Why COMMUNITIES Fail MMO's - Long

tgoodspetgoodspe Member UncommonPosts: 48

Ok,

So quite frankly I am getting sick and tired of reading the millions of posts when every new MMO comes out where some cry baby desides to get bold enough to make a post about how "XYZ will FAIL! TROLOLOL". Then they procede to sit behind their computer screens and faceroll their keyboards until such nitpicky giberish shows up on the screen about how "The game is fun but man it doesn't have this, or it doesn't have that, and I still live with my mother."

Let me ask you people something, what are you expecting right from launch? I agree that to compete it today's markets a game has to be released more polished than it had to 5-10 years ago, but has everyone lost sight of what an MMO truly is?!

It's PROGRESS. No game has ever been released that has satisfied 100% of customers to where the developers could just kick back and do nothing for the rest of the game's life and reap the benefits. Even the most successful WoW had some of the most MUNDANE systems set in place when the game first launched. It's a shame the people that started playing WoW when BC or WotLK had already come out, because it's people like you that don't know what it's like to truly start a game from the ground up, to know what it's like to truly be with a game from launch day #1.

It's people like you that are KILLING mmorpg's today before they can even get started.

Because you see, it's the communities that keep games alive. It's the people that can take a game for what it is, enjoy it for the good features it does have, and stick it out for a little while as the developers do everything they can to improve upon the game how the people see fit.

But instead, people get into a game and unless they get 100% of what they want from day 1, they immediately jump to the forums and troll their a**es off about how "This game didn't live up to my expectations and it's going to fail!"

However, once people confront you guys about this, you NEVER know what to say. When we ask the simple question "Well, what do you want?" You can never answer with an actual solution, but instead you answer with some utopian response that sums up to be "Well... I wanted the game to be everything I've ever hoped for in an MMORPG experience."

And that's fine, you know what, as a gamer you should want a fun game.

But none of you know what it's like anymore to WAIT through thick and thin with a game, tough some of the rougher times out so that you'll reach that promised land of the perfect MMO. WoW got there, and I guarantee that EVERYONE you talk to who played Vanilla WoW will tell you the same thing, that it had some of the roughest (and best) launch points of an MMO.

So why am I saying all this jumbo that no one might read until the end? Because TERA has an incredible amount of good, innovative features that truly set it apart from an MMO, and it needs a solid community that's going to stick with it has the developers roll out new content within the next year.

For all the people who are complaining about PvP: clearly none of you enjoy the thrill of a fair and balanced open-world PvP system that's already set it stone. Is this system supposed to reward you with points and gear? NO. It's PURPOSELY set it stone to be an outlaw situation in which you risk your life going out to try and kill people for as long as you can survive. There are duels which are carefree situations to test your skill one vs. one against any class to see how you can do. There are Guild vs. Guild battles in which you fight hundreds of other players for 24 hours (or until a guild surrenders) and see who can rack up the most points. And the developers have already promised numerous things in the future like possible arena fighting and your precious battlegrounds that are on their way.

People say this game is a "grind" fest. But like I said before, "What do you want?" Until you can offer a perfect, and more fun solution to leveling, then don't speak. Because how else do you want to progress you character? Just start there? Heaven forbid you actually go out and kill some things to test your skill, or geez, please don't go raid the numerous dungeons in the game for loot and levels because d*mn that's just way too much work for you guys. And "clearly that's already been done." So please, explain to me how you would like to level your character better, and maybe the developers can impliment some stuff like that. But don't waste all of our time facerolling your keyboard.

And some people say all their is to do at end-game is PvP? Not true. Yes you can still open-world PvP for fun, structured PvP for rewards and gear, but you can also raid a lot of the end-game dungeons for valuable gear, you can find open-world BAMs for rewards, you can also still partake in Guild vs. Guild PvP to prove your the best. You can do things to level up your guild and get better rewards. And how about something that's never seen in MMO's today, THERE'S AND END-GAME POLITICS SYSTEM. In which a guild master can campaign around the world to prove himself and be voted BY THE COMMUNITY to actually be a leading officer in different cities. Tell me another game that gives you some of the freedom's like these, or has a lot of these end-game features right from launch.

Again, I ask you people, what the hell do you want out of an MMO from launch? Because quite frankly TERA is 95% fully polished, loaded with tons of features and a lot of brand new, innovative features, already with a game plan to add a ton of stuff over the next year. Yet all people do is complain.

So you, as the community is what's killing MMORPG's this day, not the games themselves.

What's missing are reasons to play together with others before you reach an endgame that is all about player cooperation. You can solo your way up to max level within two weeks and its rare that you have to team with others on the way and as a result you don't get to know anyone.

Games needs to be better about promoting teamwork before endgame and gamers need to focus on getting to know others and not just questgrind up to max level. If you have to continue pugging during endgame its very likely you will quit at the end of the month and look for the next big release.

The game dones, to do dugeon or BAM effectivly you have to team up with people. But it doesn't force you to team up if you wish to progress solo. Many game also fail becaue it force peopel to team up, so people can't play the game unless they have large chunk of time due to the requiremnt of grouping. Tera allow player to solo or team as they wish to progross. end game wise you have to team if you wish to do the dungeons. To solo farm BAM is slow and takes lot of skill so having group make it faster and easier but you can solo it but takes longer.

And speically if your on PvP server not teaming up means you miss out on GvG and no protection from pkers.

While i agree this entire thing could have been summed up by "Todays games offer no reason to play with others effectively" the truth of the matter is the WOW generation (stereotyping here) was raised with the idea that finding and playing with others just slows down progression and because of that mindset bitch when anything requires more than 1 person.

Which, IMO, is why pvp is so popular, go in kill some ppl and get out. No real need to strategize or even talk to eachother. And games like (old) EQ and Vanguard are ostrisized by the community at large, partially because these types are the more vocal minority.

OP you don't continue to play a game in the hopes they add content/features or systems the game should have.(Hi SWTOR) You continue to play a game cause its fun and those pieces, while maybe not perfect are there and just need improvement.
