DAoC. Tons of similarities to WAR, lots of ideas to avoid pitfalls and plenty of improvement to the original model.

I am just telling you that imho wanting to break a scale that MMOrpg.com have posted never have been that high up, sounds like fanboism, and instead get working cloth on and be a true fan and help the community to set their expectations right.
just a suggestion
It's not about winning a prize it's about showcasing inconsistency based on personal bias. As an example I felt the same way about TOR hype as I do about GW2 hype or AA hype or TSW hype or any other flavor of the month.

I certainly hope you're not referring to me, what do i have to be bitter about? I enjoyed the time I spent in TOR then moved on, now I'm watching GW2 and a few others, doesn't change the fact I can't stand people who generalize posters to fit their needs and petty posting habits.

Well around one million people signed up for a beta that only had a 48 hour window. I'd say people outside of MMORPG.com have heard of it and like what they have heard.

This post has no place int his thread. Too logical. I really liked the part in green.
RIP Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan and Paul Gray.

Now playing GW2, AOW 3, ESO, LOTR, Elite D

Journalists at times seem to be the least objective of the bunch coming out of the gate.
All that said what I hate the most is seeing people build a game up to high heavens and then tearing it down after release due to bloated expectations.

Well for what it's worth I apologize, shouldn't have hit the E&J so early I suspect.

Well then I accept, to not would also be rather ironic eh :P (and thats a joke with you not at you:)

This as well based on my ingame experience but yea this.

P2P LOGIC = If it's P2P it means longevity, overall better game, and THE BEST SUPPORT EVER!!!!!(Which has been rinsed and repeated about a thousand times)
Common Sense Logic = P2P logic is no better than F2P Logic.
From what I've seen from the videos, GW2 seem to be at it's core Warhammer 2, if the original warhammer was a natural successor to DAoC. Tons of similarities to WAR, lots of ideas to avoid pitfalls and plenty of improvement to the original model.
Nah couldn't hate you man :P, I trust your critique more than most around here actually, your reasons would be your own and I can always respect that.
