Explain?  Maybe you'll convert people to your side!  Just saying 'I think she's fake' isn't really useful though. :/

its the same problem with finding anything on google.. you find the most popular links and usually it doesn't even apply. I have no source because I cannot remember the links to things I have read( I did try) and most of it is feelings.. watching her.. seeing her in person, reading about her. Part of it is that I can relate better to her being a woman and "know" from that mixture of impression and fact that she is a fake.. and reading the thread I am not the only one.. so I am not crazy =P ok maybe a little bit ;) Bottom line I am a LOUSY debater and it shows here.. I tried to make my point, offered up a carrot(Faye Mata) so I would get less OMG YOUR JUST JEALOUS posts and still got them. This is me pretty much raising the white flag.. I can't offer anything else.

Yeah, I have to say I can't exactly agree with your assessment of Miss Day.

I think you and others are making far too much of this "gamer girl" thing. And for the record, I don't think Felicia Day is a die hard "gamer gyrl"

She explains that she used to be a huge WoW fan and it sort of took over her time so she weened herself from it. She then decided to work on her acting career and when she discoverd that there weren't any great ways to "break into" the business she decided to take matters into her own hands and create a show on something she knows and can relate to.

You see, for me, this rings true and makes sense. What do I care if her show took off due to hard work and it having a certain resonance to "gamers".

She comes across as more of a real person to me than someone who just identifies with "one thing".

    I mean, "am I a gamer"?

Well, I certainly like to post about it. I spend a lot of money maintaining a game computer and I am constantly hunting for news on games that I might like. I've tried just about every mmo released and can speak on role playing games adn strategy games wiht a decent amount of knowledge.

But in truth, if I was to make a web show about gaming and it became a hit I can assure you that by your definition people would be calling me a "fraud" because I don't talk games 24/7. As a matter of fact you would never know I even play video games if we met on a street or in a pub and we spent an evening talking.

I love going to PAX but one can easily pick me out in the crowd as one of the few people not going after swag, not carrying a game boy or psp and certainly not willing to stand for 2 hours to play or attend anything.

I think it's fine for someone to love something and make a career about it and not be wholely defined by that one thing.

To me it makes a more rounded and a more interesting person. And that to me does not speak of fraud, it speaks to me of someone who has different interests.

As a last note, I passed by Felicia Day at PAX, about 2 feet or less and my thought was "oh, that girl looks a lot like Felicia Day, maybe even is Felicia Day. Looked like a perfectly good, pretty young woman, no "hot model" or anything but a realistic person just enjoying herself at a convention.

    works for me.

Yeah, i have to agree with you there. I was once completely infatuated with a coworker. When I pointed her out to a female friend of mine she balked "really? her? she has such a round face!"

Which of course suprised me as her face was fine and by no way would she be considered anytnig but slim. I thought it was an odd thing to say.

yep! but we choose our battles. It is balancing our Western Metaphysical Dualism (yes, thats a real term hehe) with our surroundings.

As somebody with art as a hobby, i think it's interesting all the various ways people can be attractive.  It's really a pretty complex and mysterious thing, and after a lot of deliberation, I've decided that a lot of people can be shifted into the 'attractive appearance' category if you have the right mindset.  I'm not too good at drawing, but sometimes I try to capture that in drawings... round faces, prominent noses, eyes that are squinty... I dunno.  There's all sorts of ways a feature that some might consider bad, can actually be attractive fromt he right viewpoint. :/

Honestly, this one impresses me less than felicia day does. Ive turned down better. That and i seriously have to question the idea that this girl is genuinely a gamer girl as opposed to a girl that simply plays games. Aside from the fact that this picture is obviously desperate pandering, i have trouble taking this girl seriously as a gamer when she shows such disrespect to all this stuff with the way she just has it strewn around. A real gamer would be appalled at the idea of treating thier games or game systems this way. Especially these older ones i see here. In this picture she is treating them all like crap.

heh I picked that specific pic for those that WANTED to see that.. google(photos) her.. and google Felicia Day they don't have a great amount of difference in photos that are suggestive or trying to be sexy... Hell Felicia shows way more skin that Faye.. bikini shot? wet t shirt shot? As to Faye's gaming she has a regional championship in gaming as well as other wins. Kat Gunn who I mentioned before was a national champion http://games.ign.com/articles/731/731366p1.html IGN interview with her.

    More true than we realize.

    I've told this one before:

Many years back, while out on the T (Boston Subway) the most beautiful woman I've ever seen EVER, came on the train.

And I wasn't the only one who noticed. The entire train got "quiet" when this woman walked on. I mean, she was practically "otherworldy"

In any case, the train gradually got louder as people went back to their own business. When the train made the next stop a guy got on who the woman knew.

"blah blah blah" or whatever blurted out of her mouth as I went from practically averting my eyes so as not to be burned to "ugh really?"

Her voice and what she said was so common, so annoying as to make her beauty mean nothing. If I had to listen to her for 5 mintues I would probably go mad.

People don't realize that beauty is composed of many different things and it's very possible to see somenoe who would be considered average and as you get to know them you come to realize how hot they realy are. Oh sure they aren't going to be a model but it's knowing the "whole" of them that really makes it.

OMG I actually laughed out loud, hadn't thought of it this way... I dunno most of the guys I game with didn't(I say in the past because I am not playing anything where I can compete atm) have an issue with me beating them on the DPS meters while leading the raid =P Hmmm but now that you mention it I think when my husband had chosen to stop DPSing and went tank it might have been a thorn in his side.

Since this thread is now about gamer girls...

I think the ones who "keep it real" and refuse to turn into some nerdy/bimbo stereotype are awesome.  A down to earth attitude and a genuine personality are 100x hotter than a 36-24-36.

  • SkuzSkuz Member UncommonPosts: 1,018

    Females lol.

So much of their distaste for other females is purely because they are getting more attention than themselves.

    Look inside & you'll know it's true.

Well, yeah, but your average gamer isn't up to the standards of the competitive gaming scene, that was pretty much my point, haha.

People want somebody who is about as good as them, because that's more sharing the hobby.

If the other person is WAY better than you, it's not really that fun. :/

I'm confident I could do "ok" in competitive gaming...but I just dont have a hugely competitive personality.

I prefer co-op to death matches; PvE to PvP. I don't find going out of my way to train my twitch skills to gain a millimeter of an edge over the next guy to be very fun at all either.

Likewise, I dont find it fun to mop the floor with people who are way below me either. In MMOs if I run across a little nublette of the opposing faction 40 levels smaller than me going about his business trying to level up, I'm more likely to help him out than attack him just because I could stomp him (I've actually done this in the past too).

So since I'm not super-competitive myself, I'm not particularly attracted to super-competitive types either.

Honestly, I found it EXTREMELY distasteful that more than once people have mentioned her being insufficiently pretty.

I mean... seriously.  What the fuck?  In large part, this is a matter of taste, and I think it's incredibly unclassy to go up to somebody and tell them 'By the way, that girl you like?  Sort of not really pretty.  Sorry.  Actually, here's a picture of a prettier girl!'

I mean, other than the whole telling people they have bad taste, is that REALLY the image we want to send?  That in order to be a 'girl gamer', you need to be PRETTIER?  ... and also better at games?  (Witness the first picture of a 'prettier better gamer', earlier in this thread)

Some people find her pretty, some don't.  I don't understand why people need to make fun of her for not being pretty enough though.  (Or, alternatively, casting doubts upon people's taste for thinking she's pretty).

Ugh.  As if there aren't too many too pretty people who are famous for being too pretty already.  More average people, thank you.

The thing is though, many of the types of celebrities we're talking about in this thread are put out there based on looks. That's what bugs me about this type of reaction to someone saying "well she's not even that pretty". The entire nature of this type of career (not exactly only referring to felicia here) is based on looks and dumb stereotypes. When the media and these actor's/actresses expose themselves in such a way, the statement is completely fair and valid IMO. I actually think she's cute (Felicia) but that doesn't stop me from thinking she's a part of an ugly thing.

Danny said it pretty well this type of exposure has no place in the gaming world, this isn't the WWE.

You do not "know" you "think"... it is an opinion. One you have every right to have, but must support if you decide to promote them on a forum.
