During last weekend's beta event, we took the cook's tour around the Human stronghold of Divinity's Reach. We've got a tasty video tour of the city along with a bit of reaction to what we saw. Check out Guild Wars 2: Divinity's Reach Video Preview.

    Huge city, beautiful gameworld.

NPC's didn't seem very impressive though, no more interactive than WoW townsfolk.

nice... big streets like main street in Moscow.. flying flowers... (Looks like someone returned from the moon).. map like Mournhold from Morrowind... this is realy innovative :(

Good video.   If this video is any indication on the size of the races cities, this game could possibly have some of the largest MMO cities we have seen.

MMO cities - you're doing it right.

Not bad, looks good. Still think Stormreach from DDO is bigger, but  the districts sre instanced. Can't wait to play.

  • ZeGermanZeGerman Member UncommonPosts: 211

Normaly i would say a large city is a bad idea.  But thats because anyone who played aion at launch understands you dont want to have to wait 5 minutes to take a barge from one useful part of the city across huge amounts of useless crap to get to the other part of the city thats actualy useful.

What i love about this is there is stuff to do all over the city its not just the merchant area tons of crap then the quest area like most MMO's

Anyone know if they turned down the graphics for the beta or if the broadcaster had the graphics turned down?  just wondering.

Nice huge city but doesn't seem much is going on in there. Streets are mostly empty and deserted.

It actually feels bigger than Hoelbrak and Black Citadel, but it could just be because of the scope of DR.  I do think they're all generally the same size.

@Pretice: This was on High, but not "very" high, recorded at 720p.

uugh just found out GW2 wont have any mounts- I LOVE the WP system 100%, but i like mounts to see scenic routes in ANY mmo game. sad actually GW2 w/o mounts is like a home w/o DSL.

    disappointed

My only fear is that, at the last minute, they decide to just turn the cities into quest hubs and create an incredibly bland, circular "ground-station" to use as the social hub for every race.

Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob?

Can't wait to see an in depth look at the Sylvari and Asura cities.

City already has class quests, crafting quests along with other side quests. So plenty of questing inside city to keep you busy.

Heheh I was just poking fun at the utter lack of decent social hubs in SWTOR ;).

You'll be pleasantly surprised. Most NPCs are scripted and will do a number of things if you hang around long enough, even interacting with each other.

On another video city tour that I saw there wasn't any player commentary. So you could hear all of the ambient sounds and townfolk talk. You'll be pleasantly surprised on just how the npc conversations liven the place up.

I don't think you'll ever see an mmo city with the interactivity of an Assassins Creed game for example. That would kill most everyones computer I think.

Looks awesome. Nice to see Prince Rurik having district named after him :) Can't wait to see Lion's Arch though. From what I've seen in older vids, that city might even look more impressive. I really hope that Lion's Arch will function as the main hub for all races in the game.

Oh and on a sidenote : I don't think the humans moved from Ascalon to Divinity Reach? Ascalon was destroyed in the searing (start of Prophecies in GW) and those ppl from that city were refugees hidden in some villages I think. You encounter those after you reach Lion's Arch. I remember only Divinity Coast in GW1, which is just a mission area.

ive seen alot of divinitys reach already and it's purely awesome

but i cant wait until ANET opens up Lion's Arch!
