make sure the headset you chose have good mic sound sadly most i hear sound bad!might want to find a audiophile site that specialise in headphone and mic or you might have to by a seperate mic like some made from a company like heil!

The review list you posted seems inaccurate, namely because they have the Megladon at number 7 and its a shoddy piece of junk. I have never tried the Astro's , so I can't comment on them. I would stress getting a true 5.1 system never the less ... it makes a difference to my ears, it might to yours.

My suggestion is get a 5.1 home theater system and buy a separate mic, if you are playing at home ofcourse. The good thing of 5.1 is that the sound comes where it would come from if you were inside the game and this is awesome and also useful because you some times indentify enemie's location this way. If you're not playing home or have a problem with loud sounds just search for headset at a shop you use to buy electronics because even if someone suggest you a nice one maybe you'ii not find it in your country.

I have 5.1 home theater, NVIDIA High Definition Audio card, and I use my laptop's built-in mic. I really enjoy the gameplay.

Razer headset that I use.  I have no issue with sound, and it's pretty comfy to wear for long periods of time.

Forget about gaming Headsets....the sound quality and especially the build quality is often just really bad,  brands like sennheiser, logtiech, the terrible medusa 5.1 or whatever. I bought several gaming Headsets in the last ten years and they often quickly broke, the sound wasnt that great either.

The best is to buy HiFi Stereo Headphones, the sound is a lot better and the build quality aswell. I have my HiFi Headpohones for around 3-4 years already without any problems.

If you are looking for good quality headsets with really good sound, some insider tipps from a HiFi Forum:

Some time ago the AKG K530 in white was an insider tipp on HiFi Forums which I own myself, great sound for a  low price which I recommand to you.

Superlux  HD-681B or HD-668B or without B, really low price - superlux HD681 has the same or even better sound quality like the Logitech G35 with only 1/4 of the price. The others brands offer superior sound.

Creative Aurvana Life - my recommandation with the Zalman micro for gaming with more bass

Shure 440,  fine and good headphones with good sound

    Beyerdynamic DT770

Beyerdinamics DT990 pro -  both really good ones

Slightly higher in price and of course not the only ones but with even better sound quality:

Ultrasone HFI 580 - excellent stereophony

    Shure SRH840

Of course there are much more expensive HiFi Headsets available but they last for at least ten years.....just look into such Forums where you will find audiophile freaks.

And if you need a microphone, get one from Zalman i.e. ZM-MIC1 is really good for around 10$ or the ModMic

I love my Logitech G35. If this one ever broke, I'd get another one in a heartbeat. After about 10 different headsets, these are the only ones I have ever been able to stand.

    1. The Logitech G35 . It's not True surround sound, so the quality will be a touch lacking compared to True 5.1 systems. For the money its easily the best purchase. I've never had a G35 fail on me or any of my mates who own one.

    2. The Triton Ax Pro 5.1 : An equally nice headset, the sound quality is much better than the G35's. The only thing lacking on these sets are the build quality. Alot of the materials feel flimsy and break. There is also an issue with the Mic's something like 1/10 are Doa. If the price on this set was substantially lower it would easily take first.

    3. The Roccat Kave 5.1 : Theres a review up on these very forums, needless to say I mirror his review and am very pleased with my Roccat headset. It's now my primary set and replaces the Triton, at a superior quality.

I would steer clear of ANY of the Turtle beach headsets which are driven via Usb and marketed for Consoles AND Pc. I tried three different models and every one was horrible. I would also avoid the Razer Megladon ... over priced and poor quality.

Actually the 5.1 Headsets are overrated and dont offer the same sound quality like HiFi Stereo Headphones do.

Actually the 5.1 Headsets are overrated and dont offer the same sound quality like HiFi Stereo Headphones do. The Roccat 5.1Headset is famous for noise by the way. The only good ones are those with true surround and not emulated.

Listen to this video with STEREO Headsets and you will notice that it is a lot about sound recording, actually you will hear "5.1" with a Stereo headphone

One of the best Headsets is probably the MMX300 from beyerdynamic, which is around 300€  (around 400 $ US) but competes with 150€ HiFi Stereo Headphones when it comes to sound quality. But the microphone alone on this MMX300 is over 100€, which isnt worth it since good quality micros from Zalman are around 10 bucks.

Our ears only hear in STEREO and thats why it is not suprising that the High End Headphones are all in Stereo and not in 5.1/7.1, even High End Headsets i.e. MMX 300 is in stereo.

You will find discussions about a G35 from Logitech in comparison to a 25€ Stereo Headphone, where the Headphone is superior to the G35, in this case the 25€ headphone Superlux HD681. Which has also allegedly better sound in comparison to the Roccat.

conclusion: All the audiophile fans who are really into sound quality will recommand you a good quality Stereo Headphone with an additional extern microphone if you need it. I did buy a lot of headsets before (stereo and 5.1) and did notice the difference aswell, hifi stereo headphones are just superior. The thing is that 5.1 headsets have several speakers, no wonder the quality suffers since so many need to be build in. Headsets in general are just overpriced.

Video - VIRTUAL BARBER SHOP - Listen with a STEREO Headphone please

This is another great video which I suggest to listen to, but just with STEREO headphones =)

And last but not least, you will see the limit of surround sound, this is a video with 3D sound about a dentist, but your teeths are not in your head hehe...this doesnt work.
