Distant Worlds

Anyone played this 4X space game? I've been watching some You Tube series on it and it looks like a pumped up version of Galactic Civilisations 2, a game I very much enjoyed but felt there too few moons per system. DW fixes that by having countless worlds to explore and colonise. Most reviews seem generally favourable, so it's got that going for it.

I'm just in two minds to go ahead and get it due to one big factor. The game is two years old and still £27. For those who don't speak in pounds, that is the cost of a big budget PC game on Steam. Kingdoms of Amalur was £30 at relase and has already dropped to £20. £27 is a lot of money for a two year old title.

Or should I just go ahead if the game interests me? Someone who's played it please set me straight.

All hail the Pixel, for it is glorious Orange!

There is a box version released very shortly. I think you can pick it up from thehut.com for £15 with free delivery (£25 from play.com), but I cannot tell from the blurb whether or not the expansion is included. If you can get past the clunky graphics it is a very fun game.

Ah cool, thanks Ruinal. I'll check that out. It does look a very good game, very deep and layered. I'm still balking at the price of the thing though. £15 would be much better.

Grahics don't bother me so much really. I've been playing Avernum on Steam lately and that has graphics akin to Baldur's Gate. Yay for gameplay.

DW is by far the best x4 space strategy game, been playing it since release and I do suggest that you buy the 2 x-packs aswell.

If it's not broken, you are not innovating.
