It looks like you're new here. If you want to get involved, click one of these buttons!
As you know, or do not know EQ went F2P (see http://everquest.com/free for restrictions).
FOR NEW PLAYERS:
You will have a vast new world with enough depth to keep you busy for a long time. The learning curve can be daunting, however, if this game is for you that is the charm that will keep you logging in.
FOR RETURNING PLAYERS:
Many individuals are logging in to look to log into their old accounts and jump on their old characters. Many are angry at some of the things they find when they do so. Here are a few things to expect before you log right back and and proclaim that SOE has pulled a fast one on you just to download the game again.
* There is now Prestige gear. If you are a returning player you will most likely be a silver member. Most of your gear may be considered prestige and off limits to the two F2P catagories (Free/Silver).
If you were in defiant or augmented gear prior to your departure from the game be prepeared for this. Before you log out in frustration understand that removal of augmentations and power sources may allow you to wear your gear. This will cost platinum, which is restricted to a limited amount as an F2P customer.
* There are no purchasable "unlocks" at this time via their marketplace/cash shop. This may change in an April patch for grandfathered characters. I have not found information from a reliable source stating that this WILL happen, if i find it I will add it to the thread. If someojne else has one, please add it.
* Some have been having issues having immediate availability to their "mains". Contacting SOE customer support appears to resolve this issue. You are allowed 4 character slots, SOE Customer Service appears to work with individuals to get you where you want to be with the 4 that are available. Some report a couple days for this issue to be resolved.
* The FAQ for the new F2P version is at http://forums.station.sony.com/eq/posts/list.m?topic_id=183997 This goes more in depth as to what to expect when logging into the game. The initial link mentions restrictions between the game but doesnt necessarily mention them all.
