It seems that european players will have a blood free game, this is what Raven (Leader community manager) wrote on official forum to answer some concerns regarding the lack of blood in game:

Hello everyone,

With the new client build, some changes related to the level of detail for blood in TERA have been applied. The slider to adjust this value was removed with the new client build. This step was sadly necessary due to some changes which were introduced in the latest content update for TERA, which increased the amount of blood on certain details. Thus, we faced an issue with our current age rating which is 12+ for Europe.

Therefore, it was necessary to remove the level of detail slider for the blood aspect in TERA and set this to a fixed value. You’ll still see blood in TERA, but the amount of blood will be reduced and won’t stay on the ground. Also some minor effects like blood splatters against the screen will be replaced by another effect. Please be aware that we were already producing the box and pre-selling copies of the game with the active rating of 12+, so this was the only possible solution at this point.

We’re sorry to inform you about this now and not when the OBT patch notes were released, but the situation occurred with the latest additions to TERA and this are the reason why we needed to remove the slider for the blood factor and set it to a fixed value.

*Please note this change might not be active for some players who just used the EN client at this point, but it will be active before the release for everyone.

There are a lot of ppl on the officail forum cancelling the preorder, since they waited till the last moment to tell the players they were going to remove blood.

err does a little bloody really make a difference ?

As they stated they needed to do what they did to keep their 12+ rating.. this game was never really designed to be an adult orientated game like AOC or anything..

Well I'm not going to cancel a preorder cause the lack of blood, but the problem about it for most people is the cheap trick of not telling it untill the last istant.

Sweet jebus, people will cancel an order over anything. I get why it sucks and I get whay it has to be done. i just don't understand what makes gore so much more appealing than the gameplay. It's like folks want the videodrome signal beamed straight into their cortex.

    There is NO miracle patch.

95% of what you see in beta won't change by launch.

    Hope is not a stategy.

Actually... yes. Because they are going to preorder it from EME isntead of Frogster. A lot of players were already on the fence between eme and frogster.

They're still keeping the half nekkid chicks though, right?

I think the only thing that might be suspect about all this is if the announcement was put off for a period of time so that it wouldn't adversely influence box sales.  Other than that, you've got to comply with the law of the land, even if it is a bit silly.

Things change?  It is beta yes?  I would not be upset at the company personally. I would be directing any anger I had the rating systems used by your governments :)

its hardly Frogsters fault..if there is age restriction etc on game with blood in it so be it..no complaints here.

Yeah... I kind of have a hard time anyones canceling over this. Of all the reasons to cancel a pre-order this has to be one of the dumbest. Note, I'm not even a fan of TERA lol.

its not a trick.. during the beta process the body behind the rating system is probally constantly monitoring the game and giving advise when they can..

They probally only recently came back and went arrgh but there is blood you must remove this otherwise you cant have your 12+ rating... Frogster probally fought this as much as they could but in the end had to give in.

I remember when AOC was released i think it almost got banned in germany because you could cut someones head off and blood splatter all over your screen... in the end Funcom had to make a censored version for germany but they bought it until just before release... (Not 100% sure if ti was germany now but one of the EU countries)

Well, it's not about that. But when a company starts removing things that were supposed to be in game and tell you in the last minute, it's a clear red flag to back away. If it was done now before the game launched at the last moment it can be done later and perhaps with bigger things, just like it happened with SWTOR with their patch. That's why companies have to be careful with what they promise and are able to deliver, or it'll damage their fan base/subscriptions, etc.

Remember... all I'm offering is the truth. Nothing more.

Just to be clear, I'm not threatening to cancel my pre-order.

I think it's ridicolous to remove blood and I think it is really a cheap trick to wait untill now to tell us this, but I can certainly live without some digital blood :)

Seriously, if people were playing Tera only so they could see blood spatters on the screen they were playing for the wrong reason.

I understand why people are upset, but they do have to remain consistent with the ratings and there's little choice, not a Frogster issue.  We probably have the same issue here in the states.

It is also possible that Frogster or whatever publisher/developer was trying to fight this change up until the last minute and unfortunately whatever government agency does the rating would not budge.  Again I would not be upset at the company, would be more upset with the rating systems themselves.  I would not compare this SWTOR's most recent patch, as the ranked WZ's were one of the main features, and having some extra blood in your game is hardly a main feature.

It's odd though that you can have half naked fantasy characters running around but a little blood is way toooo much!

Unlight is right. It's silly but not Frogster's fault, other than not noticing sooner, and this is the worst time they could bring it up. Being "too late" would be after launch or right before where preorder cancels would be a nightmare.

It's silly though. Leave it default off with an option to turn it off and call it good. The finger should be at the rating system really.

Just not worth my time anymore.

Yeah it is possible and most likely what happened, but yea blood is a big deal in ratings and maybe should have not been overseen that this would probably haave happened.

Agree with your last sentence, I guess no blood is better than no half-naked characters lol.

Europe is more open to nudity/sex and less to violence and gore.  The US is sort of the opposite to a lesser degree.

Everyone knows Europe is much more comfortable with sex than they are with violence. North America is just the opposite.

Wow, almost exactly what I said. Didn't realize someone else had said it first.

Goes to show how well-know this is I guess.

I haven't heard from any guildmember, friends or friendly guilds that someone cancelled for this reason. Some are disappointed, but that's all.

Again, I'm just reporting the new, I'm not going to cancel my preorder cause of blood I can't care less about blood, but if you read that post you'll see a very large number of customers posting they have cancelled their preorder and ordered it from EME instead.

As usual the people posting on forums are a vocal minority so this doesn't mean Frogster will see thousand of preorder cancellations.

  • ThemehosptalThemehosptal Member Posts: 48

No, plenty of people have canceled. I got my money back long ago from frogster when I realized how badly they're running TERA. It's been known for quite some time. A lot of people that are getting their money back now will go to the US servers which are run by far more reasonable people. Another plus is how the US forums don't have nazi mods that lock and delete posts constantly.Anyway, I don't see why any PvPer would choose TERA over GW2, so it'll be a carebear PvE game at the end of the day, so I doubt they care much about the blood splatter and hopefully the remaining pvpers will just get their money back while they can.

''I just bought TERA CE preorder on NA/EME servers. Good bye Frogster have fun and good luck with those rich 12years. Latency to NA is not that big. And besides latency everything else is in favor of EME:

    - better communication with support there, although recent fail with patching and censorship on forum got me worried

    - bigger population, servers probably survive longer

    - they have RP server, while you barely could make 1 PVP EN here

    - everybody speaks at least decent english, no german/spanish/hungarian spam over and over

    - you can communicate with other players instead of trying explain to priest that he should heal in instances, but he does not speak any language that rest of party can, so 2 hours wasted, then priest was suprised he/she got kick.

    - changes go live first there, ie. whatever crap EME does , EU will get it, then some more crap from frogster

    - 1 week deletion for characters, WTF I am 1 years old? or wait ...

    - every single information we extrapolate from EME, then there are some rumors on twitter''

    ''So far we have

    Elins are censored

Pets are gone(its sad that people don't even get how damaging that is for Vanarchs)

    Chest of mischief is gone

    Random elite mobs are gone

    Blood is gone

    to be continued'
