Why not a mmorpg base on command and conquer games?

What do you guys think? You have the two sides to play as.I like the tiberan sun game alot.So base it on that maybe.I think it would by cool to drive a manmoth tank into a nod base and blow stuff up.Or even a nod stealth tank would be baddass.how about learning different skills. You could use a jet pack to get around like some of the ones in the games.

MMORTS have been tried before. They never do very well.

Either you have countless round-robin battles like Shattered Galaxy or you get all your stuff taken over while you sleep like 10Six.

    A brief description os each.

SG is a game wherein you buy and train and equip your units and your avatar, it is free but you suffer disadvantages for not paying. I currently play it I think it's the best of the MMORTS out right now. You bring up to 12 units(depending on how you leveled your avatar) to a battle at a time and you fight other people who also bring hteir units. You die and reinforce. The downsides are that as a newbie you'll get 'pwnt' a LOT by the uber regiments and uber players. The entire game revolves around the last 3 minuets of a 15 minuet battle. It is very casual player friendly. Graphics are sub-par to say the least.

10Six was a SEGA game reborn as Project Visitor. You run around on a hoverboard and you can bring a set worth of units depending on your level(getting to max units bringable isn't hard) to another player's camp. You build strucutres in your camps you claimed to defend them and to harvest Tritium with which you buy jitter packs that have blueprints in them for more structures units and weapons to equip them with. All in all a very fun game minus it's massive downsides.
You are REQUIRED to play Project Visitor 'hardcore' to get anywhere. If you don't play hardcore, or if you play on one of the losing factions, you WILL get everything you built taken away by uber players who will come n and raid your camps at 4am. If you play you MUST get into a good guild(MDNs) to survive, and to get into one you'll have to be a very hardcore player.

Oh boy was I ever off topic:) This wasn't about MMORTS at all....

A C&C MMORPG might be tried, but I doubt it. WoW and EQII and the upcoming games have pretty much a lock on all the current players....Making a MMORPG costs a LOT of cashola. Unlikely to see a C&C game anytime soon.(Next 5-6years at least)

    Zug Zug.

(BTW I remember a game...forgot the name...where 1 person would kinda RTS, place buildings and give orders while everyone else on the team did stuff like kill the other side and build the buildings and kill NPCs for some sort of resource...everything was done by smacking it around with your sword I remember that.  The guy you started off as reminded me of an indian...  Anyway, whatever game that was, I'm sure someone will remember, give it a shot; it was...interesting.)

    More wood?

World of Warcraft is coming out with battlegrounds. It's basically an instanced mini-game of warcraft3 MMO style. We'll see how it plays out, I'll be impressed if they can pull it off and make it both fun and challenging instead of a big zerg-fest.

Problem is, with a RTS game, you are in control of the whole battlefield. You have your sense of accomplishment. MMORPG players want to explore and level; gain power, skills and leet items. What sense would you gain in any of these catagories from being a lonely soldier on the battlefield? Would it be more like Conquer mode in MechAssault 2 on the XBox or would you really try and 'stretch' it into the MMO mold? It could be fun if done well, but is it even possible?

There already is a MMOG that has some of these aspects: World War II Online! Two sides fighting for control of territory in a WWII environment.

For most players its a MMO-FPS and WWII vehicle SIM, but higher ranking players have also some RTS features they control: they post missions for other players to join, decide which cities to attack, which vehicles to research next, adjust production numbers of different vehicles etc.

Soldiers fight together for victory of their side, to capture cities and conquer the game world.

Its possible and a C & C game would be cool als well.

This game already exists. Its called Planetside.
Its like RTS but u are one of the many AIs.

U can leran skills and drive different vehicles/use different weapons depending on your skills.

And if you want to be more of a strategic battle planner or command your own squad (10 peeps) or platoon (3 x 10 peeps i think), you get tools for this as well.

    Enjoy!

I read they're busy working on Red Alert 3 now. My all-time fav was Red Alert 2, Generals had better graphics but I missed having naval units and the game was longer too.

    Shaikura,

I'm playing it since its release and like it very much. :) Its the first virtual MMO-Battlefield.

WWIIOL is for You if You like WWII and WWII Sims and teamwork on small and larger scale.

There are some other MMO-FPS as well:

Planetside...I haven't played that. Then there is also Neocron 2 and Face of Mankind Open Beta. MMOGs, where two or more factions fight each other in FPS-Style.

You can get infos about all these games in the appropriate forums and game info pages here.

No they wouldn't. In Renegades they had computer controlled Harvesters.

If you like that idea try planetside... it's a persistant fps with tactical elements. Kinda fun for a change of pace imo.
