People like to simply be around other people, whether they interact with them or not is another story. In that light, an MMO isn't much different from a bar or club, bish.

There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein

I can't speak for everybody here, but sometimes I just enjoy playing a simple game.  Yeah, point/click and hotkeys are definitely getting old, but every now and then I want to play just that.  The main difference between playing a single player game and playing an mmorpg solo, is the potential there.  People that usually appear to be avoiding others are just simply trying to play, which is what you're intended to do, right?  The ability to interact with others adds a whole new layer of depth to your character and provides a sense of achievement for things that would otherwise be meaningless.

To sum it up:  Whether you're playing solo in an MMORPG or not, the bottom line is that you will interact with others and that can't be recreated by any single player game.

just wish newer MMOs would create the feeling of co-exsistance, instead of everyone doing everything on their own, with exception of afew instances...the multiplayer interaction part of MMOs must be kept to a minimal at this point

and yep for one never found solo quests intresting in MMOs, always saw them as a way to kill time while looking for craft material, groups or just didnt have time for something that "mattered", Ive never played a MMO so far that were impossible to solo at all, but do think someone kicked the ball over the goal when decided to make soloing the preferable playstyle in MMOs

ya i think the question is why do you care if I play single player mmorpgs.

Having a great adventure is one thing.

Sharing a in great adventure is something completely different.

Even those who "play single player mmorpgs" occasionally play mmorpgs.

Some of us just feel more comfortable alone, and group when we're ready.

im actually waiting for a good sandbox mmorpg and i hate soloing. youre saying is stupid.

doesnt mean i cant appreciate single player rpgs. its just that when i play a mmorpg, i really want to be able to notice the MASSIVELY MULTIPLAYER ONLINE PART. i mean thats what i am paying $15/month for right

That's because you don't have the mental capacity to grasp it much like your OP

no im pretty sure i grasped, it just that you arewrong.

    Then explain it to me

While you are at it you can also explain why solo players affect you on a personal level. Did somebody turn you down recently that got you bummed out?

ok i see what this is about. you are a solo player and you see this thread as a personal attack. calm down, i dont hate you, i have nothing against u personally.  i just find that it doesnt make sense that you play mmorpgs for solo content when mmorpgs provide extremely poor solo content compared to single player rpgs.

    [Mod Edit]

Nice strawman but you are avoiding the question. What does the quote mean

On second thought maybe you should let this one be. It's a real brainteaser

Single player RPG's are just too quiet.  I like the social aspect of MMOs but the option to level on my own and queue for instances if I feel like it.

Once I hit the end of a SRPG I really don't want to replay it or play mods.

I used to group a ton in my early online gaming career, but as time has passed I tend to like soloing more now......THe problem is that it has been much harder to find people you can trust to group with anymore.......I either see people afking the second they join (ie bogarting XP without even playing) or they take all the loot and dont even try to be fair about it..... Also the XP often is less when grouped and unless you're killing at a frantic pace it isnt worth it......Another thing is almost every MMO since WoW has been made so easy that soloing is very plausible.

why dont all the themeparkers just play single player rpgs. if you want story and soloing, single player rpgs are made just for you. there isnt a single mmorpg out there that beats TES series at being a RPG. if you like RPG so much go play them, why do you want mmorpgs to play like SRPGs?

if you like pvp you could play LoL or DoTA or something like that.

what im trying to say is that modern themeparks are a combination of poorly done singleplayer RPG + poorly done instanced PVP. why not just play skyrim +DoTA 2. thats what i plan on doing until a proper mmorpg is released.

Pretty simple really like myself as well as many that i know, those that like to solo when they can also want to feel like they are apart of a living world filled with players.  like to solo or group based on how i am feelig, what my current activities are, and plan when i want to just relax, but also have the option to group up or talk with other players that are playing/populating the area around me. When i am online playing in whatever mmo i am playing at the time i spent more time talking/chating with other players in both guild chat or general chat, as i do spending time actually playing the game. No single player rpg will ever create that kind of feeling of being in a world populated by actual other players, that i can talk with, play with or against, and still allow that feeling of playing a rpg as well. Guess most of the other players from prior to eq daays do not understand that it is the fact fo wanting that feeling you get from games like pnp D&D or such, or that others just want to actually play with all f their friends in a game together that is actually feeling like a rpg in sorts. Why not go back to the older mmos that cater to you over trying to tell off the generation that has come from the popularity of mmos gained from eq era and up. There is enouph room for both styles of play in the market, but the issue is that the majority of players that seek a mmo more like those from prior to eq are both smaller in size as well as not really showing they want that to the marketplace.

There are many reasons, to play alone in an mmorpg (instead of playing an SRPG):

1.) Its an RPG. If i want to play the lone wolf, i can play it and the other players help me with this, because, i can avoid the,.

2.) Many SRPGs have a story-line, you have to do and there is an ending in these games. An MMoRPG will never end and you are free to do, what you want.

3.) You can compare directly with other players.

4.) If i play in a group, i have a responsibility and if i would do something wrong, bad things could happen to other groupmembers. If i play alone, there is not so much pressure and i neednt trst other players.

5.) I guess there are many more reasons. ;)

If you play a game, how you want to play it, you have to accept, that there are players, playing it a different way (of course as long as they respect the rules). You cant tell people, how to play!

    Stop using commas. It's horrifying.

And if this thread isn't proof that any of the decent mmorpg.com community that remained have up and left, I don't know what is.

Also mmo does not stand for a game that demands or forces you to play in a group or not,  but in a game that allows for the possiblity to interact with a massive number of players, and as such modern mmos deliver that fact well. You can chat with toher players in the game about nearly anything, you can group up with other players, or you can merely be part of a massive amount of players that are playing the same game in the same setting. It is the massive number of players that populate a game setting/world, and the ability to have the option to interact with other players that makes a mmo what it is. THose that seek to play a single player mmo may only seek to feel like a lone or unknown/un-important member of this world, that can become somethign more over time. Truly in mmos since it is in way ment to emulate the world at large, than it should allow for all styles of play to be largely viable, from soloing to grouping as well as the many style of combat or activities as well really.

Talk about a wonderful troll, bait, and switch move there OP.  People give reasons as to "Why people play single player mmorpgs" and you happily sling your negativety.  You asked a question, albeit a ridiculous one, and got your answer.

People enjoy playing with other people, regardless of the way in which they play the content.  It's a cold hard fact that every mmorpg gamer knows who still enjoys the genre.  It's an easy way to grade yourself on your accomplishments and have some sort of sportsmanship along the way.  Does your char dominate my char in Skyrim?  Who knows.  Does your char dominate my char in <insert random mmo>.  Let's see.  That option alone powers all mmorpgs against single player rpgs.
