Now that i confirmed that there is not a mmorpg out there worth puting my money in (Bit bored of EvE...giving it the monthly break to relax a bit. AION is free and im having a bit of fun), GW2 is almost cooked and i cant wait to sink my teeth in it, i turn to other games i feel they are worth to follow and repop really looks promising.
I could say i visited the repop home site, but i would be telling a lie. Only have patience to visit mmorpg.com, but i promise ill register in the site (if theres a register option ofc) and sign up the alpha test as soon i have my machine towed down for repairs.
While i wait, and i know theres a programmer working with A&B that visits this site, i got couple of questions:
1. How will the game be handling loot system? Can we expect a traditional loot system ( plz...i hope nop ) or can we expect something original or at least something that feels unique and true to the games background lore?
A. NPC loot: will this exist in game? What is its primary functionality? Random unnecessary trash to utility items, or will it have a specific item target or crafting relation?
B. Player loot: so Earth is in the midst of a civil war, manking in the edge of extinction, seems to me that "survival" is the key word here. When someone says "survival" we got to add "fight for primary resources"...."and if you dont have them....steal them for your neighbour". Is A&B thinking on adding a player loot system, one that actually can impact your game experience (EvE online is king here) or we cant even hope for that?

We don't have any junk loot so NPCs will mostly only drop something if it makes sense. Most non humanoid NPCs will drop nothing unless it is setup for a mission and you use an extraction ability on it to get useable resources from the corpse (such as a nail or hide for an example). You gain profeciency with these different npcs from killing and extracting them, so it is an important part of the process. Right now you can just walk up to a dead corpse and extract away, but it will be setup in a similar round robin/safe fashion as you see most loot setups because of the way this works.
As far as player looting, we will feature at least 2 type of ruleset servers and the 'normal' servers will not have player looting/stealing. We will have a 2nd ruleset server that we are caling 'hardcore' for the time being that will have full loot outside of the early safe areas and other mechanisms in place for the crowd that is looking for that style of game. We will probably play around with a cloning rule in those servers if you are outside of a cloning facilities range you will have to go back to whatever version of yourself you saved last at a cloning facility. Might be a bit extreme (not exactly permdeath), but we will see come around Beta stages once those servers launch for testing.

Better not be pay to win. If it is, I can assure you, it won't last long. But best of luck! And this looks like it'd be fun to play, you can in fact walk into all the buildings and interact with smaller objects right? As in, sitting on chairs etc..
As for that sandbox meets themepark thing, that's what we have ArcheAge for, to tear down all the US sandboxes if/when it hits the West, so you guys can't take shortcuts in that sector, but who knows? You've got time.
It won't be play to win. That annoys us as much as everyone else.
There will likely be convenience items (such as field repair kits, etc), along with account upgrades (more inventory, more bank space, character slots, etc), and cosmetic items (new hair styles, clothing looks, titles, etc). There will also likely be some learning stims which will increase the speed at which you can gain skill points, our version of experience potions. We're looking at smaller increments of gain though in this case. Rather than potions that give you double speed, you might see stims that give a 25% increase, which is actually a smaller increase than you can get from grouping and is currently an equal increase to what you get in dangerous areas.
90% of your players are going to be free players, you don't want them to feel as though they are inadequate. But at the same time you do need some money incoming in order to keep the servers running. What we'll be trying to do is to provide players with an incentive to use the cash shop, but while at the same time not giving them an unfair advantage over free players.
