Now that D3 has a launch date, when do you think ANET will launch GW2

Hopefully not sooner than when the game is ready for release. It would be a nice change for once to see company actually follow that rule. I'd rather wait few months extra than lack an important feature at release day. Will probably know more however after 10th April.

I still think it will be in early June, but what do I know?  Last time I voted in a poll for release date I voted 1st Quarter of 2012.  That was my optimism voting, not me, and I bet my optimism is still doing the voting.  So very, very bored of having nothing to play!

    They compete on first sales!

Most I know are taking a pass on D3 for various reasons already, the rush launch is just adding more to the pass list.

lol, so many signs point to D3 being a dissapointment from the "Get D3 free with a 12 month sub to WoW" to the "Ok, it's not exactly ready yet.... but it's launching in May!".

April 10th my monies going to GW2.

And for those saying they shouldn't go against the Goliath, no matter where you look it appears Anet's GW2 is Goliath not D3 lol.

    They compete on expectations!

They compete on playtime and schedule!

Also a lot of those fans aren't hardcore gamers, they don't neccesarily buy more then one game at a time. Another factor is there's still a lot of diablo fans who've waited 12 years for it. GW2 pricing model means it'll probably compete with any mainstream title that launches around the same time. Considering that it's slightly more expensive then other new release games, (from ANET site of course), it'll be interesting to see how it pans out...

    Maybe they compete!

BOTH GW2 and D3 will attract MILLIONS of people. They are the two largest happenings looking into 2012.

Both titles compete and appeal to the same target audience, depending on what happens after launch pvp wise with D3 and on how much GW2 delivers on it's promises they will make it or break it.

If D3 delivers kick ass pvp free update 2 months after launch and GW2 is a bug ridden fest that goes into never ending 6 month beta all the fanboys will move to D3.

If D3 never launches any pvp and has endgame resumed to grinding stupid gear over and over again in pve, people will grind through it, become bored and jump to the GW2 bandwagon the minute it launches.

Every other MMO out there with more than 10 players is ALSO paying VERY CLOSE attention to these two titles, plus the WOW expansion coming at the end of the year.

    Look at GDC...

Wake up folks, these titles not only COMPETE but are VERY AGGRESSIVE AT IT!

I think ANet will announce its release date on April 10th when they start accepting pre-purchase orders. That is only if they successfully stress their servers to their liking. Also, I heard that NDA will be dropped next week if all things go well. (I could be wrong.)

My money is on May 22nd. May 19th will be THE DATE for 3 days headstart, of course.

    I've got the straight edge.

If this upcoming beta test goes well, I figure they'll do a larger test in April and release in May.

If this upcoming beta test goes bad, they'll prolly do two more progressively larger beta tests in April and May, then progress to release in June.

Who knows though? As said by many others and ANET themselves: "It will release when it's ready." =)

yes.  it has do with account management and security.  they have to link gw1 and gw2 accounts together because of HoM.

Good point, but after doing that it could happen any time after right. So not before the 14th June ....?

I don't think GW2 will suffer much from diablo 3 being released close to it. If anything it will be the other way around, people who want both badly but can only afford one are more likely to get GW2 since you can just pirate diablo 3 and still enjoy it more or less fully (and maybe buy diablo 3 later down the line at a discounted price).

Guild Wars 2 and Diablo III are different games. Having played Diablo III (yay keys), I can say that it's pretty much just the WoW formula. So to my mind it's like comparing WoW and GW2.

The thing is is that it's like comparing chalk and cheese.

Kind of like comparing an FPS to a board game. They're just different beasts. And if you add on to that that Diablo III is singleplayer, then you have an even further divide.

So no, I don't see a need for competition at all. It'd be like asking if BioShock: Infinite was going to compete with Guild Wars 2, in my opinion. It's a bit of a silly question.

Not to mention that not everyone is interested in Diablo III. I'm not a fan. The true Diablo devs, the heart and soul of Diablo, left Blizzard long ago to make Torchlight (and soon Torchlight II). [Source] And I saw that when I played it, it doesn't feel very Diablo-ish to me at all. *shrugs.* I'm not a fan of D3. I'll just be getting Torchlight II. (And since Torchlight II doesn't have a wallet-gougingly ridiculous price, it won't hurt my GW2 funds!)
