I was rather undecided about TERA, I had misgivings and was considering not pre ordering or picking it up for release. I tried playing it two weeks ago in a closed beta and I enjoyed it quite a bit but with the keyboard + mouse set up it was rather annoying after a while, hurt my wrist.
Then I decided to give it another shot with the Curse beta give away, this time I got my PS3 controller to emulate itself as an xbox 360 controller and gave TERA a shot with it. First off the game immediately recognized my controller and automatically updated the UI to represent that, auto assigning things to it. Setting which buttons activated which abilities was easy, the game played like it was a well polished action game at last!
I know its probably been said before, but I just wanted to state once again how different this game plays, and I already enjoyed it quite a bit, but now I can't stop playing. Its an extremely well polished game with a very interesting twist with several innovative features and several well selected cherry picked ideas that really come together like a well crafted recipe.
Can't wait for launch now! Hope to see some of you in game!

Don't you still have to accept quests using the cursor since you have to hit the button on the quest explaination screen? You did the last time I tried the controller and that is not something you do in an action game.
Update: just tested the game with my PS3 controller using the 360 emulation and yes it works without having to do any work but other then that it's no different then using any controller for an MMO. Alls they did was add Gamepadder into the game with a lot less customization options. They didn't actually change the game to support a more controller UI or anything which makes using the controller a little pointless. Exactly like I told them a year ago.
I've been playing Tera exclusively on controller from day 1 and it's really great. It doesn't feel as good if you are Archer class, but it seems all the other classes work pretty well with it.
You still obviously need the keyboard to type, but I play the game 90% with the controller laying back and relaxed. A simple free PC to Controller 3rd party support program will allow you to overlap keyboard commands to your gamepad. I have the map command mapped with L1+R3, and the quest mapped with L2+L3. L2 is also the button I use for my wake up attack, which is (hopefully) the leasted used button that every class has, so you can overlap other commands with it. I beleve I have loot/talking to NPC mapped to L1 as well.
Good luck with controller when some outlaw tries to gank you
But yes, game works perfectly with controller. And if you are just grinding away. No reason not to kick back and relax a bit.
BTW - if you want to play perfecr controller MMO than its Rusty Hearts - not really MMO but lot of fun
I don't claim to be the best, but trust me when I say I've probably done more Tera. PvP then all of you guys combined.
Controller works fine. There's no reason to lose to a player using a mouse and keyboard unless you use using a specific class, which I mentioned above. Tera is not like other MMOs.
Actually i started to play the game with my xbox360 controller, it felt like slow camera moving and less responsive then the mouse and keyboard.
If your intention is to play just laying down in the sofa thats for you but if going to pvp from my exp you have no chance.

Just not worth my time anymore.
My controller isn't slow at all at responding... dueled a lot of people and won every time...
I use a PS3 controller emulating an xbox 360 controller... my system is even rather old too... functions perfectly.
Never had a problem once I started using it, game was actually far easier to play and navigate and actiave skills quickly...
There is no down side.
edit: did you turn up the sensitivity all the way?
Also it occurs to me most of you assume the abilities will acitvate based off where the camera is facing, while that is true with a mouse and keyboard it is not with a controller.
Almost all my abilities activated where my character was facing, making how fast the controller turns irrelevant
yes i tried with the sensitive at max, and it felt like it wasnt enough.
