    I think the F2P model for AAA titles is a little overdone.   DDO had huge success with it the first year... but we really haven´t heard of AAA companies making incredible profits since then.  Certainly for EQ2 and AOC it did not work because even with f2p they have not seen any real increase in players, let alone more money.  I think DDO was successful at it because they were the first AAA title that did it and also their content (with adventure packs) really lends itself well to free2play.  They also implemented a very generous system that didn´t handcuff your gameplay.  You could play almost every race and class and quest through a ton of content without ever paying.

    Ohhh plz.

    DDO was such a huge success that any MMO dwarfs any numbers that DDO numbers peaked at after the F2P transition?  The pushed out hardly any kind of content and most of it was rehashing old content with "epic" loot that would take one month and months of straight farming if not up to a year.  Also F2P is not even remotely true to say of DDO.  You actually have to buy the content as the majority of adventure packs which is not feasable to buy with game earned favor TP.  They pretty much force you to buy the content.  Which is just a few quests if that.  Content is stagnant as hell if you look over the years and what new content was available compared to other MMOs.  Took em what? A whole year just to add the new Blademaster and Artificer raids?  Yeah its a bit exagerated but I personally think their Dev team is bout utter crap.  And how is it that every update they break shit in game?  I mean seriously... every friggin time.  That just screams incopetance.

    Yeah... well just went off on a tangent over DDO as I costantly gotta deal with this dip shit from DDO in the Neverwinter forums thinking that DDO is god's grace on earth and is preaching how Neverwinter needs to be DDO 2.

    @OP

    You need to get busy with email notifications. There are like 10M players that need to be told that WoW is finsished. That's going to take a while and they might want to know about this before the expansion hits and WoW gets even more players

    Yeah... well just went off on a tangent over DDO as I costantly gotta deal with this dip shit from DDO in the Neverwinter forums thinking that DDO is god's grace on earth and is preaching how Neverwinter needs to be DDO 2.

    I liked f2p  DDO.    If you enjoy alts ( I do).. you simply play a different character class on different servers and the TP you get buys more adventure packs.  It adds up really fast.  I only had my characters to like lvl 8 and I had already bought maybe 10 adventure packs. (without spending $$)    Like I said, one of the reasons F2P works well in DDO is that you can buy adventure packs incrementally and for almost any level range.  They are a couple bucks.... so my definition of a good cash shop is buying small amounts of content for a couple bucks.

    But the reason I said it was successful is beause it WAS successful.  The amount of money they made by going F2P is what cause many other games, especially EQ2 and LOTRO to follow them.  The second point is that they now have more players and servers ( success)  as compared to games like AOC that went F2P and still had to shut down more servers.

    I am not arguing with your assessment of the game, or the devs.  I was just stating that their model for f2p  worked. (more $$, more players, more servers) compared to eq2 and AOC
