I played GW heavily for four years and worked for a fansite during that time, so it should be no surprise I've been keeping a close eye on this one ever since it was announced. I played the demo at eurogamer which definitely left me wanting more and I love that whole experience of jumping in to a new world to explore with thousands of other people that betas like this and launch day bring, so yeah I'm quite excited *grins manically and checks the timer again*.
Probably when EQ2 was coming out. I was so hyped for that game.
2 months later, I was playing WoW.

2 months later, EVERYONE in my guild "Covenant of Shadows" abandoned me to play WoW
I've HATED WoW ever since...
Aww.
You know what's strange, is later on I went back to EQ2 and loved it. I just remember feeling more hyped for that game than any other game before or after that.
It was a different time then. I'd say that EVE and WoW were the two MMORPGs that I've played the most. And I wasn't hyped at all for either of them.

Let go your hate. Hate leads to the dark side!
Seriously, WoW cost you your guild? It cost me my employment! Got pissed and later went to work for them, so full circle. Now I work for someone else and alle ist gut!.
'Sandbox MMO' is a PTSD trigger word for anyone who has the experience to know that anonymous players invariably use a 'sandbox' in the same manner a housecat does.

No game is more fun than the one you can't play, and no game is more boring than one which you've become familiar.

Last one was SWTOR. Before that I was hyped for Skyrim. AND, before that I was hyped for Dead Space 2. But my hype meter for this game is off the charts. All my buddies will be playing together again for it.
First TOR beta weekend... still there but bored now... too bad about Ilium.

A few hours ago when I noticed there was a new brand of beer at my local grocery store I haven't tasted yet! Saving it for when I'm able to log in.
...but on a more serious note: LotRO, AoC, WAR, AION, FFXIV, RIFT, SWTOR. Say what you will but I enjoy getting ready for big launches. This even when I know beforehand it's going to be a short romance (like with SWTOR as the last example - I don't even like the movies can you imagine).
I don't like to over-analyze games beforehand but do enjoy whatever little new a new game brings even if for a short while.
But I can't deny that my expectations are uncharacteristically high with GW2...
Last time for me was TOR - which was great fun at first and only after 4-6 weeks did the shine wear off and the boredom set in.
I really hope GW2 keeps me hooked for a LOT longer, because I am super pumped for GW2.
Feel the same about TOR. I wasnt hyped but as a star wars fan couldnt wait to play. The beginning of my Jedi Knight was awesome. But like you, after 30 or so days the game failed to keep my interest. Thats when I started to explore other MMOs.
Hoping GW2 can keep my interest longer than 30 days. Cant wait to find out.
Same here and it was also my first MMO. I wasn't all that thrilled since I was only playing it because my best buddy dropped hours into it. After I figured out what the game was about, I couldn't wait to get home and play it some more.
Aside from that I have never followed a game pre launch like I have for GW2 and I didn't care for the first all that much so I am not a carry over from the original.

That sentence made me realize something...
I'm surprised nobody answered this thread with "Skyrim, but then I took an arrow in my knee"...

No one said it because it isn't funny. This is a black or white issue. There is no in between opinion on it.
That is not funny.

Ditto, minus TOR's shininess lasting that long.
BOYCOTTING EA / ORIGIN going forward.
