well i probably will buy from a net , but how much time will it take to come to Portugal ?? the game and figurines and i don´t have a credit card .
MBnet, every bank has it in portugal I think, just sign up for it.
Also, doesnt usually take long, just ordered an SSD from UK took 4 days, usually with boxed stuff they will give a headstart and the grace period which so far has been enough for me with every game I bought.
I voted yes, simply because Steam is a good place to store my digital records of games, but is it needed? Not really, NCsoft master account will allow you to re-download the game anyway.
The few only real positive of buying on steam is because
They have good prices
I'll use Steam for other games anyway
Achievements?
But it must not be required to play the game if I chose to buy from Steam, Witcher 2 and Batman: AC requires Steam to be actively running to be able to play, which is terrible for a MMO.
How much WoW could a WoWhater hate, if a WoWhater could hate WoW? As much WoW as a WoWhater would, if a WoWhater could hate WoW.
I am definitely a fan of Steam... I love bargains and chatting with others that enjoy the same games I do.
I also love indie games and Steam is an amazing platform for them. As a store front Steam is probably doing more for grass roots game development then anyone else out there.
Saying that, I will be buying the GW2 CE box, so not this time.
It would probably be a good idea to have it available via Steam
But personally, if I can buy a digital copy direct from the developer - and in the case of GW2, I can - I would never buy it via a third party like Steam.
I don't understand the logic behind preferring Steam to physically owning the game. The only positive that I could come up with would be the convenience of never having to leave home to actually purchase it. There's practically nothing else, aside from maybe cloud gaming.
At any point in time Steam could just up and call it quits, and, since none of you actually own the game, there goes your entire collection down the drain. Of course, that's a worst case scenario that will probably never happen in the foreseeable future, but the threat does exist.
There's nothing safer about cloud services. They are a convenience, nothing more; that is, unless you're incapable of keeping up with / protecting a physical disk.
And no, I'm not hatemongering - I actually have a few games on steam, just because of how convenient it is. I've no problem with GW2 going on Steam; in fact, it'd probably boost their sales.
I, however, won't buy an MMO off Steam. Just a personal preference: I don't like having to use Steam unless absolutely necessary.
i prefer to have all my games on steam, its the safest way to buy digital copies. i have lost all my mmorpg serial keys that i didt buy on steam and if i want to get my accounts back i need to call those companies to prove that it is me that own those games.
If i had those on steam i would just right click the game and i could see my 5 year old serial keys. No hassle for me to get those accounts back.
Physical copies offers the same as steam does, security as you will always have those serial in the box.

I love Steam and use it for 90% of my games but I will be getting this one from ANet.
The main reason I like steam is that I tend to lose CDs but mostly CD keys wich is a royal pain.
I also end of reformatting getting a new PC more often than I should and I is easier to just install steam. . select the games I want and have it download and update them all automatically.
The reason I will grab this from ANet is that it is a digital download anyway and the CD key is linked to the account so it works just as well for me - and they might as well get all of my money.

I don't know about Witcher 2, but Arkham City uses SecuROM and Games for Windows Live, so that might be why you need to maintain a connection to the internet. Games for Windows Live is one of the worst online services I've ever experienced.
As far as I know you can run GW1 without Steam even if you bought it on Steam. It varies from game to game.

Thats the main reason I dont like Steam, having it running in the background causes major lag, at least for me it has, and I have a nice computer.
Then theres the auto update, I guess you can turn it off, but man what a pain for so little convienence.
look to what happened recently with Direct2Drive and all the D2D costumers who lost their games to the dishonest GameFly company who bought D2D..
Imagine Steam beeing bought by another dishonest company and you get the picture.. bam.. all your games gone.
Thats why i always advice.. buy non digital.. or if digital, something you can backup at home and doesnt require online activation to run.
Furthermore.. if you planning to be one day a game collector, forget digital..
My disk of the very first game I got from D2D drive would either be lost or distroyed already. Hell might have even trown it away to save space for all the other games. Most of the game I had non-digital and want to play now, means I have to go to GOG and buy the digital there :P
If however you better at not losing stuff then me and have the room to store 100s of disk, then yes non-digital might be a better solution.
