Help with new PC purchase please?

Hero_AlphaHero_Alpha Member UncommonPosts: 60

Hello, its time to get a new PC and I have it narrowed down to 2 pretty much. The one I have now I built in 08' and just want to buy one this time pre-built. Can some of you guys that know more than me help me out? Between these 2 which one would be best (will be playing Guild Wars 2 mostly)? They both have the same basic processor I want and extra RAM slots to upgrade later and similar graphics. Thanks for the help.

Don't limit yourself to those two, others will be a long later that may be able to configure a prebuilt for you that's better and with named hardware you can trust rather that generic "z68" motherboard or "800W" power supply for example.

If it's just a choice between those 2 then I wouldn't even upgrade. Not sure that's any help though lol. It really ISN'T worth it to buy one of those pre-builts just do it yourself like masturba-loon carriers :

    The correct answer is neither.

If you've built your own in the past, then you know how to assemble parts, and so building your own again is the ideal route.  If the problem is that you don't know what parts to get, then I could pick parts for you.

If the problem is that you don't want to take the time to screw things together, then you're still better off getting something built to order than buying a prebuilt.  Make sure that you get to pick the exact parts.  If you're interested in going that route, I could probably find something for you on a ~$1000 budget.  It won't be as good as if you built your own, but it will be a lot better than those prebuilts.

Yes the problem of building my own is two fold, I dont really have the time to put it all together and have to worry about it. Plus I haven't been keeping up with quality parts and manufacturers well since 08' when I built the last one, and I really didnt know what I was doing then but decided to try and it worked hehe. So any suggestions for a $1000, give or take a few dollars, would be really appreciated. I was looking for a i7 and a GTX 560 at least and enough RAM space for 16gigs even if I only start with 8. All I need is a tower. Thanks.

I used to have fun building my own rigs, but the eyes are getting bad and the fun is gone.

It's time to have it handed to me on a platter. My current rig is new, but the wifey needs a new one so I will give her mine. And get myself this setup

My question is, do you think it would be worth it to add the extra $200 for those new SSD drives and Raid them in a raid 0 config and just throw a 1T drive for files?

Are these really that much faster? Not much space on them so best I can see is putting the OS on there and maybe one or two games.

I have a Cyberpower I got off Newegg, and I can honestly say I won't be buying another one. It's only a year old and I'm having to upgrade components already because they used inferior parts, some not even name brand.

At the very least, buy directly from their website so you can make sure quality components are used.

I've learned my lesson. The next PC I buy will either be from a high-quality vendor (Digital Storm, Falcon Northwest, etc.) or I'll just build the damned thing myself. Probably the latter, because those premium vendors are pretty pricey.

Thanks yea that Digital Storm stuff looks really nice. I can put together pretty much what I want on there for $1.2k.
