Mourning Devs post peoples IP

http://www.realmsoftorment.net/forums/showthread.php3?s=&threadid=17390

How would you guys feel about this? Scroll down a little to my name. I got banned for being OT on my thread I created. It seems I questioned the vaporness of the game to much and made them mad. Ashame I really looked forward to playing this game but not anymore.

Well actually, I woulden't mind about the IP address being posted if its partially shown.

Yeah I'm surprised that some people show ban reasons in public I gotta look up into this a little more since I don't have the time to read entirley on this.

  • Bama1267Bama1267 Member UncommonPosts: 1,822
That was a tad harsh I would say. I looked into mourning as well and like you said.... very vague. Sounds cool, not sure how I would like the bloodline or not. But guess what? I wont try it for the same reasons you mentioned in that post.  Too many games that actually show you what they are about to have to take a risk on a game that shows you nothing but ideas of what they are doing.
  • LreguizrLreguizr Member Posts: 207

Well actually, something similar happened to Jumpgate community last year. The devs there decided to give everyone 3 strikes and your perm banned from the game. Everytime you use a swearing word on the public in-game chat, that was a strike.

And not only that, they had general chat section in JG gutted out as well due to the flame wars that broke out.

They posted my entire IP. Is this bad? And they encouraged people to mess with it as well.

Now thats a bit too harsh there. Especially with a .mil domain.

    That really sucks.

  • GrunchGrunch Member Posts: 493
Shouldnt they have to ask me before posting somthing like that to the public?

"I'm sorry but your mmo has been diagnosed with EA and only has X number of days to live."

whoa, that is a bit harsh, one of the dumbest rules there was this one

"8) All of you are asked to report to me, board moderators or chatroom admins the posts (or a link to the place if it's outside our boards) and chatroom discussions (supported with mirc logs) you think broke any of the previous rules. Anyone who'll post right under a bad language/flaming post without reporting it first will get a ban too."

somone got banned for not following that rule....and look at the part in brackets..." (or a link to the place if it's outside our boards)"...they expect to be able to ban you from something you say somewhere else....now i would say that is messed up..

I was thinking about buying mourning...but not now....Mourning sucks, try and ban me for that, and im not even registerd to their site...MUHAHAHAHA

  • Zaxx99Zaxx99 Member Posts: 1,761

Actually Grunch.. You might want to contact some legal aid....

I'm not real sure, but them posting your IP address in that fashion without your consent may be ILLEGAL.  Especially if they were telling other people to harass you/cause you harm.

I dunno.  From the higher ups of Mourning, this is pretty ummmm pathetic to say the least.  If they act like this on their forums, is this really a game I'd wanna play and have them watching over and controlling?

    Very sad.

They do not need your permission to post IP addy's. It is frowned upon yes, but not illegal.

You got what you deserved.I highly doubt it'll happen but I hope their lawyers have a field day with you.

    Sithos, don't be a moron.

If they place a public forum... people have a freedom of speech.  They can make rules and ban people from their boards sure.  But there are no legal grounds for them to use lawyers on.  LOL.  However them posting information such as someones IP address and telling people to feel free to attack it is beyond the line.  I suppose you also think it would be okay for them to post information such as his name, social security number, phone number, address, and where he works and tell people to publicly attack and vandalize him too right?  Not a lot of difference really the way I see it.

Regardless, this is certainly no way for a development team to be acting a week before they are supposed to be releasing a big new mmo game.  Wouldn't their time and effort be better spent giving their fans some new screenshots or in-game videos or just working on the game as opposed to posting attacks, bans, and ip addresses of its board members?

I'm starting to think more and more that their big game has turned sour and will be canceled.  This is ridiculous and makes no sense at all if they are actually trying to win over fans to their "great game" soon to be released to the public.

Oh, but zax, stop speaking about their mods that way, you shall be smited by the mourning gods who will sue you for anything they can find!, RUN ZAX!!!! RUUUN!::::06::

Btw, i tottaly agree with you (see, there's a kernel of intellect in my post)

  • RudnocRudnoc Member Posts: 208

All of you need to grow up. Grunch made a big mistake and is going to have to eat it now.

First off you are making pretty serious accusations about it being vaporware without any proof. I suggest you should get a lawyer because I think it looks like they are planning to sue you for trying to spread on their boards that the game is a hoax.

Secondly they can do whatever they want with yout IP since you go there. If getting your IP was illegal then most sites wouldn't beable to even get your IP.

However about then posting it is logical in terms that they are telling their fans so they can add your IP to thier site forums to avoid having you come there to harrass the game there as well. This is very typical of online gaming and is used strongly with people using hacks on Counter Strike. Innfact you can go to a lot of sites on the net to get lists of known hackers and their IP so you can add them to your banned list on your server.

Also to come on here to cry for help is so childish. You go on a game dev's web site, make accusations and try to spread rumors that the game is vaporware then when they shut you up for it. You come here and try to make yourself look like the victim. Then on top of that you then turn what they say about finding out who you are into trying to get others to mess with you with your IP.

Not only are you behaving very paranoid, but you are on a roll of creating a list of accusations to cover for your poor behavior on a Developers website.

I think this is a sign that people should start behaving on the net as they would behave in public. I think it is about time that people start being responsible for how they act in public communities on the net.

Oh and about what Zaxtor99 says, Your IP is poublic infomation and once you hit anyones location they have rights to do as they please with the info you share with them. If you don't like it. Don't go there. Consent for giving out an IP. LOL what a joke. Older forums use to list IPs along with your post. Infact I am sure it is still optional on most boards.

This is pretty crass to say the least. Realms of Torment (Now Mourning) intrigued me.

But I would not want to be under the nazi regime of such devs & moderators as to such the extent of making the game unenjoyable.

Yeah, Im all for a decent forum but thats a little overboard. Who do they have over there running the boards anyway.....Hitler and Hess?

Rudoc you are harrassing me and now I am going to sue you. Everyone else plz do the same. Here is his home address it is in the phone book so its ok that I give it out.

Yeah, I agree it is a little over board how they did respond to him. But their maturuty is about as eqivelant as Gruch's is as well.

As they say a tooth for a tooth. LOL

Hmm, if you guys read all the forums Gruch posted on and even the Admin response. Doesn't Gruch seem a bit nervous? Sounds a lot to me like he tried to be a smart ass and now is running scared. As I say an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.

    Well...

Seeing that Grunch is a new account here as well...  I suppose your last account was deleted by the MMORPG staff.  (I was more on your side until I realize that Grunch is an account created in February 2005)

I honestly hope they scare the hell outta you...  even if they could ''win'' in court, I doubt anything to bad could be enforced on you, maybe some ''community working'', a month helping the poors and the needy could make you some good I suppose.  image

First off I sounded paranoid not nervous because I was debating wether or not to pre-order the game and it seemed strange to me that no game stores ive gone to have it on their lists and it was due to release feb 25. They got mad and deleted many posts about this subject. I sugested updating the game info to put people at ease about the vapor rumors.

I said in one of my post somthing like "P.S. wtf why is scam filtered on these boards" I was new so I asked it was in the bottom of my post. Then they started to say things like "That is not something which can really be defined, you just learn about it when you're young and your parents are rising you." talking about common sense.

I dont know maybe its a culture difference with us and Romania as I have not met anyone from there online until now.

Okay, so I am really, really tired and maybe them posting his IP address isn't THAT big of a deal.  But It still seems very wrong and twisted to me.  Wouldn't it be much simpler to ban the guy without a word?  Quick, easy and fast.  And it won't piss off the fans so much as if they have 2 brain cells for common sense, then they will know full well why the dude got a ban.  But to come back and act as inmature as his posts if not even more inmature, well that is highly disappointing to me of what should be professionals that will be running a new mmo.  I seriously doubt you would ever see anything like this from the devs at Turbine, Microsoft, Vivendi, Sony, Blizzard, or any other well respected company.  And for the fans when all they keep asking for is more info about the game and screenshots and movies and such, why show them all this kind of non-sense instead??  Makes no sense at all to me.  Seems to me that they sure as hell are very defensive of their game.  What I mean is this... If they would instead spend their time putting out some new in game videos or making a promised big announcement instead of continually keeping their fans in waiting... that in itself would shush up all the trolls and doubters of the game.  But to do this is only feeding the frenzy and doubt even more so it would seem to me.

But hey, that's just my opinion.  Everyones got one.

HAHA, Gruch, you need to grow up. Are you shure you are in the Military? Shees we have people like you defending our country?

Oh BTW Gruch, you are taking this out of context. I don't see your home address anywhere, just because they have your IP doesn't mean they can get your personal info. Shees, wake up guy. All they can do is  go through channels to use legal action in which they can't get your personal info from your ISP or Gov. I think you are looking at this a little bit too harsh, the world isn't like the MOB. I think you are still a bit paranoid and need to calm down.

Eventhough if they wanted to spend money to go after you for this, it would be over bearing. Like I said in my last post. I think both sides are acting a bit immature. You get what you asked for. But Hey Gruch look on the bright side. Maybe what you did was pull the cat out of the bag and revealed that maybe we can't rely on them to release a good product if this is how they behave. Maybe how they are treating you just shows us that hey. Could he be right? Would a serious dev team really behave this way? Maybe they are really bitting out towards Grunch because he is really revealing something to us.

Well anyway, I wouldn't worry about it guy. Don't worry about your IP or what they say. Either way I think how they responded to you will only hurt them in the long run. But for you to attack anyone that looks at this a bit different than what you want only shows others that they shouldn''t take you serious. I wouldn't especially when you accuse others of either being them and then say I am hassarring you, just because I don't totally agree with you. Most will just see it as a joke ...laugh and then click to read the next thread.

However, Anyway, Thanks for the info though, eventhough I think not only you were in the wrong, but their additude being very un professional dealing with you was even more un popular. Shees, I may even take them off my bookmarks and visit Vangaurd more often. ENJOY....But hey, don't worry about it. After now knowing they are from Romania, I don't think their game will be anything good anyhow. LOL... Plus with a possible lawsuit. LOL goodluck messing with one of our Mil guys. So, Grunch I would take a VERY DEEP breath and thankful you are in the Military.

    Nuff said.

Rudoc when I posted that I was trying to make a point that just because the information can be obtained from a phone book for example (public) you shouldnt give it out like that. Its like me writing your phone number on a bathroom wall saying "plz call for hot man love. -TheBeast". It may not be illegal but I think its wrong and dishonorable.

If this were acient China they would already be dead. Jk about china dont want to get sued image

Also to the guy who said I must have had an old account here banned; sorry I just signed up the other night.

There is no need to be making fun of Grunch however.  I know I could not make the sacrifices the military folks do, and I am gratefull some do it.

Romania was under communist not long ago.  So Mourning is either run by ex-commies, or by new born capitalist freedom defenders.

Romania was very versed in Propaganda and that type of stuff.  So if you walk home tail between the legs and nice enought, I doubt they will do anything more, it is costy to make a lawsuit, would cost them more then what they could gain.   So as long as they dont make it a pride priority, you should be fine hehe.  The extreme reaction is intimidation, the wise move is to back out and to accept it, as I said, dont make it a pride and ethic thing, making you a ''martyr'' would do them no good either so...accept the ''public beating'' in a gentleman way on their server.  They are on their server and they make the rules there, it is not a fight worth fighting.  Apologies and walking away is the best answer. image

I can understand your point, but you got to realize that IP's are dynamic and usually you can login and off to change it. Or just call Tech Support to reset it (telling him/her that some one is trying to hack you).

If you happen to have a Static IP then it is just a little more work and might cost you a few bucks to get it changed. But only ones I know these days using a static IP are SDSL, not ADSL or RADSL users. Which even a lot of SDSL users are on a dynamic.

However, I can see your point as to they just splurt it out on a thread and the resolveing IP address. But to be honest I would like to see the first person who will try to mess with a address that has a .mil in it. Plus it shows most of us that this Admin must be a REAL stupid person to even post your IP after he realized that it was a Military address. To be perfectly with you. I was like. OMG this guy works for the Mourning Dev team?

So, in the end Grunch, to speak in laymans terms. You took one in the Arse to show use they have guns. Thanks for the info... If they are vaporware devs, you have opened the window. If not then atleast you shown us how the quality of their company. :)
