Played it this weekend and Its just OK. Nothing ground breaking or special. Its like a suped up version of the original Sacred. I'm annoyed by the fact that the customization is handed to you. I like the larger skill trees and allocating skill points as I see fit. You are basically given two skills for your mouse then 1-4 skills. Its repetitive. The story seems good though. I just dont know. It doesnt feel like it warrants the price tag right now.
Edit: Would have been nice to be able to zoom in on your charachter. Dont think you can.
They should rename this website to disgruntledvets.com because it seems like 90% of people who post here hate every game that is released. Does anyone here like games anymore? Does every game have to blow your mind? Is $60 a fortune?
The MMORPG games have taken a route away from the ideas I wanted like real worlds to explore and drastic consequences for screwing up. I love to group with people that are willing to take the risk of loss of their character because they usually work as a team to take on difficult tasks. It doesn’t matter what the game is or isn’t as long as it has a challenge to it. MMORPG’s Just don’t have a challenge for me and never will.
I am buying into D3. The last 2 days have been nothing but fun and challenge AND I met people that play like I play.
Over 30% Have said they will buy Diablo 3. I suspect even more are still playing the OBT, and won't bother to come here and respond. 11 million users still play Diablo II and StarCraft over Battle.net. Yeah the 500+ who responded to this poll will tell us something (sarcasm).
Pardon any spelling errors
Konfess your cyns and some maybe forgiven Boy: Why can't I talk to Him? Mom: We don't talk to Priests. As if it could exist, without being payed for. F2P means you get what you paid for. Pay nothing, get nothing. Even telemarketers wouldn't think that. It costs money to play. Therefore P2W.
Let me say I really didn't care for Diablo 3 before this weekend. I really don't like Blizzard/Activision, and I think they are greedy asses. I've been hearing my friend tell me on and on about how great D3 is, and how I should play it with him. I've ignored him on the issue and just been keeping my eyes focused on GW2.
Then came this weekend. No GW2 beta, I don't work this weekend, and no parties are going on. So I download Diablo 3 and message my friend Matt and told him my Battletag. He didn't really believe I'm actually playing, he was pretty happy when we were on skype when I told him that haha.
So I load up D3 (Matt wasn't on at the time) and start working on a Witchdoctor. Meh, not bad. Nothing great. I get off for the night at level 6. I wake up Saturday morning and after a game of League of Legends with Matt we load up D3. 30 minutes later after dealing with server issues, we get in. I create a Barbarian, he a Monk. Lets just say the next 3 hours was near the better gaming experiences I've had in a long ass time. I now have a level 13 Barbarian decked out in near the best blues (and 1 yellow) and I can possibly get. Now I'm hooked. I mean I've always liked Dungeon Crawlers, was a big time player of Fate, and I used to watch my cousin play D2 all the time. But this is just great.
I like the simplicity, I don't like making my character and having his build messed up because I didn't look online for the more viable setup. I don't miss the skill-tree, since most of that is useless when it's much better just to give me every skill and let me make my skillbar. I like the casual play of normal mode. It's fast paced, simple, and most importantly; fun. Hell yeah I'll be playing Infernal Mode with 3 other close friends. But it's nice that I can sit back and just relax to some mindless killing of monsters.
I came in with no expectations. Hell I'd even say I didn't like D3 at all. Came out with a great experience, and $60 less money in my bank account. You guys can sit here and piss and moan about it, but I'll be on D3 and Skype laughing my ass off and killing monsters with my friends. Have fun ;D
Whenever i step outside, somebody claims to see the light It seems to me that all of us have lost our patience. 'cause everyone thinks they're right, And nobody thinks that there just might Be more than one road to our final destination--
Wasn't in beta because I didn't care enough to get in. Every trailer or combat video I've seen has been underwhelming. Nothing makes me want to spend a dime on this. And I'm so glad I didn't after hearing the list of RPG features that were plucked out.
I would so be into this game if they made a ton of RPG elements, but as it stands I have never been into the click spam, It really turns me off. I didnt really know about it till I played the latest warhammer outing, warhammer 40k space marines. After playing that game for 5 minutes, I truly know I really really dislike constantly spamming the mouse clicks.
Yea having some cool Hellish RPG element to this game with a deep story would be really cool, even so the mouse spam would get on my nerves quick. Some voice overs/story choices that deeply effect your character progression would make things alot more spicey for me, even so I realize diablo fans know what they want and having a RPG story in there game would probably not be one of them.
So for me, even though I play just about 99% of the games made available on the PC, this game is one that I couldnt stomic given my sickening dislike for Clickfests.
Personally I am still going back and forth. Parts of the game I really enjoyed and I had a couple nice random public games. My problem is do I think in the long run it will be worth $60 when I already have Guild Wars 2 Prepurchased and haven't a doubt that I will be buying Torchlight 2 when it comes out for $20.
Other than the horrible time trying to get connected (beta I know) I didn't really have any complaints about the game and it ran smooth enough, but it really didn't blow me away. I have been playing PoE a bit and while it is a good game, I don't know how much I will play it either. But I keep coming back to $60 for a game when I feel that I can get a comparative game out of T2 relatiely soon for 1/3rd of the price.
End the end I will most likely go ahead and keep preorder but I can't really say that the beta won me over. Most likely it will be yet another game that I throw $60 at just for the heck of saying that I have played it. Value wise I think it is not going to be anywhere near worth the price.
-------------------------------- Currently Playing: Guild Wars 2 and Path of Exile
I liked what I saw of the desert zone when I was at BlizzCon, and although I feel some trepidation, I am mostly excited about the looming release date. I pre-ordered a while back, and really don't intend to cancel it.
I think if I was basing my decision only on the limited play I saw in the beta, I might be more concerned with the condition of the rest of the game, BUT... since I saw the previous demon boss encounter at BlizzCon a few years back, and the desert zone with its sandstorms and demons, I'm really excited about playing it and unlocking the full version of those areas.
Definitely not buying. While playing the beta, I was stunned by how mediocre and simple the game was. I would give a thumbs up of for the visuals though.
How long will I enjoy playing it for? (duration in hours)
How much does it cost? (cost in dollars)
If
(duration * fun) / cost >= .25
Then
Yes I will buy and play it.
Why .25? Well, a fun movie for two people costs roughly $16 at matinee price and lasts for 2 hours. So I get:
(2*2)/16 = .25
So, do I find D3 fun? Yes. 2
How many hours will I play it? I will probably clear the game once at minimum (worst case scenario) First third of act 1 took about an hour, if each act takes 3 hours and there are 4 acts I have 12 hours of gameplay.
Cost? $60
(2*12)/60 = .4
Therefore it's more fun and better value than going to a good movie. And that's at worst case scenario. If I take multiple characters through the game on normal it grows quite a bit. And if I go through multiple difficulties it just gets giant.
Let's say I play it on and off for 6 months putting in 8 hours a week. That's 192 hours.
(192*2)/60 = 6.4 Definitely worth it. And who am I kidding? I'll play it more than 8 hours a week and for much longer than 6 months. Probably looking at 2-3 years with an average of 15 hours a week. That $60 has gone a long way in entertainment value.
I played the beta over the weekend and enjoyed it. I pre-purchased it so I definitely bought it. I will be playing it when it comes out - at least until GW2 comes out.

I preordered the CE after playing the beta months ago, i dislike some of the changes along the way and liked some others. Overall it'll keep me busy without having to devote a part of my life to put in a session.
Same as me.... can't wait game really is fantastic.
Also I love Perma Death so the game is right up my alley.

I am getting it with the annual pass from WoW but after the beta I think I would buy it anyway. I had a great time in beta, lots of fun. Aside from some graphical glitches I really enjoyed it.
That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!
Probably won't buy it but I might. The beta wasn't all that good and I felt it was way to easy even for normal mode. Hardcore mode did nothing for the difficulty of the game since non of the classes came even close to ever dieing.
Also, the skill system either needs to be more diverse or they just need to take out spending your skill point since you can only spend it on one skill anyway it should just auto give you the skill.
I did have fun playing it but I think it is lacking as far as a Diablo game goes. It is a good game if you look at it as not being Diablo 3.

I agree with you on the part of skills and difficult battles, since the beta is just 1/3 of act1 on normal, but afaik max level on D3 is lvl 60 or smt and it will get higher when they release expansions for it.

Beta shows the game is very underdeveloped, and not very fun.
Hack-and-slash-and-loot does have its place but other games do it better than D3, games like POE and LE.
D3 just isn't worth the money of a full price game in 2012, it should be F2P given how basic it is.
Personally I am still going back and forth. Parts of the game I really enjoyed and I had a couple nice random public games. Yes, my equation for purchasing a game is simple.
Is it fun? (fun) 1 is no and 2 is yes
How long will I enjoy playing it for? (duration in hours)
