As of now I have no plans of playing GW2. No world PVP is a game breaker for me.
That is one of reasons that I won't be playing TERA and will be playing GW2. I hope you enjoy your gaming as much as I will enjoy mine. Now if only I could convince all the people complaining about no OWPvP in GW2 to go play TERA.
Only thing wrong with TERA is early questing because you have to follow the quest till you get about level 20+ then the world starts to open up and you can do more things like dungeons, instances, world bosses and bams. Everthing else in TERA is much better then any other game on the market. There has never been a better pvp game released since Lineage 2.
I went to Gamestop this morning and fully paid off my preorder for TERA. I will be playing Beserker on Valley Of Titans PVP Server and enjoying every minute of it.
As for opinions, age doesn't matter at all. You can be 8 years old and form an opinon, and still stick with that opinion for your whole life. Maybe you're just someone who's gone through a bunch of emotional phases throughout your life bringing you to that logic, while others like myself tend to form a valid opinion based on fact and statistics and stick with it, simply because it makes the most sense.
That's not true.At all. First of all, demographics do matter. You wouldn't spend millions of dollars to advertise the national geographic channel on mtv because chances are people who watch mtv won't give a damn. And without wasting to much time on this, opinions change depending on age. You talk about using facts and statistics...well this is something that has been observed stastically for a while. It has nothing to do with emotional problems, but to think a 8 year old can make a logical, fact based opinion free from bias that last him forever is ridiculous. Adults can't even do that, because the human mind doesn't work like that.
He included his age because he was trying to write a thorough opinion of the game. Get over it.

I really wouldn't bother trying to talk sense to some people. Some might use a phrase "Haters just got to hate" but I really prefer "unhappy people are just unhappy people" I like to take a look at a persons post history and see if they've ever said anything positive. Even once.
TBH this game plainly sucks, its nothing mroe than Aion with locked mouse poitner combat and the same asianc huge cats and fluffy monters with no story or interestign feature at all.
Gaming world will lose nothing at all when this get sued and closed.
I award it the MOST UNINSPIRING MMO of the yeear.
Yawnfest game.
Yeah OP, thank you for your honest review of Tera, and I want to warn you to be weary of posts from people who are incapable of thought but somehow manage the energy to spew their uninformated opinions in these forums.
Also, keep in mind that it's not really even fully functional yet. We're getting hints and peeks at what's going on in TERA.. the territory control system, I haven't seen anyone really get into that yet. So there's a lot more left out to TERA, that we're just not going to get to expereince till after launch.
Thanks for your take Ray! I'm 32 married with three kids >8. Does that matter? Yeah it does I love my life lol. I also love, though to a minuscule degree, the fact that when I log into TERA I have a healthy amount if gameplay options. The last few new games I've tried couldn't compare.
I don't get how Tera can entertain someone longer than a couple hours. It feels like a bland console action game with nice graphics tacked onto a WoW template.
1. The world has invisible walls on cliffs and ledges. Ruins sense of freedom.
2. Mobs that giggle, "baby talk", and bounce up and down. Makes me feel old.
3. Same old quest style. Gold exclamation point over head, click, Wall of Text, accept, bring back 10 turds, get some XP.
4. Mobs spread out in predefined spots for you to go and kill a certain number of for quests. Nothing new here.
5. While the aciton combat was fun for a while, it couldn't make up for the played out quest style same old pre-positioned mobs sitting out in the field.
6. In order to level for PvP you must do PvE quests.
One of the things SWTOR got right was the questing system. Your character wasn't just going out hunting X number of piglets and deer. You were meeting specific people, making deals, making choices that actually gave the quest some meaning. Your character had a personality. Tera just feels... like MMO Deja Vu. Or MMO Groundhogs Day.
I agree with almost all u wrote, Ray, im just not so excited like you.
Im not playing Betas (only CBT3), even i did pre-order few time ago, waiting for release day (28 for EU) to start playing in a slow way and see how this game goes in matter of PvP / territory control.
- PvP only for fun:
It is fun for a while to me, but if theres no community abjective i dont stay long. So, im still waiting to see how the political system will work on TERA. If the game become like AION, PvP is only about personal scores, im out because that isnt what im looking for in a MMO. If PvP will go in a path similar to L2, its all about Guild/Alliances Objectives then i might find my new home.
- Bad inicial design:
The way we play 1-20 is diferent from the rest of the game. IMO this was a huge mistake in game design. I think they allready saw that because of the last changes they made. Game change at lvl 20 and become more fun, why the hell game dont start at lvl 1 like it is on lvl 20? I will never understand this mistake.
Anyway, i will start playing a little after 28th and keep my group activitys on L2. Later i will decide if change complety to TERA.
Im feeling like a "jumper" in time.... L2 combat....then TERA combat.... then L2 combat....
You know what part of the problem is? It's not anyone's fault really as it follows our nature to adapt to our surroundings. We have become the "rich elite" of MMO gamers. Think about it. We have titles that at one point were top notch now begging us to play for free and buy something from their stores.
Now with every game that comes out we can criticize every square inch of it because we have about 20 major titles to compare it to and hundreds of minor ones.
For your own benefit, if you are a fan if MMOs please realize how spoiled we all are and try to appreciate what each title brings. Or don't but don't be surprised if five years from now your still complaining that this game's VR reactions are not as fluid as this one.
I have to agree with everything the OP said, I'm loving this game to, So is my gf.
We have both our gaming desktops sitting sideby side, and when we play tera together we just don't stop. We aren't very big MMO fans, but we ARE action rpg fans. (example: Our favorite game in the world to play together is Monster Hunter).
So if you're a fan of MH or action rpgs in general. Then I reccomend giving it ago, It's the best MMO experience I've ever had so far.
I'll be picking up 2 copies of Tera, Diablo 3, and GW2. All of them have great variety between titles and offer JUST what we like in our rpgs. Game on forum buddies =] (Oh and stop fighting over these 3 will ya?) lol

Probably because they mistakenly thought we would be patient enough to play the game for the first 20 levels, really isn't very hard, I've been playing pretty casually since Thursday and am now level 20.
The world actually has opened up quite a bit and looking forward to my first instances.
No one has any patience these days, everything has to be one big text message or something.

Well as i already wrote somewhere else, in my opinion if someone doesn't like it in the first 10 levels is not going to change his mind at 20.
I mean at 20 the game really get better but it's alyways the same game. I liked the game at 10 and i loved it from 20.
Of course the first time I soloed a basilisk I was exalthed, then at 22/24 you have centaurs / kumas / armored centaurs then fribalisk and so on, everytime a new challenge.
It's all very fun but still i doubt that all this will make ppl change opinion if they hated the first 10 levels.
As a side note for those who have complaints about how easy BAM are, the real challenge is soloing them when you are at the same level of the BAM, killing them when you are higher level even 1 level doesn't count.

Some people still are =P lucky not everyone here has attention span of a 3 year old yet anyways. Also the game is designed in Korea by Koreans where the major game population likes grinding and don''t mind spending montsh before getting to good part of the game. Asian have the comcept of work hard for something good later on, which mean many koreans don't mind the grind (most enjoy it) and when they reach high lvl and have those gear and play the higher lvl content there is a statifcation in working to get somewhere not everyone can get to. In NA its more like fun now or else. Which works but really put to question how well it does long term.

Patience is one thing, but the entire 1-20 experience could've been covered in a tutorial section, and had us start at 20. The tutorial island, for example, teaches us fairly little, and it isn't until we actually get those skills (around lvl 18+) that we are finally able to start learning our character. So yes, it's a bad design decision.
For example, if you bought a FPS game. You wouldn't want the first 20 minutes of the game to be 'shoot 10,000 target dummies to prove it's safe for us to give you a weapon'. You'd say, F this game I'm going to go play something that starts right away. It's entertainment, not a job. The fun / excitement is supposed to start immediately, we shouldn't have to 'work for it' when we are already shelling out 75$ minimum (box price + sub).

What you get is you get charged 60-80 bucks for about 2 days worth of campain play before your forced to play online.
It's not Tera players arguing over GW2. Since both GW2 and Diablo 3 don't have subs there's no reason why people can't play and enjoy all three games.
The problem is a bunch of fanboys that have no interest in playing Tera coming into the Tera forums and just bashing everybody that does play it. And then we have mods actually punishing Tera players that are trying to defend their own game.

For me this is true. I'm level 14 and I've just spent the last 30 minutes or so killing different groups of sabertooths for 3 different quest givers. I just can't do it any more. I spent years doing the same kind of questing in WoW and I'm done. The game is beautiful, but it doesn't bring enough to the table to make it engaging enough for me to continue, let alone pay monthly for it.

Tera is not a bad game , but certainly has problems and one of them is the quest system, 30 seconds after i get the quest I cannot remember what it was LOL. After playing the excellent quest vo system with swtor it is painfull to sit through silly text. That being said the combat system is good , the world is much more open than swtor and graphics are good as long as you have a good computer.
I did find the new beginning Tutorial system to be very odd, it would have been much better if it was a personal story instead of 8 zillion people doing the same quests at the same time, there were times you could not even move! I hate it when they drop you into a tutorial at Level 20 with skills I am not familiar with, this reminded me of when Fallen Earth did the same thing (they changed it fortunately) and then BOOM you are back at level 1- to me tht was a big fail-
I do think the game has promise if you can get over its poor quest system, this is going to have to be a game where PvP really excells in order for it to succeed

I do think the game has promise if you can get over its poor quest system, this is going to have to be a game where PvP really excells in order for it to succeed
