Hello guys,
I'm trying this game out now and I already know that I'll play it after lvl 20...
What I wanted to know is your honest opinions of the game, what you think about classes and what advices can you give to a newcomer ?
Thank you!

It's fun for a while... at least a month or two and then it's okay for something to do for a bit longer than that.
If you're thinking about playing rift over say, watching TV, then go for it.
If you're thinking about playing rift over spending time with the hot chick that lives two houses down then grab a heavy object and smash your computer with it until those thoughts pass.
Hahaha Yea, mostly over watching TV or stuff like that... Just to kill my time ...

I don't play Rift at the moment but I played for almost 6 months and have to say it's one of the best games I've played for years.
I'm more of your sandbox and open world PvP player though and that's Rift's (and many other games) downfall.
I played two characters up to 50 when Rift was released, did some raiding and dungeons then stopped because I don't like the end game grind for gear. I played SWtoR on release, got bored very quickly and now i've just subbed to Rift again. Ember Isle and the new Planer Attunement system (Rift's AA) for 50s are holding my interest. There is plenty to do after level 50 but it's more than just playing when you have a minute. Up to 50 it's very solid and you'll enjoy casual soloing, at 50 get ready for hard core play or you will feel inadequate and get fed up quickly. If you throw yourself into it and find a good guild you'll have a great time.
I started a new character on the Guardian side as well. Low level zones are fairly quiet but the game itself is so rich and intuitive that it keeps you playing.
I also prefer sandbox and funnily enough after playing SWtoR Rift felt like a sandbox game, lol.
Thanks!
Do you know what's the ratio with race population on servers? is it around 50:50?

What do you mean? Race of characters or races of players? Race doesn't count for much in Rift, you get a couple of racial skills but they don't really effect gameplay much. All races can play all classes and souls etc... and use all items so the spread is fairly even.
Hehe, didn't even notice what nonsence I wrote... I ment factions

RIFT is currently my favorite MMO (my previous was LOTRO, currently my second fave). It's one of the few MMOs I stick with long enough to get to max level.
I really enjoy it - it provides a good feeling of "progression" in terms of achievements, gear, etc...heck, I even like the PvP (warfronts at least), and I don't normally like PvP!
The downsides are that lore/questing is not in your face (you have to choose to read or research lore if you care about that), the progression grind might bore you at times post-50, and if you wanted a non-humanoid species, there aren't any playable (though IMHO the female models are the most attractive in any MMO save TERA to me...you might like if you like female chars).
The game should run well on most modern machines, and I rarely have technical problems.
If you're like most people, you'll play it until 50 and then quit. While they have improved end game since last year, in my opinion, it's still extremely boring. The raiding is some of the worst i've ever participated in. I'm certainly not alone either since they went from 58 servers at release to 15 servers now. If you like it, more power to you but prepare to likely be disappointed when you hit 50.
You are in fact alone. Don't feel bad, everyone is in the end.
@OP Rift STARTS at 50 and you'll find many months of things to keep busy. Check out some of the other threads as far as things to do.
hey there
So i am currently playing Rift its a blast, the one MMO that i have played the most in recent times.
What sets this game appart from any and everything else is the Planar attunement system that you hit when you reach lvl 50
there is so much 2 do and so much 2 gain / unlock!
I can say, this game blows me away
And i have played most games out there, but this one shines
We will have 2 see what happens when GW2 / Tera and TSW comes out, but I can bet you that
Rift is here 2 stay
Most impressive Dev team on an MMO i have ever seen
They fix problems quickly and their game works
I played Rift up to Lv. 30.
1-20 was actually pretty interesting. I was actually awe struck by my first rift invasion. Unfortunately after the 3rd or 4th one it just became more of an annoyance as the luster had worn off and all my quest NPCs wound up dying.
After level 20 things also became rather dull in my opinion. The soul system doesn't give much room for experimentation or for spreading points between souls. Most people, I found, end up primarly using only 2 of the 3 souls available to them because you dont get enough points to split very well between 3.
There's also the famed "one button macro" builds. At first I just refused to create one for my character, but after a while it became apparent that if I wanted to remain competitive, it was more or less necessary, although technically I had 2 macros (one to spam for single-target fighting, one to spam for multi-target fighting).
I would loved to have tried the game before the soul system. The original idea really had an impressive sound to it...guess it didn't work out in practice, though. I'm not sure if it was because it was flawed, or if the community didn't like it because it was unfamiliar.
The mounts are cool. I loved the free spider I got when I subbed.
Anyway, if you enjoy it past 20, great. Wasn't my cup of tea, though.
While we have no diagreements, Rift is my fall back game. Sadly I think these forums illustrate that those same complaints generally apply to every game out there. Rift is a fine way to pass some time until something better comes along I guess. I have played it since the beginning. The first day I remember they had such a rush, they just kept opening servers one after another. The world was awash in free turtle mounts, you couldn't see the quest givers. It was a sea of turtle mounts. The proud staff posted these words that flashed across the screen,"You like us! You really like us!". That game's staff are among the nicest you will find in any game. My major complaint with Rift is the pvp. They are getting an update in the next couple of days that has fishing and cooking. A good way to pass more time till something better comes along. I don't work there or have an uncle that does.
Ballerinas are always on their toes. Why don't they just get taller ballerinas?
It's because Rift was really well done. The biggest overall complaint is not production, development or service, It's lack of originality.
I too am looking forward to fishing and cooking. I enjoyed those in WoW. I'll take them in Rift, but I am disappointed they are virtually cut N paste skills from WoW.
As far as a Thempark MMO, it's the best available. (IMO) And yes, it needs to break away from the traditional into something all it's own. Idunno, maybe something more Riftlike?
OP it is important to ignore silly Rift fanbois like this one. Going from 1 million subscribers to 200k in a year speaks for itself.
It's also important to ignore people making shit up. Hammerknell was one of the best raid instances ever made but it's important to remember it was made for the 5% crowd in it's initial iteration(completely nerfed now). ID will continue that philosophy, so if you're ok with needing to be in a top raiding guild to complete content, then Rift is for you.
One of the main problems with Rift is blandness.
The most exciting thing about Rift is supposed to be the dynamicly created content which is random and spontaneous. But after you do a few of them they just end up being 'another' grind and fall into the background.
The raiding is alright. The dungeons are a little under the quality you would get from World of Warcraft which isn't terrible at all.
The graphics are pretty dull loooking and kind of just add in to that "blandness" of the game.
A lot like WoW they develoepd a system designed to allow you to do what you want speccing wise. But just like WoW everyone sort of just goes one min/max spec and those that do not fall behind.
Rift isn't a terrible game and it's not a great game. It's about average. As stated originally it is bland. Don't spend all your time on this game expecting something revolutionary or amazing. It is an average MMO and if you want one to spend your time on it'll be worth your time

Here is some good advice for Rift when it comes to this site do no listen to anyone. Go try for yourself because it really is cheap as dirt to play. Most of the douches still trolling this game have not played in 11 months or more, so their opinions are mostly shit.
They are the same derps who will rush GW2 then cry when they realize the game is missing half the features launched with or these are the same derps that told you to blindly jump into TOR and now they take the high road saying they warned everyone.
There are a lot of builds posted on the main site for various specs you can play that are raid viable. It is very easy to pick up and go. The dev communication is pretty solid from when most of the derps played, so issues are address in hours and not months. If something seems off a lot of people are cool with explaining the issue and why it might not work.
Thank you guys for sharing the information and your opinions. Based on the informations I've been given on this forum and from the website I tought I'd give it a shot first with this trial client.
I've started to play the game few days ago and I kinda like it... It's fun and fast to pick up, for now, so I probably will continue my adventure and see how it goes next.
It looks like it's a good game when I compare it to my previous mmorpgs which I've played but I'll see it when I play more than just a few days

Awesome to have you playing. Any questions go ahead and ask. Just be warned on mmorpg.com it will look like the following:
1. Some sandbox fan will try and convince you are wrong for liking a themepark game and use examples from 6 years ago about how great those games were when devs gave a shit. Then he will say Eve is the best Sandboz ever with little to no evidence and then post some shit link about plex whatever that is.
2. Next up will be the infamous GW2 fanboi convinging you should quit Rift now in preparation for GW2 which comes out [insert mystery date here that keeps getting moved for the past 2 years here] because that game will rule them all.
3. My personnel favorite will be the guy who played Rift in Beta back in December 2010 who's expert opinion should inlfluence how you view the world of mmo gaming.
4. Finally will be me whenever I get around to hitiing refresh on the Rift forum
5. After that will be a mmorpg.com mod either issuing me a warning for cursing out the above 3 or closing the thread for violating like 6 rules this site has.
WELCOME TO RIFT!
Also events at max level can be tons of fun. Juggle it.

For me, RIFT was a "kinda like it" game. It wasn't the next BIG game but it was a game good enough to pass the time for the next game (hopefully, a better game)
Proud MMORPG.com member since March 2004! Make PvE GREAT Again!
so what you are saying is: you are the only person on mmorpg.com who actually likes the game? Sounds about right. (Kidding, mostly)
Rift seems to have the highest percentage of 3-monthers that Ive ever seen. Lots of people start out loving the game, start their sub, then somewhere in the second month start to falter and are gone by the end of the third month.
Rift was an almost hit. They had a window to release a kick ass expansion pack giving the world more size and the game more soul, but they have missed that chance and Rift will most likely remain a low-mediumish title. Theres enough people that love it besides puremallace but for the majority that have tried its lacking something that ties people into games long term.
