D3, point and click, blizzard

So I have been playing D3 for the past 6-8 hours, and I must say I absolutley love it.

First of I hate poand clikc games, as it just irritates the hell out of me, but with Diablo 3, blizzard have made the controls feel so intuitive and smooth the control of your character and combat just feels superb.  The way the skills and movement  for me is absolutley amazing.

People complaning about the art work, must be bloody colour blind or totally blind, because the game looks absolutley stunning on my PC.  Yes it dosnt look like Diablo 2 because back then it was 6 bit graphics on8mb graphics cards, not allowing a full range of value and lighting, so you either had black, black and more black.

For me I just dont see how anyone can even complain  and worry about the game.  The isometric view dosnt feel like the old sones, but the way blizzard have implemented it along with the controls and combat just blends superbly.

Like I said I hate point and clikc, and am really used to wasd from playing mmos, but if there is one thing blizzard do really well is the between player and chracter controls, animations and combat.  Well done blizzard.

So what, you never play a point and click hack and slash before?

Most diablo and diablo2 fans will think the game is dumbed down for mainstream. No builds and no choice = D3.

The isometric view is something that should have been left to rest for RPG's.  It hads it time, but it can not keep up with the immersion of a 3D game.  IF there was one thing they should have replaced it is this.  Its a definite gamekiller for me.

people with good taste will play the game period.... it is a fun game, that is what it is about... I don't care who develops a game, just that it be fun or I am done...

Sorry have you even seen the streams of actual fans of diablo and listened to what they have said? The general concnsensus from long time streamers, leakers and beta players is the game is fantastic.

No, no and no! Diablo without isometric view is not Diablo. I want an action RPG not another boring MMO like RPG. Thank you!

Actual fans of diablo found the game to be fantastic? Really?

Its nothing like the original diablo, i finished the beta, its all linear tunnels, no choice no builds nothing, the game is like, here is the road, this is the only path you have.

Compared to path of exile and torchlight 2 what the hell makes diablo 3 so fantastic?

That's quite literally like making Call of Duty in the style of Crusader.  If you don't know what that is, it's an isometric shooter DOS game.  Changing the view to already well established franchises makes zero sense if you actually thought about it.  You also have no comparison to draw from when talking about immersion of 3D verses isometric.  Ultima Online did a wonderful job with immersion and remains my all time favorite MMO.  You can't make claims if you can't back them up with fact.

Let me see. Torchlight 1 was crap? It didn't even have a multiplayer which made it a one playthrough game and be done with it. Torchlight was a cartoony game. WE hate cartoony games remember? OOh, wait we only hate cartoons when Blizzard does them.

You are QQing about a game being linear? Torchlight was the very definition of linear tunnels.

Did I say Torchlight had 3 classes with limited character customisation + a lot less varied items?

Wow, what a lame double post..

  • DAS1337DAS1337 Member UncommonPosts: 2,610

My personal opinion of Diablo is this.  It's very well made.  It's quite obviously the same universe and there have been a lot of technilogical advancement made with this title.  However, it lacks in substance.  All of the things that the long-time Diablo fans have enjoyed have been stripped away.  Alternate builds are stripped away for balancing.  Some of the collecting has been completely removed to draw in more casual games, especailly from the console crowd.  The art style has been altered to be lighter and more cartoony to attract more gamers.  Blizzard has fallen in the put of cash grab and are in no hurry to get out.

You want a game that holds true to the core values that Diablo 1 and 2 became so popular for?  Try your hands at Path of Exile.  It is in beta and still has some work to be done.  Though, the game is super polished and there are millions of possibilities when it comes to build paths.  It's almost like a sandbox style progression system.  If you didn't know the name of the game you were playing, I'm bettting that most gamers would enjoy PoE over D3.  It's all name recognition.

    Forget Torchlight.

torchlight was no more or less linear than diablo 1 & 2.  It had randomly generated levels.  It had maps you could buy to teleport to other dungeons, which again were random.  Linear would be something like titan quest.

You're right about the no coop though (but TL2 does have coop), and your right about the graphics, although I think like wow and some other games TL has "good art" to go with thoose more cartoonish graphics.

Your completly wrong about the classes.  Although it has 3 classes, they all play very differently dependinh on which path you mostly concentrate on.

e.g. the vanquisher can be a rdps class, a spike mdps / debuffer class or an aoe preplanning with traps class

the alchemist can be a a caster a walking army of pets or a light tank/mdps

the destroyer can be mdps / a gather them all up and tank them down or a pet / melee / range hybrid.

so really its like 9 classes

bear in mind TL2 will be 1/3rd of the price of D3, wont require a constant internet connection, wont have a stupid RMT feature and will have lots of user mods.
