I learned that the kill X/Y?Z type of mobs quests can hide the typical Korean grind PvE is in these kind of games.
From the reviewers i understood that the combat system thats a bit more active then the normal combat, can't make up for the game feeling like a grindfest.

If you think Tera is a grind fest, please don't play mmorpg period. Its all going to be a grind fest to you.
So it uses the same kind of quests that Western MMO's does? yes indeed, and its as fast to max level as Western MMO's, but because its Korean this means its a grind?
The combat is a step in the right direction, could it be better? sure...
But seriously, if this is how you make judgement on TERA solely cause its Korean, just stay away.
I pretty confused by the OP's comment. I'm not really sure what he was expecting from Tera or any mmo for that matter. Is killing any type of mob in a game considered grinding now days?
Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...
The funny bit is that there isn't a single MMO out there that is any different, Korean or otherwise. Well, SW:TOR personal quest line is different in its single player presentation and GW2 "promises" to be different, but that's it. The funny bit is that the only game that might actually be different is TSW and those investigation kind of quests.
If people need to use aim bots to play this game, then they are in serious need of a new brain..
And to the OP..
WAKE UP, SWTOR which promised to do away with the generic leveling quests didn't even try to, every other quest has the same if not more KILL x ESCORT y as every other MMO in existence..
Tera is just going to be the next Dark and Light if the lawsuits are anything to go by.
You mean the dead end lawsuit that didn't even stop the game from launching in Korea for the past year?
you mean grind where u can get to max lvl faster than other mmorpgs?
It's Korean. No matter what, it will aways be stigmatized.
Yet no one stigmatizes archages or GW2, did they do the some thign to Aion? or it this just Tera?
Okay, I've GOT to ask. When you say grind, OP (or anyone, for that matter), do you mean quests that ask you to kill 10 of something, OR....like MapleStory or some other grindy game....ask you to kill HUNDREDS of something, because if so....I agree with you, THAT is a grind. Killing 10 or this and 10 of that is just "WoW level questing." Being asked to kill hundreds of something for a quest, I'm sorry, but that is an effin' GRIND. And certainly some free to play games use that tactic. I hate it.
What constitues a GRIND in your mind? (rhyme unintended)

I don't see how an aimbot would be effective for most classes. Since you need to aim a bit ahead for most skills you use, because of the animation "cast time".
"If I had a d*ck, I'd go get laid. But we can do that next best thing... Let's kill people."
Tera is not grindy at all. in fact, leveling feels very casual, is very easy and fast. i've found every Western MMO i've played all the way till Swtor way more grindy than Tera.
Koreans have vastly different laws to the EU and NA.
Ya... NA law even more fcked up and complicated... Also their case has no base. According to the first case any stole hard and soft ware were already taken away. So there is nothing to sue about any more beside them trying to scare people.
and how exactly is that any different to non-korean pve quest grind in 'other' kind of games? This topic really doesnt make any sense at all. If its korean grinder without quest = its bad. If its western game with quest grind = good. But if its korean game with quest grind = bad... because its korean? or because it uses the very same system as just about every other mmo? it really is confusing :P
The company is not sued in EU. Regardless, I foresee the same lack NCsoft had on this issue as in the US, the land of lawsuits with a drop of a hat.
I just finished killing 360 salamanders in LOTRO for just a single deed. Korean grind? Please lol, nothing beats westerners in inventing grinds. WoW reputation grind anyone? SW:TOR warzone PvP grind? Should I go on?
If they release the game in NA and the EU then yes, they can be sued. Especially since they have an NA office.
Regardless of how the legal part will proceed, this is not the point of this thread. You can make a new one to discuss the legal issue or necro one of the plenty if you so wish.
happy to hear your solution on how to level without grinding quests/killing mobs/players.
the essential game of any mmo is: go out, get quest, kill stuff, level.
the only game that wouldn't do this is one where you didn't actually level at all. and then everyone would complain there's no progression.
blame the impatience to be at endgame. not the "grind".
I should have used the word repetitive.
-they overused the killquest type, which feels repetitive very fast, quests that ask you to fetch some kind of item that requires you to find and fight a way to your goal are way less repetitive. Sadly according to the beta testers, 90% of the quests are either killquests, or kill untill item drops quests.
So while the combat seems more active then in other games, the type of quests they have overused makes it grindy and repetitive. Some other games have more randomness in their world design that makes the repetitivness less obvious.
This opinion is based on what the beta testers said and showed in their videos.

Any examples of those games where the grind is not that obvious? (posting this while in the process of killing 360 tomb raiders for a deed in LOTRO)
Actually it is the place since it ties in pretty nicely with all the "will it fail/succeed" threads.
