I'm currently not playing any MMOs, having stopped playing WoW, Rift, GW1 etc.
I have the following 4 games lying in my DvD rack, which I've probably played the free trial of & then not resubbed. I haven't played either of them in over a year & haven't progressed past lvl 5-10 or so on each game.
- Age of Conan
- Warhammer Online
- Aion
- Champions Online
I prefer to keep my maximum MMOs played at one time strictly at two. Therefore, Guild Wars 2 WILL be one of my MMOs that I'll be playing once it's released. Therefore, I have room for just one more to play at the same time. It was going to be TERA, and may still be, although I was curious as to whether you guys feel any of the MMOs I listed above are actually worth playing?
I can by all means wait until TERA & GW2, although if one of the MMOs I've listed above actually has a decent sized player base & are worth getting into, then please let me know, as I'll be able to play one within the next hour or so, instead of having to wait for a brand new game to release.
Thanks guys.

One of those 4 is dead (Warhammer) and the other 3 are (or soon will be), f2p cash shop games. So if you aren't looking for a f2p/cash shop game then none of those will work and you'll have to wait for Tera. If you *are* looking for a cash shop game I can't make any personal recommendations, but at least you have hundreds and hundreds to pick from.
I have played 3 out of the 4 posted AoC and Warhammer are games u just dont want to jump in if you werent there from the start tight communitys and just my personal experiance wasnt really worth it. Aion i played during beta and shortly after had extreme balance issues and flight was basically a gimic because it felt the victor of battles was based on how long u could fly and like i said extreme character balance issues. Champion i have no opinion on. I personally would only go as far back as swtor in my mmo experiance only because i enjoy fightign with lightsabers game is average the pve content isnt really there and the pvp is only now starting to become something worth wild because of the boon of illum 60 battlemaster babies it was rough to jump in to but with 1-49 being paired in pvp now its fine.
On a side note d3 comes out in may and i would suggest playing tho not a mmo and more of a dungeon crawler it should hold you over assuming u can wait till then. And you wont have to devote terrible amounts of time to both games as i bilieve were looking at a june july release for gw2
AOC definately..not brilliant but the combat i fantastic, tortage is just amazing.great start to a game.
easy to choose as AoC is the best pve mmo on the market right now (by far).
I played all 4 of those games and my honest answer is... I wouldn't choose any of them.
Of the 4 the one I liked the most would be AoC ... and I'd probably put Aion second (this isn't saying much).
AoC is F2P now with various limitations to encourage membership, cash shop or both. So you could install it.. try it and see what you think without spending anything but some download time. If you think you like it you can always go from there.. as far as if you get a membership etc
Aion is already I believe F2P in Europe and will soon be in North America. So depending on your market you could try it.. or soon try it without cost... at least to check it out.
Its just hard to seperate myself from personal opinion and give you any sort of neutral feedback on those games.
The sad part of that list... is 2 of those games were made by decent development companies... and those same 2 are the ones I wouldn't even remotely consider playing (champions online / WAR)
As an alternative - Elder Scrolls : Skyrim is a very good single player game with a lot of player made mods. I would recommend that over the 4 mmos you mentioned.
Currently bored with MMO's.
CO is fun for ~ month
Aion is a pretty good game for grouping/raiding etc.
WAr is an ok pvp games ~1-2 months.
Aoc ill not comment because i don't care for it.

I've only played AoC and WAR from that list and I'd never go back to them. The other two never interested me and still don't. So I guess the answer is I'd play none of them.
If I was looking for some kind of supplementary game to play in addition to the MMO I already have lined up, it would be between Firefall, Planetside 2, Mechwarrior Online and Wildstar, although I suspect Wildstar won't even be out this year. Combined with the single player games that will be available, my game calendar is going to be full.
Be wary of the peoplel pushing you toward AoC. Their combat system is an acquired taste and is not for everyone or even the majority of MMO gamers. Even when it went F2P, it never became a powerhouse specifically for that reason.
I'm not a fan of any of the games you listed, but if you're only wanting something temporary, I'd probably give Champions Online a go. It's fun enough to last at least a couple of months and I found it far more entertaining than the rest on your list.
I tried AOC as a caster class and it didn't feel right or fun. I think they made the combat system mostly for melee classes.
I think buildings and landscape looks nice in AOC but the character faces and hair often look wrong, both player and NPC.
AION will soon release update 3.0 with many new nice features and improvements, so thats why I recommend that of those on the list.
Warhammer seems to be a game with good ideas but bad implemtations.
If you want a super hero game, I think you should also check out DC Universe Online.
i would choose AoC simply because it's free right now and you can pretty much level all the way to 80 pretty much free. if you just dont like it then you just un intall, no money wasted.
i personally really enjoyed my time in AoC. beautiful graphics, interesting combat mechanincs, great story/music. however it is low fantasy and heavely instanced.
Aion would be my second choice but it's not free quite yet. a few more weeks. it's a completely different feel from AoC ( high fantasy, high flash, high anime feel, oversized weappons, etc...). i'd say download the European F2P version and see for yourself. again no money needs wasting until you are sure.
War is pretty much dead. it's actually a fun game with some very fun mechanics. pretty much a WoW clone heavely focused on open world pvp objectives. sadly the lack of people playing this game, especially after the free level 10, makes this game very boring since it's impossible to find people to partake in world pvp and you are left with very generic solo questing. there is however a free trial (up to level 10) if you are REALLY curious.
I would say Aion and then Warhammer.
I always consider just going back to Aion and calling it a day as I found it a very enjoyable game. Just hated waiting at a pvp siege and nothing happening and getting my "tokens" just for being there.
Hopefully that will change when the game goes f2p.
I say Warhammer because I loved my character (blademaster) and I had a lot of fun in their battlegrounds.
I had less fun in the open world pvp because other than taking a keep and running to take the next one and then running back and doing it all again, there really wasn't much of it.
Not sure if they changed all that. The pve in this game goes from good (public quests) to horrible (stupid mobs standing, talking to each other, you then hit one and only the one that you hit comes for you while the ohter is talking).

OK guys, some great feedback there, thank you. I guess I'll probably just hold out for a little while until D3 is out (ty deathangell, for some reason that had COMPLETELY slipped my mind). I wasn't really holding out much luck for any positive feedback on the games I listed, although I just figured if I had them lying around, I may aswell ask.
Currently playing Alan Wake, although it just seems every single player game I play these days leaves me wanting to go list all my items on an auction house & chat with other people, etc etc. The lack of human interaction (albeit cyber) in singleplayer games these days makes the whole world just seem barren, even if loads of things are going on anyway =(
I played AoC again since it went F2P and levelled up a Guardian to 40. I had great fun knowing I wasn't paying a monthly sub, and I just treat it like a single player RPG. If you aren't bothered about the tiny community and lack of access to the high level zones then AoC is brilliant.
It's also a go anywhere mmo, with access to even the highest mountains, very freeing after being on rails in ToR.
Theres a reason why those 4 are near dead.
If you start one of them up again you will quickly remember why you stopped playing them in the first place.
Tera comes out in a month and GW2 comes out who knows when so that gives you enough time to decide.
Out of those 4 prob AOC because of the combat and story line, however I would take SWTOR, Vanguard, Lotro, and even Ryzom , and of course the upcoming GW2 over those 4
