The latest producer's letter has arrived on the Final Fantasy Online XIV site. The letter outlines a pair of plans of interest to current and former FFXIV players. The Legacy Plan rewards players who subscribe for 90 consecutive days prior to the launch of v2.0. The Welcome Back Campaign will entice former players to try out v2.0 for no charge for ten days.
Those who qualify for the campaign and become Legacy members will:
Be able to play FFXIV from version 2.0 at the discounted Legacy price, forever.
Receive an exclusive chocobo mount upon the launch of version 2.0.
Earn a place in the credits for version 2.0.

This...may actually get me to subscribe again for 3 months.
Good on ya SE. Now if you can just fix your crappy customer service department.
Not to mention the servers itself lol.
It's a nice promotion tho, but it is more of a damage control action, due to all the issues with servers after the merge.
Far to late, far to little no saving this mess. its rotten to its core both in company and in development terms.
I guess you wont have to say anything else then.
If they reset all characters then I would return, but as they wont, those that stayed the past couple of years will have a stranglehold on the economy making difficult for new players to get into the game.
Pay 30€ now to save 1€ every month - profit?
The 10 day test phase for 1.22 is nice though. I will try it out.
How is this different from any other MMO? If you join ANY MMO 2 years after its release, the players there before you will have already established an economy.
Starting from scratch is seldom easy, regardless of the game you play. There's absolutely no reason they should reset everyone else just because you'd be starting anew.
FFXIV has been out 2 years?!!
damn
I will check it out again, I got bored of the Level system (so boring and grindy) and the lack of any storyline, I did not switch back to paying subs when they started charging us last year again.
Will certainly try the 10 days and the £8.99 pricing is a lot friendler that the £14.99 a lot of firms have been touting. Now to get time to play between SWTOR and getting married.... gaaaahhh

i would take another look on this game once again if this thing will happen... if i come back now, it would be too late to start again... i still have my LE disc collecting dusts...
Well, about a year and a half.
The game is so boring..I played till level 30 and i could not take it anymore..There no fun in this game, it is nothing but a chore todo anything..I cancel out lasts month maybe i will go back when they put the Fun back in the game like there other FF games..
I retired retroactively..Haha
I still have hope for this game even though it was a big disappointment to me at launch.
Although I've not been playing it I have been following the development progress with a keen interest simply because the game stands out as different in an already crowded mmo market where playing it safe for investors is the way to go.
I've got great respect for square because not many companies would admit there game sucked, making it f2p then set about rebuilding the full game not just doing "fixes".
So i hope these promotions will bring more players in for them and its nice to see the current players are shown they are valued by Square to boot.
I would strongly urge everyone who has had an account to try the welcome back campaign if you still don't like it, you cant please everyone, it doesn't matter, but there have been alot of changes, even radical class adjustments, but remember what we have now is just to keep the current players occupied until 2.0 so if you choose to try it now its by no means an indication of what 2.0 will be like.
I have been playing since alpha through the hard times and the game is really shaping up, also if you don't like the copy and paste zones they are still here, but will be changed for 2.0, thats what the current story is leading up to, the lesser moon Dalamud is getting larger in the sky, and currently giving of a menacing red hue, what could this mean for the people of Eorzea, and what will ultimately happen, theres only one way to find out.
And this will be the only time to see this content, once the 7th Umbral era is over it will never come again, if you are gonna want to know what has happened when you come back after 2.0 you will not beable to, the Welcome back campaign will allow you to see some of it, and should you choose to sub after you will be able to see it through.
They are saving the PR for new people till 2.0 which will include a 1 month free trial, also the PC version still has a 1 month free trial for new members, so they don't have to do anything else.
This is just a thank you for the people that stuck with the game over the past year and a half.
why dont they just make the game f2p
f2p games tend to cost alot more than p2p games, if its not a model like DCUO or STO you get a basic package of the first few maps, then you have to buy more as you progress, then theres the dungeons for the best gear and if you haven't bought them you are gimp etc etc.
The only 3 games I have seen that are F2P and give full access to the game are DCUO, Champions online and STO, but there are heavy limitations in both like bank slots inventory slots and theres the good old fasioned lockboxes in both games, get lockboxes ingame and have to buy the keys which cost (in STO) 900 C-points for 10 thats 9 euros, and it can take 30, 40, 50 or more to get the best things, so that could be around 50 euros in one month compared to the low prices of FFXIV.
When is 2.0 scheduled for release? Is there stll 90+ days before it comes around?
It would kind of suck to subscribe to the steaming pile that the game is currently for 2½ months only to be hit with "Oh look! 2.0 is live! Thanks for your money, but no discounted sub for you!"
... and so it begins.
The next step, if I remember the pattern correctly, is "It's not fair that other people who've played longer than me are farther along than I am. Why should I be punished for not playing as long as others have? Why should I be forced to have to try to catch up to everyone who played longer, just because they started up to 2 years before me? They need to speed everything up and make it easier for me to get to end game so I can play at the higher level with everyone else".
I've started late to MMOs as well, and have never been crushed under the weight of all those who started before me. I've never been held back by some mythical "stranglehold on the economy". I simply played the game, learned the same thing all those people playing longer did, and used that information, the same way as they did. And I did fine.
FFXI launched in the Western market 1 year after its launch in Japan, so every single US player was behind the ball and, by your logic, would be "too far behind" or dealing with "an economic stranglehold" imposed by those who'd played longer. Yet it didnt' happen. All that happened was all those new players on the servers actually shook up the economy, bringing more items into it and bringing more competition in terms of prices. We Western players did just fine, so long as we used our heads and didn't just expect everything to be handed to us "because we started later than everyone else".
Further still, I lost my original character about 2 years into FFXI's life-cycle. It was deleted and unrecoverable. I had to start from scratch, with nothing. I received no help financially from anyone I knew, nor did I want it. I simply played the game as I always had, used common sense, learned the market, learned what items sold the most reliably and quickly, and did fine.
I'm going back to FFXIV this week, after about a year away, and being quite well behind most everyone else I knew when I started out at launch. There's tons that has been added and accomplished in my time away. I won't be power-leveling (I despise being PL'd in any way). I won't be exploiting or abusing the system in any way. I'll be playing the game at my own pace. I guarantee you, I'll be doing just fine, money-wise and gameplay wise.
For one, I won't be comparing everything I do or have against everyone who has played longer, accomplished more and made more money. I won't be complaining about how unfair it is. That's just irrational and ridiculously self-defeating behavior.
That others have been playing longer than you, or anyone else, isn't a reason to not do well in a MMO. It's an excuse not to even try. It's basically throwing up the white flag without even making an honest attempt and saying, "I can't do it, and I don't even want tot ry. I need the devs to make it easier instead."
How do you know that? You haven't come back, yet, have you? You haven't actually tried, yet, have you?
You have no idea how well you'd do if you went back to game, dug in and did what you could to learn what items sell reliably and what other methods there are to make money in the game. It's not magic or some esoteric knowledge that only those who started at launch have figured out.
So basically you're doing exactly what I described in my last reply. You're throwing up the white flag, saying "I can't do it", and not even giving it an honest shot.
It's really sad to see people so willing to convince themselves they can't do something, and so quick to give up on it. I don't say that to be sarcastic or condescending. It really bugs me when I see people who find it easier to say "I can't" than "I'll give it an honest try".
Why don't you take that free time they're giving in the near future, re-up your account, get in game and really do your best to start figuring this stuff out? All the same things everyone else in the game has had to to get where they are. The players didn't all start off capped at 50 with millions of gil, you know. They started with the same starter gear and empty wallet as anyone else has.
One very important thing some people need to do, is stop comparing and valuing everything you have or do against those who started a year or more before you did. I can't emphasize how negative and self-defeating that kind of attitude is. There are examples of it right in this thread, your statements, MoeMoe and biggarfoot's being prime examples.
When they were at the point you are now, all those players didn't have all that stuff and hadn't accomplished all those things either. They were likely right where you are, or close to it. They had to put in the time and effort to get where they are, just like you do.
So is this only for people who bought the game and have an account? I don't have one but wanted to try the game, can I use this?
Noob-again question: I played from launch till just before free play ended. Last night I reactivated my account. Do I just need to pay/play for 3 months to obtain Legacy? Or do I need to sign/click something in my account that I missed?
