Consumerist.com a partner with Consumer Reports voted EA as worst company in America.

http://consumerist.com/2012/04/congratulations-ea-you-are-the-worst-company-in-america-for-2012.html

I really don't know where to start with this. This is not some pee on gaming site and over 250,000 voters puts our Xfire debate to shame. People actually voted a gaming company in a land slide as the worst company in America. 2nd place is Bank of America which helped put us in this depression LOL and it didn't even come close.

The fanbois are going to go gray explaining this one away. Maybe there really are more TOR haters than we thought and add in the Mass Effect 3 controversy and EA has gone nuclear.

I know there is much more to it than 2 controversial games this year like the Maiden football scandal and sweat shop labor accusations, but for a totally non gaming related company to run a poll and have over 250,000 people to vote a gaming company worst company in America over in a land slide over companies like Bank of America leaves me flabbergasted.

Im not a fanboy and I can give you a logical answer that applies to all games.  There aren't more haters then supporters, just more haters on the internet then supporters.

I wouldn't call EA the worst company, but it could be considered the most hated.

You could say BoA has done a lot of damage to people, but after thinking about it, If EA were running a bank, how much worse would they have been than BoA??? In that light, yeah EA would get my vote.

You put a poll on the internet and one of those options concerns those who are the majority of the internet and...people are surprised at the end result? Now put that same poll in Wallstreet Journal or in Time and the results would be nothing of the sort. Using that poll to describe a disconnect the 'country' has is silly considering it is in no way indicative of the country as a whole, just a fraction of the internet audience that gave a crap about one particular game and flooded the poll because of it.

If EA were a bank, they'd let you open your checking account for $50, but using a check would be considered DLC.

Additionally, they would announce that you can in fact get a credit card with your account, however it is considered day 1 DLC and will cost an additional $20 to get.

Lastly, you will also have a savings account that you leave money in for years, only to discover at the end that it only had a .0001% interest rate.

i think i said it before and say it again. EA didnt get the poo award for being a bad gamemaker. EA got the poo award for being the worst company in general. Business related, not game specific. So when it comes to business EA seems to be worse than Bank of America or any other company. Bad business practice is bad no matter what you do for a living. The games arent involved in the problem. is the business practice.

This is such a ridiculous thread. Why does anyone who likes the game have to explain anything? If people enjoy it, who cares if EA is hated or not? Whats your motive for the thread? To change peoples minds who like it? I don't get some of you.

Maybe if you take a deep breath, stop hyperventilating and read what I posted, you will see that I think the award is nuts. Why would a video game company win a worst award over a company that knowingly engaged in practices that make people homeless? I think it's nuts and worries me deeply if society is has come to its ok to make me homeless but don't mess with my hobbies.

I posted it because it's the parent company of the infallible TOR so its applicable here, but I guess since it's not the 'vocal minority of hate mongering gamer forum users' and actually is the majority of users in a reputable business website, you cant just excuse it away to hate trolls. I did not post this to spur more hate but to simply inform and discuss. Is that why your so upset by it? You can't come up with anything excuse this away? Fanboy is too strong? Just asking since you came across pretty strong at me

Ever thought that it might not just be angry gamers that voted for EA?

EA isn't exactly known to be a good employer!  Just saying.

Exactly! I seriously doubt those voters are all TOR and Mass Effect 3 butt hurts. I don't see the (if any) parameters that were used for the poll. "which company is the absolute worst company in America" is very general. To be a gaming company their reputation has to go far beyond disappointing games and controversial paid DLC content. Heavy handed exclusives, competitor buyouts, questionable labor practices, conflicts with royalties and such must have made many waves in the business world to beat out major banks, investment firms and companies outsourcing employment.

That's exactly how I see it. When a hollywood junkie keels over, it's a big deal yet when a soldier loses his or her life in combat, nary a word gets mentioned. Kudos to the poster who brought up the US Government.

And to all the haters out there I have to ask: Do you really think a razzie award means anything in the grand scheme of things? As long as people continue to buy EA games it means nothing. People have been trashing wal-mart for years because of their company policies yet people still shop there.

Erm, dont all banks do these things anyway?

I know some banks nowadays charge you for your cheque book (correct spelling ;) )

Lots of Credit Cards have a monthly charge

Many savings accounts have a rubbish interest rate.

The Sims will be a part of it as well as the sports franchises I suspect - huge userbase.

And regardng The Sims "every" patch messes something up; it is awash with memory leaks; in idle (not doing anything) it takes gigabytes of memory and huge amounts of CPU; running is far worse and they want to sell you fluff every week (OK slight exageration but not much).

Then there is Origins - lets just say that at the moment it is far from slick.
