Twinks: Everyone can do it

GrayGreeneGrayGreene Member Posts: 239

Just wanted to educate the folks crying in warfronts concerning twinks.  Firstly, faction/favor farming exists because level 50 bracket is a tough beast to conquer.  You will need much more favor then you think if you hit 50 before you're ready/prepared.  Other forms of farming while locked at your most competetive time for your bracket exist in obtaining stones for planar gear.  Not very difficult to do, but usually will want to lock until you have secured the stones for your upcoming bracket.  So these are the primary reasons why folks lock in their brackets while twinked.  Of course, there are those that never move into the 50s, and constantly reroll and retwink while abusing the lower brackets.  I feel those are a minority, and myself do not twink for such petty reasons.  I want to evolve my characters, and entering the level 50s bracket as prepared as possible is the best way to do that.

Second, twinking out a character is not at all difficult.  I thought it would be, and always played warfronts with the frame of mind, well, i'll probably be in top 3 with my crafted greens, but never hit numbers like those twinks do in stats.  However, eventually I learned how relatively easy it is to hit 45-50 with a character, and farm instant adventures/invasions like an hour a day to twink out a new character.  Also, that level 45-50 character gets glass beads during these invastions/adventures which are bind on account.  So you can quickly earn enough beads to get the gear that used to only be available to twinks of old.  Now you too can twink.  Hit 39/49, makes some friends, farm your faction/favor.  When you max out in favor (which you will easily) buy your tier 1 pvp gear for 50.  Max out again, buy tier 2.  At that point, you can enter the 50s bracket, or you can continue farming till you have enough for tier 3 gear right out the gate.  However, I myself think tier 2 is sufficient to be useful in 50s.  Not truly competetive, but useful.   So to those who continue to cry, who often enter warfronts with costume helmets as their primary armor and empty source engines without an inkling why planar essences exist . . . i say learn the game.  If you are brand new, you should pve mainly and make a crafter.  If you hate crafting, then just pve and save your stones from planar zone events.  Those can be purchased as vouchers to send to an alt by the way!  Save up your glass beads for the important gear, rather the cosmetic.  1000 beads gives you the barnacle encrusted source engine which is bind on account!

Thirdly, a well oiled team is far greater than a twink, even the annoying warrior ones who have pocket healers ignoring everyone but them.  Focus fire and communication works best for any team, regardless of gear.  (You can even have a fast rogue to be used as "bait.")

In closing, twinking is not that hard to do, and some time spent doing homework will get you the gear you need.  These games combine multi-tasking, keypad reflexes, gear, teamwork, ect. to equate to what most would describe as "skill."  Gear is single largest advantage for this, and these games are designed that way.  There would be no AH if someone didnt have better gear than someone else.  It all exists for a type of progression/empowerment of your character.  Trion has made it so everyone can twink.  Don't just switch over from the trial, enter a warfront without any planar essences, shoulders, helmets and cry about twinks.  You can't simply be given what other players earned.  But as it stands now, you almost are :)

So in other words, to enjoy PvP levelling up you should magically have a character already leveled to farm for your first character?  Or are you saying its foolish to expect to be able to enjoy a good PvP game on your first character?

This post is a clear example of someone who doesnt get it. Wow already has the solution to this issue implemented.

Sounds like an exact clone of EQ2's pvp gear. The same situation arises where you are REQUIRED to have an already kitted out pvp character (takes months btw) in order to "farm" for your other character.

Such a horrible pvp system I swear.

You have clearly mis-read the post.  Please read more carefully, and attempt to understand better what people post.  You're comprehension needs improvement. :)  And for your information, you can warfront with your first character (which doesn't make much sense to me since new players to games always first start out learning the game) if you so wish and farm sourcestones through rift zone events.  Thats why the exp. locking helps newer player.  You can lock at 29, farm stones for 30s bracket planar gear.  Match that with blue pvp gear for 30s and your'e all set.  Earn the 1000 glass beads (took me a day with a 50, 3 days with a 20 something) and buy a barnacle encrusted source engine that is BOA.  It's not hard.  You just can't be as mis-informed as you clearly are.

Why would anyone want to farm warfronts with their first character?  You both sound like lazy players who demand everything be given to you.  Learn the game.  Put in some effort.  If you play an hour or so a day you can have great gear for a PVP character in a few days.  That's it.  Quit crying because you want everything now without deserving it.

actually there are people who are homophobic so not everyone can do it.

The only way to have fun in Rift PvP is to twink. People who join PvP while leveling will level past to the end game soon enough... where they will find MONTHS of grinding before they can compete again once they're 50.

At least locking XP and twinking is fun! image

Damn, you beat me too it hah. That up there is why I've never understood why people use that term for games.

Each time I see someone say that I just shake my head at them.  Type it into a GOOGLE search, just "twink" and guess what pops up first.........No pun intended :)

Did you even read what he wrote?

This game is way easier to twink out toons than WoW. If you can't handle the few twinks there is no way in hell you can handle 50 PvP. Its far, far worse and you can level out of that bracket.

I'm leveling a rogue now. I plan to lock at 49 and collect my favor and gear before I hit 50

The term in games CAME from the gay term actually. The notion being that the higher level player (older guy) would give gifts to the lower level (younger guy). It was meant in a derogatory way unfortunately.

So what you are saying is that Rift PvP system is horrible?

And why is twinking fun?  Because you can slaughter people?

WoW solved the issue perfectly by making twinks get their own battleground.  Its just silly that Rift hasnt done the same thing.

Just because twinking isnt that hard to do doesnt mean that it is excusable to not quarantine twinks from normal people.

Finally, someone in this post who gets it.  Amen to that - this core tradition that the AAA games have tried to emulate needs to go.  I don't want to level lock to grind out PvP gear to compete with playerse that live inside the game.

This idea of earning your crap the good ol' way in MMO's is crazy lol...I can't belive people use it to defend a grind..lol

Recently came back to rift with a free 3 day trial for the first time since head start. This game is everything that is wrong with MMOs. While I was updating the client I googled rift macros. So my rotation literally consisted of 5 buttons... 2 of which were extremely situational. So here I am tabling heroic dungeons mashing 1, 2, 3 and really don't even know exactly what my abilities even do. It was incredibly easy and everything was on farm status. I could've taught my 3 yr old niece to main tank a dungeon. And what's worse is you're expected to run this crap for hours and hours, day after day. Mind numbing.
