The housing system seems pretty neat.

There is one whole region that seems devoted to housing.

Every plaeyr gets a studio apartment and there are various "quests" that act as tutorials to show you how to use it. You get a skill so you can port to your house and it's on a cooldown. Or you can travel to the island, run to your neighborhood and use the front gate.

Each area is nice but each area gets progressively more posh.

the studio is free and you dno't have to pay for it other than furnishings, wall coverings, etc.

I suspect the other areas have larger and fancier houses.

It's not quite open world where each person has their own house. It seems that each area has some sort of structure where people can go in and get to their own space.

There is a butler and youc an program him to do things when you enter or interact with him. You can place furniture anywhere you want by registering it, clicking on the icon in the window where it resides (after registration) and then it appears in the room to be moved.

Youc can rotate items. you can lie in a bed or sit in a chair.

You can have music on. You can port to the house of anyone in your friend's list. youc an also open your house to everyone or no one.

The studio has a nice view of a lake. image

I couldn't find anything recent on official forums so maybe my ISP was playing up. I'm playing from UK.

Will give it another go later this evening. Thanks for your response.

Just finished downloading, created acc and logged in. (Gameforge verion..EU btw).

Really nice character creation system that has tons of variety and the ability to create some really disturbing freaks.

    Hit start.

Spent 5 minutes trying to get a reply to the question "how do I block these f£$*@ng gold spammers?"

    Tried /block...hooray worked.

Replied to several other newbies such as myself who were asking the same question.  Spent 15 minutes typing /block.

Started playing my warrior witha bad taste in my mouth.

Logged out for something to eat, rejoined spent another 15 mins typing /block as other spammers had joined the party.

All the while reading rage posts about above and the fact there were no G.M's kicking these asshats out.

Regardles of updates, patches and groovy stuff, these spamming bastards do the game no favours for first timers.

Started first quest...targeted mob....clicked sword.....sat back and watched my toon turn into a bot and autopath/fight for me.  Got bored so changed animation by hitting a skill button whilst drinking a mug of coffe and chatting to other people in the room.

    People subbed this  0.o?????????

Will carry on in the hope that it gets better but I aint holdin me breath.

Well, it does, And certinaly for a warrior and espeically if you are using a two handed weapon. The problem with Aion and perhaps many games, is that they need to be able to speak to the noob as well as the veteran.

And I'm not speaking to a "noob" in a particular game, I'm talking about someone who has never played a video game such as an mmo. So the first combat is just easy and dul.

I can't promise that the combat is like Tera but it's fun and I enjoy my sorcerer. I also have a warrior and use a two handed weapon and find that a blast.

I haven't played since the first few months after it released but is PvP mandatory or can you PvE from 1 to level cap now that there are supposed to be alot more quests with the introduction of 3.0?

Thanks so much for your write up!!

Rifting is pretty much dead now days with the huge debuffs you get when you enter enemy territory in regular qusting zones.

so yea it's pretty much a pve game with pvp restricted to the Abyss and the new high level pvp zone.

  • sharpshadesharpshade Member UncommonPosts: 58

Nice! So you're not forced to quest through the Abyss and PvP? There's enough PvE quests to get you from 1 to level cap? If this is the case I'll be downloading and playing!  =)

I got bored with Aion a couple of months after launch but thought I would give it another try last weekend since its now F2P.

Got as far as downloading and running the patcher (Eu version) before it started spewing out errors which meant I couldnt install it.

Im pretty computer savvy(work in tech support) so I spent about an hour arsing around trying to get it to work and finally after moving and renaming files, downloading files using the torrent in the install folder through utorrent rather than the patcher and other fun and games got it to start patching.

I have a fast internet connection - 50Mb/sec so I can get throughput of around 5MB/sec. The patcher was downloading at less than 50k/sec.

Left it running overnight and when I checked in the morning it was still downloading at a stupidly slow speed and was at 3%.

At this point I gave up. First impressions: not good.

yes definately enough quests to reach level cap without getting into pvp. however end level content is still heavely pvp oriented.

Awesome thanks so much for replying so quickly! Downloading now, at 50% and going slooow haha! I've been looking to get into something until the release of GW2 and I think Aion will do nicely! Thanks again OP for the great write up and thanks Jak for answering my questions!  =)

It was nothing fresh, it was just like every other fantasy themed MMO i've played in recent years. I didn't see anything that was awful either, just nothing that made me say. "Oh, Hey! this is cool!"

Some people say, you have to play a game in order to speak on it, I disagree. A game has minutes to grab you and if it's F2P and it fails to grab you, it sits. and That's what this game did. I may get around to try it again someday, but I'm in no hurry.

yea same thing here,  grab your sword press 1 and than 2 mob dead , rinse repeat over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again. Vanguard F2P coming soon and Tera right around the corner for some interesting combat at least

That kinda bites.  If it hadn't been for the rifts, I would have quit at least a month sooner than I did.  I ruined the day of many a white-feathered player back in the day..  Good times..  Until the inevitable raid of 50's that would come eventually and cut me down.  But that was all part of the fun - especially seeing how many of them i could kill (ha, if any).

I have no plans of trying Aion again, but I wish it the best of luck.  I still have my collector's edition box collecting dust somewhere..

No debuffs on the new server, so rifting is very much alive.   However, it's full of power leveled vets beating down on inexperienced noobs.

Some questions from someone who played the (unlimited) trial a few months ago.

    1. Did they fix the grind? I managed to get to level 10 before losing interest. Everything boiled down to kill X collect Y.

    2. Is flight more prominent now? At level 10, you get your wings. For a game which touts flight as one of its central features the game would allow you to fly in more areas and for longer than 60 seconds. Can you fly in the cities and dungeons and such now?

    3. How soloable is it? Both the Templar and Spiritmaster I played, supposedly solo-friendly classes, were meh. Again, only got to level 10 so maybe they get better later, but I was having to rest and heal every second mob, this wasn't fun.

Remember, it has to be fun to be a game. Grinding is a bedroom activity, and the point is definitely not to do my wife as fast as possible.

    1. yes they fixed the grind...however if you consider questing as grind then go play a FPS (no levels = no grind!)

    2. no flight is the same,. restricted as much as humanly possible and a nuiscence.

    3. seriously mmorpg may not be a game genere your really interested in....plenty of types of games offer your points #1 and #3 and do it quite well....perhaps your barking up the wrong tree with mmorpgs?
