Update 1.2: Legacy has turned out to be a massive update for Star Wars: The Old Republic and frankly there are too many awesome things in the update to list them all. Instead, we’re picking five of our favorite additions and changes from ‘Legacy’ to highlight as part of The List this week.
It was amusing hearing people complain of the lengthy travel times in Star Wars: The Old Republic when the game launched. Heck, even I complained about it. Then, I began to think all the way back to games like Star Wars Galaxies where I regularly ran across the world for missions and other adventures before mounts and vehicles became commonplace. And there I was, complaining about the travel times in TOR. #ModernMMOProblems, anyone? Legitimate or not, the fact of the matter is we’ve been trained to want instant gratification due in part to the way MMOs of the last couple of years have been designed and so this fairly tiny addition to Star Wars: The Old Republic makes it into my top five.

I don't like Novar Coast but other than that I like the update. I could care less about people who say "it should have been at the start of the game". It might be true but its the whole, could have , should have thing. It wasnt, now it is so its done, move on.
On a subject too about what I read, you were correct in your story about running clear across the world (in SWG).. and other MMO's of past just to get a quest or do a quest. Sure its a pain in the butt , but it made it that more rewarding when I got it all done. Now a days, people want it now. Just like Varuka Salt (sp?).. In Willy Wonka, dont care how.. I want it NOW. That is our MMO gamers mindselts now and this is a good reason I bet, all the single player games they play on their XBOX or PS3 or what have you. Instant gratification is for the people who make the MMO of Old a thing of the past, almost never to be revisited again. Sadly its a race to the finish , something I never had any desire to be a part of. However I am a small percentage of those whom enjoy the taking forever to get somewhere or something in the games. It makes what I paid for the game worth it. Like now a days, I dont buy games (unless its an MMO like TOR) because, 60 bucks for 8 hours of a game is not worth it. Rent them, beat them, get another is our life style now, sadly.
Back to this post, again I like the changes, I like the dynamic event they had with the plague and I certainly look forward to seeing more. Lets just hope they continue to grow.
/queue crickets!
I can list one thing that is bad with this update...
Horrible currency grind to purchase you what you unlock in the Legacy system.
It is just another grind system to keep endgamers happy. Give me more story instead please.
Joined 2004 - I can't believe I've been a MMORPG.com member for 20 years! Get off my lawn!
I love how they borked the patch and were down for hours. These people created a bad MMO and keep showing it every time they do anything with it. I want my $60 back.
Just wanted to comment on your Sprint point - Maybe if the worlds were interactive, immersive and worth strolling through, then people wouldn't have minded having Sprint at a later level. Sprint at level 1 helps one get past the initial zones faster, especially on alts when the questing becomes tedious since you've seen it all before already.
Played a lot of MMOS and no amount of interaction and immersion in world would keep you interested after rolling a 3rd or 4th alt. So yes for people who are altholics sprint at lvl 1 is a great feature.
Hmm..
Sprint at level 1 instead of 14 and the crafting changes don't seem like top 5 material.
agree 100%, by your 4th alt., and that's being kind, you want to move as fast as possible through the same old, same old.
Sorry but I had to say it, sprint lv 1 is nothing but cheap resell of something that was ingame already.
Nothing new just commodity, it's not even an update, it's like mount at lv 5 in warcraft.
Convenient but nothing more, it's not right to highlight it like some amazing feature... you get money from bioware ? i think you should if you don't.
Diablow 3, it sucks ...
Too little too late is my mantra for SWTOR.
It really makes me sad because I REALLY wanted to like Star Wars, but the pace and limited content of their updates and patches are very thin indeed.
Maybe I got spoiled with Rift.
Cool! Now when you /bind Sprint to Spacebar you can basically warp through the game

I want a Virtual World, not just a Game.
ITS TOO HARD! - Matt Firor (ZeniMax)
yeah, from what I remember is a togle skill and it only work outside of combat.
though it funny how they keep posting about how this game is marvelous and all, but are losing subs more 3 months till it become a F2P
The themepark games are much less compelling in terms of exploration. I did a lot of exploration in SWG and took lots of pictures of scenic vistas. I explored a bit in SWTOR but then quickly became bored of it. I rarely snapped screenshots in SWTOR, even though the graphics are probably better.
It's not that I have changed and somehow no longer like exploring. I am exploring the hell out of Skyrim. Even Kingdom of Amalur is interesting to explore. I think the SWTOR version of a Star Wars universe is just not that compelling.
I'm not sure I will ever go back to SWTOR. They've been sending me some interesting offers in my mailbox, but I think the design of the game is just too simplistic.
SWTOR is specially now for sure one of best mmo's but people are getting bored with standard game play and new generation of players want something more , like i said before only virtual reality can change that. I was playing like crazy through winter swtor and eve but now i lost joy in every game. I cant see one game in near future that will give me same kick like i got one in first days of wow. But sure when winter comes back i return to swtor, eve and wow, well maybe Oblivion or MechWarrior online will make me happy
if now swtor is the best mmo, then I really pity the worse.....
Sprint at level 1: As someone already said, lifeless and unimmersive planetary enviroments are what make this power changed needed. Lipstick on a pig in my opinion as a boring planet (pfft, cattle run) is still boring no matter how fast you can run through it.
Crafting changes: Better than before but its still just easier to grind planet tokens for orange gear mods and leave crafting till level cap.
Novare Coast: Haven't played it so can't comment. However if iyou have to go through the games fuktarded BG queue to get to play it, I doubt it is worth all the unwanted games of Huttball you have to wade through to play it.
Legacy System: Near worthless for those players who have already leveled most of their alts, but great (said with bitter sracasm) for those who are having to re-roll one of the handful of heavy pop servers as their's is stone dead. Lose/lose This is the one feature that TRULY should have been in at launch.
Rakghoul epidemic: Boy meets disease, boy turns green and vomits, boy explodes and gets some DNA in his inventory. No real downside except for having to hear the damn plague alert blaring from my house mate's computers every few mintues when they are visiting the fleet. While not for me I'm sure there are players that like this feature so I won't take the piss out of it. But to keep my reputation as a cranky SWTOR hater strong, I do have to say that maybe their efforts would be better spent fixing what is broken rather than adding more trivial sh*t.
All in all to me 1.2 could have been something great, but it seems once again either poor management, lack of talent in key areas, or possibly even the Lucas Curse, neutered this patch from the promised rampaging Rancor of a fix, to a weak mewling ewok of dissapointment.
"Gypsies, tramps, and thieves, we were called by the Admin of the site . . . "
I had to leave swtor because they went to super easy mode , but if they changed back to add some challenge I would be back in a flash
"five of our favorite"
Im just glad it dosn't say top 5 features in 1.2 - Cause damn!
1.2 actually caused me to unsub, only still playing because I have paid time left, the game is still somewhat playable, but the thing not mentioned in this thread is the way they destroyed class balance with this patch, all the force user classes were buffed, except sins who weren't touced, and sorcs/sages who recieved a minor nerf but are still quite powerful. If you played any sort of BH/trooper, or a dps scoundrel/operative you took it in the shorts. The additional content was so-so and the changes to teh classes made this game "star wars; world of marauders".
Well in SW:TOR you're Jim Carey and Ed Harris turned off the sky's rotation setting.
