English servers should be EU servers

kevjardskevjards Member UncommonPosts: 1,452

played EU beta last night and spent most of my time blocking what seemed to be a spanish guild all spamming area chat channel.i might say deliberately as well.they were asked to tone it down but continued.please dont get me wrong.nothing against the spanish .the problem lies in the fact there are no spanish servers so they have to play somewhere.would have been easier to call em EU servers instead of english.dont think they have licence for spanish servers .it ended up with me just turning off area chat along with most english speaking people who were getting really annoyed.i think to put it in a nutshell all servers on EU Tera should be EU language.saves peeps from getting pissed off.

You do realise that english is probably one of the less spoken languages in Europe right?

    Guess you dont..

Natively spoken perhaps, but I have the feeling that it is still the most understood language in the EU.

    Is there a Spanish server?

  • GoldenArrowGoldenArrow Member UncommonPosts: 1,186

I'm playing on the US servers. Nobody is talking any other language (as they are banning people for it).

It's rather nice to know what people are saying in the area chat o/

your missing the point..i,m all for accommodating the spanish on the servers,i dont have a problem,my point is to avoid confusion call them EU  servers then people dont get wound up when they log in and see every chat on an english server is anything but english.the spanish have to play somewhere and i,m all for them playing..you are misunderstanding my post.in fact i dont care what language people speak..its just to avoid any confusion at all.

Maybe you should be polite enough to type your message in Spannish for him so he can understand aswel? Oh wait.. you cannt.. right? Right.. yeah..

It's a good idea to close down the area chat anyway.

I leave it on because the world was empty (to many channels) so it gave me at least a little bit of connection.

But if it would annoy me, I would close it down with pleasure.

Unless a company provides a native server for a nation I do believe that there should be an enforced language for a game.  English seems to be the most common second taught language in Europe.

If it was any other language and I wanted to play that game and it was for example German I would learn German.  I went with Germany cause they have the wealthiest economy keeping Europe afloat therefore I believe they have most disposable income while most almost third world EU countries like spain and greece are suffering massive employment issues would not.

I jibe a little however my main point is this.  I have enjoyed my time talking to various people from different countries in my gaming career and on a daily basis I chat with people from Denmark and Belgium.  I do not like communities that huddle together speak their own language then are rude/abusive and exploitative towards those who aren't their "own".

I wish gaming companies would enforce/police a language of a server the community at large would benefit a great deal regardless of the whine and rascist accusations.  Any private chat can be done via comms.

No one below the age of 40 or even more speaks russian unless you count countries like Ukraine and Belarus where they defacto speak russian.

All the other coutnries of the former USSR stopped teaching russian in 88-91...

Also ecomonically no one really cares about russia :)

your kind of getting off topic here..all i would like is for them to change English speaking servers to EU speaking servers to accomodate all languages..that is'nt a harsh comment, all its for is to avoid confusion when people are creating chars..at least they will know when creating a char on specific server they know other european languages will be spoken on that server as well.not much to ask really.

The point about Russia is moot as they are IP blocked from playing Tera EU.

And I refuse to club the spanish, french and italian together as roughly speaking the same language as the only thing they have in common is latin which english also has in common.  Maybe they should launch latin servers?

The OP has a point though I think maybe forcing all non-english speaking people onto a designated server would be a good idea.

If its a english server you should write in english in general chat. If its a german server you should write in german. It makes no difference if you are a native english/german speaker as long as you can use the language.

I think its OK if you are only allowed to use the servers official language in general chat. If you cant do that dont use general chat. If you use guild chat or if you are in a group with friends it makes no difference.
