Need more gaming background from you.
TSW - AoC - Aion - WOW - EVE - Fallen Earth - Co - Rift - || XNA C# Java Development
Aion because you won't be wasting any money on it.
SWTOR you'll just waste alot of money and get nothing out of it, that game is really bad.
Go for Aion, nuff said.
Aion because it's free. SWTOR has some nice production values.
It just depends on your preference.
Are you interested in an Asian themed game that is heavily PvP based? Aion.
Are you interested in a cinematic single player experience? SWTOR.
That's opinion. There's a game for everyone and both these titles have merit.

I purchased AION after doing the Beta, I did not install the game as it appeared to be a fair whack of grinding.
I also play SWTOR and I enjoy it, Bear in mind its at its core a cookie cutter MMO, but its fun
If you Pm me an Email address i will send you a 7 day pass to try SWTOR and make your mind up

Obidom's offer seems fair. I had a lot of fun with my 7 days.
Though I would clearly say Aion after that week cause swtor isn't worth paying for.
PS: Out of fairness - Aion really is quite grindy. But what else would you expect from a game from the asian market?
If you're just killing time then just play Aion. It isn't a bad game and it's free. I'm assuming you are waiting for Tera or Diablo 3, in which case it really isn't worth the monthly sub for SWTOR. Just my opinion.
I personally I would say Aion. I have played both games. Current state of SW:TOR is not worth paying the monthy sub. Starting in SWTOR is fun, until you hit 50. But for Aion endgame is fun. With it just becoming F2P i'm sure the population is good.

Listen to folks like Mellkor...not the trolls
I am playing ToR and I love it. If you are a casual gamer that doesn't race to end game, then you will like ToR. I have been playing since early beta and I just now hit 50 with my first toon. I am now leveling an alt and I am enjoying it all over again. This game gets a lot of bad comments here, but as Mell said, it has merit...for me anyway.
So has watching paint dry if you're truly that bored... granted not allot of people have played the massive amounts of MMOs I have (including the throngs of WoW-clones running around) and just can't stomach another WoW-clone with too much talking...
Back on topic: I'd say Aion, grindtastic but it is free and it also gives you something to really chew on.
The Above above poster did not give a balanced pros and cons statement about the games. But basically highlighted his personal hatred for one particular game. Although he expressed opinions about the topic, I really question if they hold any truth reflective of the games states.
In regards to a straight forward answer, Having played both games extensively, It would be foolish to give an answer with out more knowledge of what the op likes, and expects from an mmorpg. I cant help him to the best of my ability without that information.
