My review of TERA

VoiceReviewsVoiceReviews Member Posts: 5

This is a little late and should have been released sooner, but classes and all put a bit of a hinderence on the review process.

However, the review is complete.

I give it a personal score of 7/10

And a technical score of 70/100

It was a pretty good game, but outside the combat, I thought it was a bit lacking.

If you want the full review and why I chose those scores, you can read it in it's entirity here:

Good review and I agree in most areas.

UI - I think you should consider what you are used to versus how well it works.  It has a fully movable and scalable UI from the start.  Getting used to hitting alt to get the edit mode is different but it works very well.

Level design - The questing is linear.  It gives you direction.  It is also not the only way to level.  Dungeons (instance and open world), BAM's, token grinding, gathering, are all ways to get exp.  These are limited under level 20, but that is only the very beginning.

Story and Plot - Really interesting story.  Are you reading/experiencing it?  Dialogue and scripts are not well done but the overall story is quite awesome.  There are even short stories on kindle that give more life to TERA.  The story quest at lvl 30-33 is great!  I think you're missing out....

Also what about areas of potential for end game?  Like the political system, PvP (including Guild vs Guild, Server v Server), Nexus (rifts), etc.

There is a lot of focus on the early game and leveling, but this is an MMO.  It is meant to keep your attention for months and years.

The game been ou t in Korean for about 1 year and was launched unfinished so basically got we 1 year worth of Beta off Ktera. Please change it if you can becuase that is VERY misleading to assume the game been out for more than a year.

If a game is released in Korea, you can't say it's a year worth of beta. Beta is the testing phase before the game is released. Might be unfinished, but there are still features in the game that won't be there at launch. Does that mean untill everything they said will be in the game, it's all just one big beta?

well obt capped at 32 lol so no one but those who played kter can tell you. or people like me who follow Tera for a while and have quiet a few guildies who plays ktera ( i tried but Ktera hates my laptop overheats and shuts off in 3 hrs even though NA Tera runs for 15hrs stright -.-)

So end game to start off we have 5 man dungeons along with hard mode for most end game hard mode dungeons. Hard more are extremly hard that even peopel who constantly run them wipe

Political system is to be seen, what it is is some area will require you gain popular vote, other area is gained through battle grounds. And there are also 3 i can't spell it but basically vanarch is the ruler of a provience and the other is ruler of an entire contient. the west contient is broken in to 2 parts.

PvP- ok I'll say this now i LOVE pvp in this game. By far this combat works so well with pvp its not even funny. Ok one issue with pvp is lvl difference is huge, if your 2 lvl apart might as well be 10 lvl, and thats is an issue they need to address, however lvling is super fast so cap with in 2-4 weeks and end game that issue disappears. (the reason for this is they scale it for mobs so fighting higher lvl mobs was more challenging but some how got scale in to pvp as well) I'll talk about each aspect of pvps

Duels- pretty much you offer to duel someone and you have 6 mins to put that person at 1hp. If 6 minate is up well its a draw. Pretty stright foward but with the combat system its so good. When you pvp the game changes completely. And I find all the classes really balanced so far as a lancer I have manage to kill every class and be killed by ever class depending on the enemy skill lvl (lot of been killed coz we got lot of good pvp in our guild but its good pratice because when I fight random people its like a joke compare to my guild)

Death Match-Most amazing system I have ever seen. What is it is like a portable battleground. You can make a deathmatch ANYWHERE, and peopel can join. You can make anything form 1v1 up to 10v10 (doesn't even have to be even sided) and added to that you can bet money on yoru team to win. Once you start death match there is a 5s count down than it starts, the people at put in to party depending on th list (so first 5 in 1 party second 5 in other party) and once you hit 1hp your out of the match and goes on till one side losses. Its very fun and lets guild pratice group pvp with each other w/o having to leave the guild.

OWPVP-Only on pvp servers. Pretty much you have a skill call declarion of outlaw that basically let you flag yourself. Once you use it you can attack anyone but party and guild mates. Anyone beside party and guild mates can attack you as well. There are safe zone in towns and quest hubs.

GvG-As of now only PvP server. Basically a guild declare war on other guild. The war last up to 24hrs long. You win by hitting 2k points (thats 2k kills because 1 kill = 1 point and guild leader = 10 points) or whoever has highest at end of 24hr wins. VERY fun if your in a good guild fighting other good guild. Massive pvp battles. They are talking about adding it in to PvE server, where ig uess both guild have to agree for war to happen.

Server Vs Server- Suppose to be in the next patch but not much info has been give out. We know its coming but don't know when or what exactly it is in so i can't comment much.

Nexus-Pretty much random invasion of higher lvl areas. You get auto party when you go near it and require many people do to. Again this has not been tested in NA/EU because it is for end game characters.

I said it was like if we got a  year worth of beta. Not saying it is Beta but for NA/EU KTera launch incomplete missing lot of content and really not as polished as it is now. So we got lucky and got a much more complete product than they did at launch. But the main point is Tera has only been out for 1 year or so not several years.

Respectable review. But honestly why don't you think that the game will be successful?

I think it's going to have an awesome start and then slowly decline. But I don't think it will ever NOT make profit. It's going to take a bit to get the veteran cookies baked. But once it does. I think Tera will find it's place here in the NA. This game has the potential for a niche profitable crowd.

To add, the updates this game will get could be anything due to the engine it's on. So I also have the feeling big updates will entice a lot of mmo players.

    Monster Hunter since '04!
    Currently playing: MHW & MHGU

Oooo a monster hunter vertan here =D Sadly i couldn't get in to monster hunter due to the sharp learning curve so i just kinda give up. However i did pick up god eater burst because its learning curve was better .I probablay do lot better on Monster hunter now than before but never picked it up again XD

And yes it will have its niche audience just like monster hunter (hey it was enough to keep the psp alive lol) and i have high hopes for the BHS and EME. By far they have been the  most responsive to player, actively making changes based on player wants. Like removal of the -1 on enchanting, remove of pet shops (its iffy on this one), and adding that new prolog in. I know some people say its bad but seriously they added it in after CBT started and people starting saying lvl 1-20 was too boring. Thats pretty epic for them to dare to even attempt it in middle of CBT before OBT. I'm pretty sure almost no other company would be willing to do that.
