From my point of view

I haven't really played alot of MMOs so I have a very limited library in which to compare this game to. I have played LOTRO and some WoW Ive also played a little of RIFT. But in my opinion I feel like this is an all in all good game with a lot of potential! I've been reading some of the reviews that some of the other players are giving this game and it seems to me (from my limited stand point) that they are a little harsh for such a new game. It's only been out since December and while thats not so short a time its also not so long either. I was a founder for LOTRO and it had a lot of faults when it first came out as well it really didnt start to improve untill the first content expansion. I think SWTOR  has a lot of good points, I noticed that alot of players complained that you really didnt need groups to do much of the quests well this is something that makes it great for me. I dont like having to scrounge together a group for every other mission like I had to do in other MMOs. Also I like the game play it's exciting and fun the since of community everybodies complaining about I just don't get as I have met and befriended several players. Some things I dont like though and have to agree with is the cafting is a bit boring and presents no challenges. Also I dont like the UI either as well as the ability to customize it is weak. Also I think something they might like to look into is audio chat for groups its hard to type and keep up with everybody. I also agree that the worlds are a little content starved. But these are all things that can be fixed in upcoming updates and patches. All in all I think that it's a good game worth playing and giving a try. I for one look forward to seeing where SWTOR is headed and where it might go next.
