Entropia Universe: Investor Scores $2.5M in Virtual Real Estate

Entropia Universe developer Mind Ark has announced that a single investor has snapped up $2.5 million dollars in virtual real estate on Planet Calypso. The deeds were purchased via the Citizenship system which allows for revenue sharing.
When a player procures land deeds they are granted certain privileges, these include receiving a share in the Planet Partner gross revenue of Calypso, paid weekly. This means that those in the Citizenship system are directly profit sharing from the game itself. The land deeds are auctioned at a base price of $100 per deed and have mostly gone out one-by-one. However large monetary transactions are nothing new in Planet Calypso with one player paying $330,000 for a Virtual Space Station in 2010 which, at the time, set a world record.

You clearly have no idea about this game. That guy is going to make a billion dollars off that. The guy who made the initial 300k investment is a millionaire now.

It takes money to make money. The point of the game is that it is a real world economy. It's a virtual world that has a working monetary system. Isn't it every nerds dream to make their living playing video games? Well in Entropia you cna do just that. It's a rich mans game though as I see it. I played it awhile back, and put in 20 dollars. Through playing smart and a little lcuk I was able to make about 2 dollars real world profit in the month and a half I played.

You have no idea who is the person that spend 300k, maybe he allready help alot the others and feed alot of children, we dont know so we shoulnt judge, especial on this extreme way.
Because Entropia is the rich man's game. The 1% in game are the 1% in real life.
The image I posted may be too strong for this topic. However, my mind is still stuck on the guy who purchased that Wushuu-whatever sword for $15,000.
I have to believe all these numbers are just fake. The company is not publicly held so they can pretty much say whatever they want. This game has no fanbase, is likely sparsely populated by ANYONE at all, and it's doubtful that it has more than 1 mil in transactions per year vs the 400 mil they claim.
Every so often a story like this is carried due only to the size of the numbers purported. It doesn't even pass the smell test. It's not even adequate for an april fool's joke. It's like if you said it had the same number of players WoW does paying the same amount of money. It's only done for publicity sake for a game that floundered since it's inception years ago.
Don't buy into the BS guys.
Entropia has an average return on investment of 11%, find any other investment anywhere right now with a 11% return.
I know a guy that bought an island in entropia for $50k, his return on investment has paid for 4 of his siblings to aquire college degrees, and his parents to retire and do some traveling.
I personally invested $300 and made $900 over three years.

lol actually I played active for about a month, then went away for a few years came back, played for a week then cashed out my account. The items I bought when I started playing had gone up in value.
and he also probably had fun too. That's the thing you seem to forget. It's a game too and if you can get passed the real money trading, a lot of the mechanics are what sandbox players have been begging for in a game.
Yeah ok I was one of the people bidding on the 300k station when the bids where low and yes people invest a ton of money in this game. So you can keep your tinfoil hat to your self if you played you would see some of the money thrown about in this game/casino.

ROFL, that has to be the most outrageous lie I have ever seen on this forum. The only people that play that game are fools who are soon parted with their money.

Everything to do with this game around big money player investments, huge returns and so on just sounds like total bullsh*t to me.

frankly i dont believe half the crap about this game, graphic wise it looks weak and the fact every major story is the same people makes me wonder if its just the game admins "buying" land
i mean god there was a story about a guy spending millions on a planet in the game.. with the way the world econ is right now i seriously do not see how that is possible o-O unless hes like bill gates
Would really need to see the numbers on that one before I lend it even the remote amount of credence. Until then, that quote is circular file material.
There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein

It's a virtual pyramid scheme. You have to invest a lot on money into the game in order to be able to produce anything of value in the hopes of selling it to other poor schmucks trying to make it rich in the game.
All the while the developers sit back and laugh as they create virtual content with a few clicks and sell it for hundreds if not thousands of dollars.
We're not forgetting anything. The word 'fun' just rarely comes up when people try to sell Entropia to others. Actually, most pro-Entropia expositions seem like they're about to lead into a time-share pitch or an invitation to Quixtar.

In the old days money was backed by gold and silver, real world items. But as societies and economies have become more complex, the idea of money has become more abstract. This purchase is shocking on the one hand, but on the other I think it just portends of things to come.
Outside of the gaming realm, people buy nontangibles all the time. Ideas have value to those that value ideas. The same could be said of virtual items. As the cyber realm evolves, expands and takes on greater significance in our lives, these types of purchases will be more common.

I'm certainly ignoring it. Just like I ignored Billy Mays, and just like I ignore pop ups telling me that I'm the 500th visitor. The game's a pyramid scheme - the people playing want YOU to come in under them. Sounds to me like you just need a few more years to get some real world experience.
Of course, if you insist, and call in the next 10 minutes, I'll double Ceridith's offer, and you can have two bridges for the price of one!
