When I initially played the demo, I was really disappointed. There were a number of reasons for my disappoinment, such as outdated looking graphics, awkward control scheme, and poor animations. Recently, the game went on sale on Steam for $40 bucks so I decided to give it a go. I also purchased the game of the year edition of Fallout 3, but I'm only a few hours into that one.
So after playing KOA for 22 hours, I am doing an about face on this game. I was wrong, atleast for my tastes. The graphics are not realistic, but they are easily maxed out on my machine and the frame rate is never anything but butter smooth. After awhile, I started to appreciate all the pretty colors and ambiance. Their is a feeling of life in the world that having come from SWTOR I can greatly appreciate.
I like the stories. A lot of reviewers say they are derivative, but that can be said of anything these days. The stories pulled me in and kept me going to see what would happen next. Some of the stories got me thinking about other things too, which I like. The fact that I was reflecting on story elements after I had logged off means I was engauged.
The controls and animations are fine. Combat is fun. I wish I could pull back a little bit from my avatar but I'm pretty much used it now and it's not an issue.
I like how there is tons of loot. The game is not stingy in this regard. I'm forever comparing stats and when I don't want something, either salvaging it or selling it for cash. I have ample funds and crafting so far is holding my interest.
Anyway, if you're bored you might give it a shot. I was pleasantly surprised. It's not Skyrim which is an awesome game, but it's not trying to be. Probably won't get to Fallout 3 till I'm finished with KOA. That could be awhile though

I think the stories are an interesting twist of celtic/victorian with an bit of modern and buddhist/hindu idea thrown into it. Its far less derivative than many MMOs or most Tolkien based things.
I mean hell Warcraft was stolen directly from Warhammer they just slapped a slightly different name on it so they didn't get sued when they couldn't get a license. You can't get more derivative than that.
